[Verizon] [ROM][4.0.4] AOKP ICS B40/M6/Mods (7/8)

Sweet thanks j! What is biggest difference you see, just over all UI interaction?

It isn't just the margarine that oozes from melting butter. Every transition flows as I dreamed it would when I got the Nexus. Not that it wasn't already the best Android phone ever, but it is a step up. Once in a while I would see lag and say to myself, I wish it didn't lag. Now I am not seeing that. IPhanboys can eat their hearts out. Best features since cupcake and now UI that really screams! And we have a 720p screen...so yeah, been winning since for awhile now. Seriously, not even an iPhone 5 can beat the Nexus!

Lmao!

Went on vacation for a week and came back to see the update was pushed to some folks. I am on B37 currently. Does this build contain all aspects of the OTA that was just pushed?

Thanks!

Thanks! B37 is working good so far except for the GPS taking a little too long to lock on. Hope this gets fixed soon but is not a big enough problem for me to swap yet.

Yeah B37 has been so good to me too so I've stuck with it. Haven't found anything in B38 that's led me to flash it. B39 should be linaro based and more polished so waiting for that. My GPS locks on instantly how long is it taking yours?

What's the difference between regular build 38 and linaro build 38?

Linaro is "a not-for-profit engineering organization with over 120 engineers working on consolidating and optimizing open source software for the ARM architecture, including the GCC toolchain, the Linux kernel, ARM power management, graphics and multimedia interfaces." aka making our phones and the software that runs them faster/more efficient.

Check out the site here

From what I understand, yes. But so does B37 (which I'm also on atm).

Just moved on Friday so been super busy and swamped. Looks like I too will be waiting for b39 to drop. At the moment I am on stock roooted! :p:o:D:rolleyes:

Also, I've been using leankernel. Should I continue to do so, or what kernel comes with this?

It comes with LeanKernel 3.9.0 stable. You can flash an exp if you choose.

Profit either way.

Ahh moving, what a pain! :p I'll be doing it soon too....argh

iirc lean 3.9.0 comes with this b38 linaro version (I only assume because of the "imo" nomenclature at the end of the dnld build). I take it since imo "Switched to Linaro 12.05 gcc 4.7 with additional compiler optimizations (for now)" (his quote) it goes better with a linaro build? I'm just guessing here. Although many are using Franco kernel with linaro b38 with no issues.

I've read (from Franco) that it makes no difference how the kernel is compiled and that linaro is more OS optimize specific rather than kernel. All that is above my head I'm just posting what I've read so far today. I bet we'll know a lot more as this week progresses and other ROM builders opt for a linaro based version.

Does the linaro stuff affect battery life (either for the good or for the bad)? I have no issues with the performance of my phone, so I'm not sure I want tweaks to speed it up, as I don't need them. Especially if it comes at the cost of worse battery life. :)

Can't tell yet. Had it for less than 24hrs. I give a build and kernel at least three days or so before making assessments. That said, it IS faster!

So downloading this from goo manager:
Goo.im Downloads - Downloading aokp_toro_build-38-linaro-gcc47-O2-imo.zip

Just wipe data, wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache, wipe everything/system - like flashing any other ROM, and flash zip in recovery?

Are you already on B38? I saw on RootzWiki that at least a few users have dirty flashed (cache and dalvik cache only) Linaro B38 over B38 with no problems. Remeber though, a clean flash never hurts, and the more you do it, the more you get used to restoring your user data and the less of a hassle it becomes.

Other than the wiping issue, yes, just flash the zip in CWM like you would a normal ROM.

I haven't found anything about people flashing a different kernel over the Linaro build. My suggeestion is try to try the kernel that comes with it for a few days, then if you still want LeanKernel, NANDroid and flash it over Linaro, then report back so we know :)

jmartin,

Is this a build outside of the AOKP builds? The reason I ask is do we need to do the Google Wallet thing, to keep secure element at bay, in case it's viewed as a different ROM.

Thanks!!!!

Truly there is only one way to find that out....right? :)
