Verizon update to fix 2.1 bugs soon!

Currently people will feel like they are saving money until they start using more data with multitasking and realize the need a bigger data plan. Then they will go over that limit and will get hit with overages until att releases a bigger data plan, after people are in an uproar, with a higher cap that costs more that the unlimited plan was. So in the end they are making more money and you are getting less.

Hopefully when verizon fallows suit and caps their plans, they will still offer an unlimited option, but it will probably be more expensive than the price is now. Thats how I see verizon saying they have a better smartphone plan than att. I mean 2mb for 15 bucks? I have already blown past that just steaming pandora for a few hours driving to work.

200mb you mean? And i know. Verizon already has done somewhat of teiring, if you get a "multimedia phone" which is total BS in my opinion, you HAVE to pay an extra 10 bucks for 25mbs a month. Theres no way around it. What am i gonna do with 25mb? Look at a few pictures? Verizon wont implement it until theyre sure Att didnt screw up.

I use around 7gb a month, i call that heavy use... With att's new plan id be paying what, around $200 for my habit?

First, Nintendo is really lame and about 3 years behind in that they don't support WPA. Second, I put about 3 minutes worth of effort into making this work... For what the kids are doing, they really don't need internet access on the Wii. It may be something simple that you are able to resolve.

Yeah, well, sort of. On my DSi, I can access internet through my WPA network, BUT, I can't get access to the WFC. I haven't tried on the Wii...

I kinda want the black Wii though. It would match my 360 Elite and TV better. Lol.

Back on subject: yeah, the mandatory charge is ridiculous. My sister is gonna have to pay that no matter what phone she gets. I don't really think it's their [Verizon's] best move. It's just their way of trying to avoid upset customers because of accidental data charges on their accounts, but I don't think it's really worth it. In accidental usage on my old phone, I had what, 2 bucks worth? No where near 10 dollars of data.

And I hope to God that Verizon keeps their unlimited plan. I don't think I would be able to afford ANY smartphone if they didn't.

I have a black wii, its kinda a weird black compared to my 360 elite... Its lighter somehow...

And when i had my env touch, the annoying lady at verizon said that what classified them as multimedia phones, wasnt actually that they had multimedia features but that they could recieve OTA software updates and that the $10 charge was intended to, not only piss off the customer, but to cover the charge when those were released. Im not quite sure why they couldntve just made the data used during said updates complementary, but verizon is insane sometimes i guess...

I never got one OTA update in the 6 months I have my EV3 "multimedia" phone. Lucky me, I got it the month before they started making those plans mandatory =]

And a lighter black? Weird...

my brother has a smartphone with a big company. somehow, the company turned off everyones data plan. they give everyone smartphones. they're using verizon. so how do they get away with that? so maybe thats what vzw is talking about. businesses not getting away with that anymore and offering tiered plans. i hope. still dont see how they're getting away with that now. unless its grandfathered or something. they have treo's

How old is the company/how long has your brother had his phone? I'm pretty sure contracts start over when you upgrade your phone, and I'm almost positive they've had mandatory data plans for smartphones for a while. If this is the case though, where businesses are turning off the data plan from their phones, I can see why Verizon would want to do this.

so this topic got derailed pretty damn quick.

anyone else hear about the patch that's supposedly coming out to fix these problems? i haven't heard a thing, but i'm getting the god damn silent bug more frequently and it's starting to REALLY piss me off.

The company has been around forever. Insurance. They have had their treos for almost 2 years now. They were getting new ones every six months. Economy, you know? But they only recently removed their data

I'm right there with you. It's about once a day at this point. Between this and the damn random restarts, I can't take much more of this.

Bottom line, if I can't use my phone as a phone, Android can F off. I'd rather have an Iphone or something that actually lets me talk to people which is saying a lot because I generally dislike Apple.

I was under the impression that it isn't an Android wide issue, it is only found on phones manufactured by HTC. Unless something new has cropped up, I don't think there have been any reports of this on the Moto Droid or other non-HTC Android based phones.

Some news about the patch would be nice, assuming that it is real.

The guy seemed pretty confident that it would be soon. I shouldve asked if i couldve taken a picture of his tech bulletin, but posting on here was an afterthought. He said that the issue was purely with the ear speaker or whatever its called, and that one temporary fix would to be to use speakerphone at a very low volume, or use a headset. Thats what ive been doing, and it works for me.

Im clueless as to how a software update could fix a hardware (Or what seems to be) issue.l

If it is a problem with the earpiece, then why can't the other party hear you? The dreaded silent bug is silent on both ends.

The same guy that first saw a cow and thought to himself "Hey, lets squeeze those pink dangly things and drink whatever comes out!"

I know it's way off topic. What about the first person to crack open an oyster and say "hmmm that looks like food."

Not for me. Sometimes I can hear them but they can't hear me, sometimes its the other way around and other times its both.
I'm guessing that its a problem with the microphone too, but I was just repeating what the verizon rep told me.

I can't wait for the update. And honestly, if it doesn't come out within the next two weeks I'm going to buy a droid off craigslist. As much as I love my eris not being able to use it as a phone without bluetooth or a headset is pretty ridiculous.

I was at VZW yesterday and talked to one of the tech reps about the issues with the eris on 2.1. He mentioned that SEVERAL people come in every day with the same issues. He told me that Verizon will be sending out 2 updates to fix "most" of the issues. Not sure if he was just blowing wind because he doesn't know what he was talking about. I just hope that he is right and an update comes sometime in the near future. Not having more than 2 bars of service is really pissing me off.

He probably just wanted you to leave so he could go on break and watch World Cup. :D

Verizon sent me a refurbished Eris, because I was having trouble with my original Eris. Now the refurb one has a completely different issue than my 1st one. Oy :)

It's not making me feel better about my phone... Verizon is just going to keep giving me Eris' with problems. Will I ever be able to make a phone call again? This one has the Silent Bug. I was so annoyed when I tried to call someone 3 times in a row with no luck hearing them or them hearing me.

In my case it was that I couldn't hear them, but they could hear "This @#$%in phone...piece of *@$&!..." Got my refurbished, and so far so good.

I think the signal issue is a hardware problem. On my env touch I used to get 3-4 bars in the same places I get 1-2 with my eris. I think it just had to do with how much is crammed in there blocking the antenna.

I see people mention how many (or how few) bars their phones indicate but no one mentions poor call quality or dropped calls...

I thought that Verizon said the bars were not a true indicator of signal strength on 2.1, and for some reason they don't show the actual strength.

I'll have to find the place where I read that.

I've never had poor call quality, and only one dropped call, and when that call was dropped, I had 0-1 bars. I was in a basement, so I doubt it was the phone. I average 2-3 bars and get a full 4 if I drive into a more populated area. So it's not really an issue how many bars/signal strength I have.

There are plenty who heard stuff like that about the 2.1 update, months before it finally arrived.

Not knowing what the actual issue is, we know that hardly anybody had the issue with 1.5. It could be something like a poorly written driver, it could be that there is some timing issues with audio that is causing an infinite loop on some phones - these are things that software can be used to kludge around. The fact that audio works at first, always, and then disappears somewhat randomly suggests to me that it's possible that software can fix it, if somebody can isolate all of the instances of the audio failing.

It was probably on these forums, actually.

The scale that the bars use can be, uhhh, "manipulated". People always mention two phones sitting next to one another having different number of bars. What matters is signal strength, not 1 bar or 3 bars or 4 bars.
