[Verizon] [ROM][4.0.4] AOKP ICS B40/M6/Mods (7/8)

Ok need a rom to flash. Are these linaro builds worth it? Should I try something new here? :o

I'd say, after reading all the user reviews since it landed, that they have noticeable improvements in real world use speed. I haven't tried it yet. I know a more polished version of a leonardo build will be released by Roman if he decides to stick with it and sees the improvements himself. He wants AOKP to be just as fast as we do. Something to consider is the GPS being wonky though. No foul if you just want to play though. Make a backup and give'er a go! :smokingsomb:

Thanks man. If GPS is wonky I will pass for now.

Have you tried MIUI by chance?

I love MIUI and yes I've tried several builds, but I haven't tried the last 2 builds. They now have much more customizing available especially with the new toolbox (somewhat like rom control in aokp but not as extensive yet). It's cool. People either love it or hate it, no in-betweeners on MIUI.

The launcher and transitions are not as buttery as AOKP or other .4 vanilla based ROMs. That is the one big thing that has held a lot of people back imo. It's still very good and most unique.

So quick question for the techies that follow more of the instant online updates that I can....Has anyone mentioned the IPv6 connectivity and AOKP in the same breath yet? I am hoping that Roman will be the first developer, (and that our GN can handle it), but who knows.....

I have not seen anything on the topic yet. Since this is above my head, could you, would you explain to me what you'd gain with this newer protocol with AOKP? Learn me please :)

I am going to quote a response and then say my own piece:

1. Larger Address Space: Address used in IPv6 is 128 bits long while the address filed of IPv4 is only 32 bits in length. IPv6 offers very large, that is to say has 296 address space as compared to IPv4.
2. Provision for extension: IPv6 has been designed in a way that a protocol can be extended easily to meet the requirements of emerging technologies or new applications.
3. Resource Allocation support in IPv6: IPv6 provides a mechanism called Flow Label for resource allocation. Flow label enables source to send request for the special handling of a packet. This mechanism is really helpful in real-time audio and video transmission.
4. Security Features: To ensure confidentiality and packet's integrity encryption and authentication options are included in IPv6.

Personally, as a Systems Manager, this will affect the way that traffic is secured both coming and going from any of our personal devices, plus give us the ability to extend the services available because of the increased connectivity. Instead of limiting the speed of the WiFi, based on what your router can handle, how about a wide open connection?? Plus, the security features in IPv6 are tremendously more powerful (included security in IPv6, not an addon resource-hog like in IPv4). Also, the extended ability with Flow Controls of preferred applications, devices - Such as having a blue ray player, TV, audio receiver, 3 computers, a media server, a storage server, a web server, 4 smart phones, 2 laptops, and a tablet all connected to one router.....and limited by the routers capable speed VS all of those devices connected directly to the "internet" speeds - Simply because the provider is supplying each of us with an IPv6 address and more than a "gigabit" internet connection. Kinda makes you think that the new routers and modems might be able to be much faster...Think about what it might mean to have devices such as Google Glasses being on an instant connect to that kind of speed!!

Advantages: Basically, 32bit (add on) security IPv4 VS 128bit (included) security IPv6 and Flow Control for applications and devices.

It is interesting to note that 4G cell service is based on IPv6 protocol, as is advanced cable/internet service.

Yeah that sounds awesome and thanks for sharing!

So, this would be implemented into the ROM itself I take it. Since it is newer/better/more secure etc..., there must be a reason why it hasn't been implemented yet I'm thinking. Like would it mess with the Android eco-system as a whole and make it less compatible than it presently is?

Are you a member at rootzwiki or do you follow Roman on twitter? I'd love to see this question posed at someone knowledgeable like a developer! Or maybe someone here knows....I'm thinking possibly member scaryalien?

Thanks again for taking the time to explain to a layman like moi :)

Yep! I've been going on a theme rampage lately...have 18 (no comments please :D ). If anyone would like an opinion or review of any theme in particular before buying it, let me know, chances are I have it :)

lol :car:

That is why I like MIUI. If you like to theme, then MIUI is the bomb as everything is on the fly and the theme-ing community for it is tremendous, not to mention it exists here AND yonder.

I can never read the theme titles though! :D

Has anyone figured out a way to back up custom brightness settings? Since I have TiBu and AOKP backup, I'm much more inclined to wipe each build. But custom brightness takes the most time to set up, and AOKP backup doesn't back it up. Anyone?

Yes and will do that when I get home....and no problem. I appreciate you asking!!! I just posted a thread on the VZW Root section specific to this phone here on phandroid...but up to the guides/mods to move if they want to.

Edit: and about the android eco.....its a device capability, both from a router AND the phone/computer/device that has to handle it.

Hey JB this seems like a question for you, but anyone else who might know, please chime in. Is there an easy way to change the colors of stock icons to a specific color? For example every so often you see ICS blue styled icons...is there an app or utility that will take images and color them toward a specific color?

Hey Patriot, where did you get the miui icons from? Is it part of the theme?

No sir. In the Play Store, search for NEW MIUI V4 Theme by TWIPI PRODUCTION.

So I am not quite following. I thought you used the Dream Theme. So are you using the theme you just linked to? Or did you somehow get the icons from that theme, but are using the Dream Theme?

The dream theme is the theme Chooser theme. I use Nova Launcher, in which you can apply Go Launcher or ADW themes. The MIUI V4 theme is a go launcher theme, so I use the icons from that theme but the UI is of the dream theme. Make sense?

Regarding IPv6, it looks like the phone already supports it, on 4G at least. Go to Settings->About Phone->Status and scroll down to IP Address. On 4G I've got two, an IPv4 and IPv6 address. The IPv4 is definitely a private network (Class A private networks have te format 10.XXX.XXX.XXX), but I'm not sure about the IPv6 address. I haven't worried too much about it yet. If anyone wants more info on that though I can find out more tomorrow.

Nova Launcher is supposed to have this feature included in its newest update, although I haven't looked into it or tried because I like stock so much :D
