Help Version Update?

no is not just you traajik
the camera lacks the damn zoom funtion ...I mean yesterday Virgin Mobile Release a new android phone. 5MP and a VGA front facing camera the damn thing looks like a verizon phone. Check it out:

Yep and the next phone released for metro will look like something that came out 2 years ago.

They know what people want, but they are just catering to the masses. I suppose if we all wait around it will happen eventually, but the Triumph looks nice.... I like the HDMI out too.

STEP UP YOUR GAME METRO!!!

All Credit for the information i am about to provide goes to Leakforyou an insider we have over on howardforums

I don't know why i didn't put this together sooner LOL but for all the people that are waiting for your update continue to wait patiently.

If you received the update and want to revert your phone back to pre update settings listen to this before you do.

back in the beginning of may we started to receive information from our insiders on howardforums that our android phones will receive a update that will address certain issues with our phones and along with this update we will receive a update that will pertain to our cdma/lte Radio's

Now some of us have received this update and in this update (and this is where i cant imagine why i didnt think of this) our baseband versions were updated for cdma/lte this was our radio update.

now this is where you ask me "where are you going with this"

heres where im headed with this

The rumor is MetroPcs is about to launch 3g evdo Cdma service via upgrading its 1x network. As a matter of fact there 1x network is suppose to be upgraded to full 3g evdo

and it was reported a while back that our phones would need a radio baseband upgrade and look what we recieved in this update a baseband update.

time frame has not been established for the actual launch of evdo but it is said to be before the end of summer 2011

i actually took this information with a grain of salt when i first read it until i read the thread again today on HF and it hit me like a ton of bricks that we just received our radio updates for the evdo launch

P.S.

Some people in 415 and 510 got the update. Its not by area code or area for that matter.

Im in the 510 and yes i got the update my friend is in the 408 and no he didnt get his update so i agree 100%

Hehe, no they are using the upgrade to EVDO as a stopgap to help overloaded towers. It will likely switch from 4g to evdo is low coverage areas.

Wait so is the 3g news bad? Is our LTE gonna be gone?

Like ciper said no its not bad news actually it is good news all metro 3g enabled phones will be able to run on 3g with a fall back to 1x and all metro 4g phones will run on 4g with a fall back to 3g and eventually if needed 1x

So in theory Metro should have just progressed from 1x or 2.5G to 3G then to LTE.

I mean didn't they have enough vision to see that going from 4G to 1x is kind of ridiculous.

I mean they had 3G in Detroit and Dallas to begin with... I dunno... just seems dumb when they could've just built out their 3G network and progressed to LTE and still had 3G to fall back on.

I agree 100% it was stupid of them to drop 3g in three markets just to bring it back on a nationwide scale months later lol but there also doing this to help with the backhaul of the network. Metro is learning real quick that they cant just pile everyone on 4g and say let it ride they dont have enough spectrum in the current holdings that they hold to so...

well even if this insider information is accurate time will only tell

Well if it came from " leakforyou " over at howard forums... it's pretty resonable.

When this comes out I am switching from metro (since it came to Miami in 2002 been a customer) to Virgin Mobile/Sprint. Went from Sprint to Metro now I will go back. This Indulge, being rooted and tether'd and it's such is a joke most of the time. The 4G speed is not much faster than the 3G here in Miami it seems. I sit next to people @ work who got iPhone 4 and they get better service and the web pages load almost as fast as mine on 4G.
And always loosing 4G even after the OTA going to 1X the 1D when in a marginal service area or just no service at all.
I am deciding between AT&T 4G (and lookup FAN for AT&T/Verizon/Sprint = DISCOUNT, even for being a Costco member you get 15% off bill) or switching to Virgin/Sprint. My wife's Optimus M speed is a joke. The optimus V would be 10x's faster it would seem.
So good to see a real looking phone is coming to prepaid and if it comes with the unlimited like metro, I'll probably switch.
So sick of not getting any signal inside buildings (stores) at the mall or where ever, that I just want a phone that works and works all the time. Reason why I switched from Winblow$ back to mac. Even being a MCSE/reseller for years I just want something that works, works all the time and boots up quick (my 2010 MBP boots/online <20 sec with 8GB ram/500GB Maxtor Hybrid hd).

8 gigs of ram? Overkill much? Especially in a mac, where an extra gig of ram can run you 200$. So my question stands, what's the best way to get the update? I asked a store employee andhe said that metro just hasn't trained them for that yet, I kinda don't want to call corporate after hearing to your guys' stories, also that 3g news sounds nice, will my sisters' huawei/optimus m be able to receive 3g?

Yes your sisters Huawei and optimus will be able to receive 3g just remember the optimus is rev-O evdo compatiable (alittle slower then Rev-A) im not sure what the ascend is and for all that will ask the indulge is Rev-A evdo compatiable (alittle faster then Rev-O)

Very nice, would they need some form of update? And how soon can we expect the 3g service?

Will the full 3G use more battery?

Thats the thing leakforyou isint sure the exact release schedule they have all he knows is that it should be before the end of summer and when it does go live it will be on there cdma spectrum that is currently 1x now

supposedly their upgrading their current 1x network to handle EVDO so we will have 3g capabilitys

Will the full 3G use more battery?

actually it should not

if you notice the updates some of us have received have been for our LTE and CDMA and i believe these are the base-band radio updates along with the address to the other issues leakforyou was referring to

so when the service goes live it should consume the same amount as 1x does right now since it will be in the same Mhz range and on the same service line

it will not have to search as hard to find a 3g signal as current 4g does and it will not have to extend its range hence where you get your battery consumption problems

ALSO

i just want to add that the main reason for this is best explained by ciper

Its not about speed. Its about improving the network. EVDO is more efficient than 1x especially when you have good coverage. It is packet based just like LTE so everything will be IP based instead. 1x is crap in that it needs to make a constant connection between the two units (circuit switched). If I understand it correctly it will allow each cell site to have purely IP based backhaul leveraging some local internet provider instead of needing something similar to a T1 line. Its not exactly compatible with 1x so they will have to move channels around (if they haven't already). Lastly it the power usage for the same amount of traffic is lower so that may add up to an electricity savings (small)

In other words dont assume that you will get super duper speeds once this upgrade is done. Its not for your benefit directly.

BTW my "3G" Samsung Infuse averages 7.5mbps download so Metro's 4g is really slow as hell. Metro uses only 5mhz channels versus Verizon's 10mhz so we will never "win" the game of speed.

now we will have full 3g evdo but how fast will it move only time can tell

Well, I just spoke to a good friend of mine who is an area manager for a MetroPCS franchise here. He told me that all the scheduled / automatic updates were supposed to be completed by June 1. He said that if you did not get it yet, that you probably got missed somehow and won't be getting it. He said to go to a corporate Metro store and they can push it to your phone.

From what I can tell it looks like they missed at least half of us. Thats a big chunk to miss.

If we go to a corp store to ask for the update to be pushed to our phones do we need to unroot first? Do you think the people on the 611 can do it too?
