[Verizon] [ROM][4.0.4] AOKP ICS B40/M6/Mods (7/8)

You know what just realized? I may have to keep the nav bar and use LMT. I love navigating through the OS with LMT but wants me some nav bar widget. Oh, technology!

I'm 99% sure in order for nav bar widgets to work you'll need to clean flash BTW...I am a clean flasher by nature, but figured I would try a dirty flash to test if it'd work on a dirty flash. At least for me, no workie :) So if you want nav widgets, I'd suggest a clean flash!

Any dirty flashers have luck getting nav widgets working?

Actually, I just did a clean flash and the nav widget still doesn't work... hrm

What's a dirty flasher vs a clean flasher?
Lol

I've only flashed one ROM, how do I flash clean? That's the proper way correct?

dirty flash:
1. format/delete cache
2. wipe dalvik cache
3. flash new ROM on top if existing ROM
4. flash gapps

clean flash:
1. factory reset/wipe data
2. flash new ROM
3. flash gapps

Note that with a dirty flash, you don't have to reinstall your apps, restore settings, etc. But it can come at a price (force closes, general weirdness, etc).

Generally what I do is this each time:

1. backup apps with TiBu (I bought pro)
2. clean old sms with sms cleaner (> 14 days => delete)
3. backup sms with sms backup/restore
4. backup nova settings
5. reboot into recovery
6. factory reset/wipe data
7. flash AOKP
8. flash gapps
9. flash inverted MMS zip
10. reboot
11. choose YES to restore phone
12. immediately after I land @ the launcher, open play store and cancel the updates
13. manually install TiBu, restore all user apps (NO system apps)
14. go through and set my ROM control and system settings up again

I've gotten so fast with it, I don't even really consider a dirty flash. In this case I was curious if nav widgets would work w/a dirty flash or not. The GREAT thing about AOKP (vs. say CM) is that 99% of their customized settings are in the ROM control area. Versus with CM, I have to hunt down all the settings through various levels of settings' depth, etc which is tedious and annoying.

Is there really any point to using Set CPU anymore since aokp weeks voltages?

Personal preference really. Use what you'd like, just not both together. I bought setcpu 2 years ago and still use it. Not to tweak, but to look at stats if I feel like I'm having battery/cpu/heat issues.

is it me or is the oem kernel sucking the life outta the battery...

Does 38 come with Faux's 17m kernel? 37 and 36 did. If so, it is an excellent kernel for many. Most don't give it a chance. I'd give it 2 days before coming to any conclusions. Also, possibly, your phone might just prefer another kernel. In that case you're covered as there are many to choose from. Ain't it great! =)

kernel version = faux 17. Ill give it another day...

The only issue I've found so far is that lockscreen images pixelate
You mean lockscreen targets? The white ones?

It is when you wipe cache and dalvik cache as well as system data. System data is under mounts/storage and dalvik in advanced.

Then,

Flash ROM, GApps and anything else.

Good luck sir!

Not a correction just a clarification :D "Format system" is what El Jefe should look for when dirty flashing and it is under "mounts and storage"

9. What's inverted mms?

And is the official build 38 out?

I'm downloading now. Build 38 is up on the AOKP website.

Ok, what the heck is swagger mode? All I can find on xda is it gives your phone swagger lol. Is this just a useless toggle thrown in to make you laugh, or does it do something?

Just there to make you chuckle

Certain Widgets result in FCs and others seem to work no problem. Dirty flashed from b37.
Yeah I've seen even clean flashers having issues with some widgets in the nav bar. Someone talked about creating a list of known working widgets in the navbar, although I don't find it dificult to just try them and if they work, they work :o

9. What's inverted mms?

It's a "black where it was white and white where it was black" inversion of your SMS/MMS app. So the background color of the screen when you go into your stock texting app is black with lighter colored (white) text bubbles or text.

Okay, so how do I do #12? I have yet to find a way to open the Play store and cancel updates/restores...

If you don't want to do #12 then just don't do #11. You are checking restore phone from google in #11, then undoing it by stopping the restore in #12. Just do neither and get the same result.
