I was on XenonHD (October 2012 version) and Franco's kernel and always got around 90% deep sleep. Read all the good reviews in here about the provided kernel and wanted to give it a try. I have reset all my timers in CPUSpy and going to see how things go today before I make the switch to another kernel.
 
Wow....just spent a good amount of time reading up on all I've been missing out on. I flashed 3.2 back in December and it was working all so well I didn't come back to check for updates. Now I'm so far behind...but I might as well wait until 4.5 comes out.

I'm using CWM currently and don't care for it one way or another. Is TWRP really that much better? I like the ability of it to install multiple zips. If I download it, do I delete CWM?

Chief, would you mind posting your Google Doc for flashing again? I should have just opened the link when I ran across it, but now I have no idea where to find it.

Looking forward to getting 4.5. I just wanted to thank all the people that make this ROM so damn nice!
 
Thanks Sneakking. Just saw that photosphere isn't an option in 4.4. I'm hoping it will come back in 4.5 as I really like that feature.
 
Ah, read the release page too quickly and missed the fine print. Looking forward to catching up to the latest version soon!
 
TWRP really is that much better. But then, we all have our preferences and likes: do you prefer sausage or pepperoni?

I personally like - besides the ability to stack zips - that you can name your backups right in TWRP. Last time I used CWM, I had to use ROM Manager to name them. It has a file manager. It mounts USB to the PC. It has everything you want & need in a recovery and somethings that can be downright dangerous (like wipe internal memory - NO NO NO!). Yes, it will replace CWM, as your device can only have one recovery console at a time.

Easiest way to flash it is through GooManager :)
 
Just tried out TWRP and I'm really digging the UI quite a bit more! Just made a backup of everything...why not flash 4.4, right? I can always flash the latest version when that comes out. I know what my phone's gonna be doing while I'm working this morning...

Since I'm no loner using CWM...am I okay to delete the clockworldmod folder containing those backups? They take up so much storage space.
 
You can either delete the CWM folder or move it to your PC for archive... then delete it. I have backups going all the way back to JBSourcery 1.0 in my backups archive :eek:

Yeah I know... I need to clean that out a bit :p

You have more patience than I do, my friend. That folder takes FOREVER to transfer to my PC haha. Also, where are the TWRP backups located on my SD card? Sorry for so many questions. New version, new recovery software...it all opens a new bag of worms for me.

I am deciding to update now since my battery life has just taken a massive hit. Every couple of months, it does this and I can't quite figure it out. My SD card and media show up as the biggest culprits. I think it's Spotify because everytime I uninstall it, things go back to normal.
 
Your backups are buried in a sub-sub-folder. They're in TWRP --> Backup --> a really long number --> Your backups.

I suspect the really long number is different for each device, though I'm not sure why :)
 
Alrighty, everything's backed up and downloaded. Read your awesome guide a couple times. Got a little confused about what happens when going from a 4.1 to a 4.2 ROM. It seems like I lose a lot of the system settings, app settings, call logs, and messages. Am I not able to use an app like SMS Backup & Restore to restore my SMS? If not, it's not the end of the world. Do I get to keep my media, or is that stuff also erased?
 
been on the 4.4.5 experimental for a few days now. no bugs yet good stuff. snappier than 4.4.

I do have a question i enabled yahoo weather on the chronos clock setting but weather doesn't show up on the main lockscreen. is there something i'm missing? no big deal either way :)
 
The main lockscreen doesnt have the chronos widget by default... add the chronos to another screen and you should see weather....

Make sure your data is in Data/Media/0 folder... if it is in data/media/0/0 then you will need to move that data to data.media/o

all of your data is there.. but maybe not in the right location.

Which recovery and version are you on?
 
Mhtrang, don't worry about losing anything in internal memory like user pics, vids, music & movies. You can always restore user APP data from TiBU or SMS Backup, just not system data.

There is a great subroutine called Superwipe. I highly recommend it. That will prevent any confusion between formatting the /data partition (you need to do that) and wiping internal memory (which would be a catastrophic loss of data, not to mention the ROM you're about to flash!). If you can't find it out there in Google land, let me know and I'll give you a link to my Dropbox.

Another issue I have found with this 0 directory stuff is now when I connect my phone to my computer I cannot see any or access any of my data like TWRP backups or documents...etc. they are located in directories that my computer cannot see or access. Is there some way to force it to see those directories like the data/media/0?

On another note, I solved my battery drain issue with the default sourcery kernel not going into deep sleep. I finally just had to flash Franco's kernel and now I am getting back into deep sleep more, but I have still noticed a quicker battery drain on 4.4 (4.2.1) than when I was on 4.1.2 roms. May just be me.

When I make backups Titianum and TWRP or CWMR auto stores those backups in directories that the computer cannot see. So, I've still got to get that worked out...:D Last time I worked on that I wiped the sdcard remember :eek:
 
your computer will see what is in sdcard.... whatever is on sdcard is what you can manipulate in a windows explorer browser

Nope, it really doesn't. When using Windows Explorer I can see a listing of directories on my Nexus but they are not the directories with the data stored in them. i.e.

Galaxy Nexus/Internal Storage/TitianumBackup is empty

.../data only lists /com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup, which is empty

.../TWRP only has .twrps and .version nothing else.

Galaxy Nexus/Internal Storage/0 only lists two directories in it /TWRP and Android. MY TWRP backups are located in that directory.

I recently switched to Clockworkmod and made backups which I can see on the phone with Root Explorer but not in Windows.

Galaxy Nexus/Internal Storage/clockworkmod is empty.

At the point I am at now, is there a simple way to wipe the sdcard without wiping the internal memory and then install JB Sourcery 4.4 and it will rebuild the file structure on the sdcard? Cause mine is screwed. :)
 
I know I probably missed it (I'm so far behind in this thread :( ) but are the regular GAPPS ok to use with the new 4.5?

Check around before you try this as I have NEVER tried this process myself...

Copy everything from data/media to dropbox...... make sure every file you want is there...... then check again.... once your sure

delete data/media and then reboot.. the file should rebuild with nothing in it but empty directories..... Copy all of your files from dropbox into data/media/o folder
