Help Version Update?

Well, I just spoke to a good friend of mine who is an area manager for a MetroPCS franchise here. He told me that all the scheduled / automatic updates were supposed to be completed by June 1. He said that if you did not get it yet, that you probably got missed somehow and won't be getting it. He said to go to a corporate Metro store and they can push it to your phone.

I spoke to someone in their device support department who knew about the update and said that they were aware that a number of owners have not received the update yet and told me that the system is nowhere near done sending out the update to phones. He also mentioned that Indulges in the the Dallas area were currently being sent the bulk of them as of last week, and that they don't even have an expected timeframe for completion...could take several more months for the update to compete across the entire network according to him.

never bring a rooted phone to a store to hand over to them.

Okay if you go to a corp store you will be told they can not push the update to your phone. I went today, waste off time and gas. If you call 611 they will tell you it does not exsist.

MONTHS??? Seriously the whole update proccess should have taken less than a week with that update file being only 1.2 MB in size. This is becoming more rediculous by the day.

It's a huge CLUSTER FU**!!!! It's pretty sad when you sit back and think about it.

Aah, that's interesting. I wonder if my friend was referring to our area only. We are in the Tampa area. I have not received the update. Anyone else in Tampa not get it yet either?

I am in Los Angeles, CA with a (626) area code and no update yet either.

Does anyone have the update.zip so we can manually apply the update ourselves?

Really? take what you have found?

Lets not start a war, but Ill say this:

Yes you discovered the Hidden Menu, but after a week or so of searching up and down the internet,

NO ONE

knew how to force an update,

I discovered it today at work and passed the message on, you can check the TimeStamp, my post came before yours, on any forum.

SO, just because you made a big discovery ( And I mean it, you found about the Menu) BUT Didnt have the inclination or whatever to go a bit deeper and find out that you can actually force the update,

Doesnt mean I Stole what you found, I built upon it.

and Credit has been given.

No dude I not only had people doing this before but even had them put my account information into the DM screen.

I told every differnt person about the START DM method and the reason it wasnt posted in big bold letters previously was IT ONLY WORKS IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS ALREADY BEEN FLAGGED TO RECEIVE THE UPDATE.

I only posted the screenshots so that people weren't misled by your post

I like the screenshots, dont get me wrong, but just go a few (6) pages back on this thread, and half the posts are about how people are still waiting for the update.

If you knew about this, don't you think you should have at least posted it for EVERYONE to know and follow as a guide? Would've saved me a week of tinkering with my phone, and I bet many others too.

Because it doesnt work! We already tested the living hell out of it. Your account has to have the update applied to it already in which case this will start the process,,, which would have started soon either way.

I made a thread with screen shots with the real info so others werent misled

well between me and 3 of the 4 people that tried it, It worked, so yeah instead of waiting for the update, the people who's accounts are marked but still dont have the update installed ( Like me and those 3 people ) can get it sooner by just following the guide, its not that hard, even if it doesnt fix the problem for everyone.

Well, roddiy, if what cipher is saying is true and forcing the update on an unflagged account will abort the update process mid-way and prevent all future official update attempts to the phone, that is a pretty good reason not to have that information out there willy nilly.
I mean, I understand that it may work for you and all, but if it is even remotely possible that it might be a problem for some others, I think you should let folks know that they have to proceed with caution.
Not to knock on your parade, you (re)found it all by yourself, I won't doubt that, we're all curious human beings here :), but I think we should defer to cipher, k0nane, and the rest of the gang who tried this before to make sure it will be harmless.

So, btw, if someone has tried the forced update and it didn't work, PLEASE post it so we can resolve this issue, and prevent it from happening to others. If you have tried and it works, then also post it here, or in whichever of the other two threads about this, and maybe we will be able to develop some kind of statistic from there...

I want to know if the update failed for anyone who wasn't ever rooted. That would narrow the search down quite a bit

I tried but nothing happened, no message popped up, nothing... So does this mean I will not be able to receive the update (ever) or did the process have to start then fail?

I'm thinking it would have to start then fail. You will notice the failure because it will tell you that it failed. (I'm not 100% sure on this, but cipher can fill you in).
Also, remember he said that you must not touch the phone for a short while, so maybe you got a little too impatient. :)
Although I don't understand why doing something on your phone makes the update process not start if you are forcing it through... But that's a whole 'nother discussion.

If you do try this again, change the values as per his post (divide everything by 100) and let the phone sit somewhere for a few minutes (about 5 maybe?) before declaring failure... That, of course, is if you're fine with the possibility of a failed upgrade....

I purchased my Indulge on 1 June. Rooted and wifi tethering enabled. Pushed the update last night and it worked perfectly. I don't see any improvement in download speed but are 4g is dismal in Jacksonville, fl.

1st time I waited for about 3mins and it wouldve been lnger if I didnt received an email lol!! So I tried again and waited for 30mins thinking maybe the 30secs he posted was a mistake and he meant mins and not sec, but still nothing. Now that I know that it could fail and I'll never be able to receive the update... I will NOT be trying again lmmfao!!! As for not being able to touch the phone I agree with you and dnt unstand that part, being that some ppl said it just takes control of your phone, oh well... I'll wait :D

Hey shatterproof ( and any others who have tried it with no go...)

What is your Phone Status for CDMA, LTE etc,,I read a post of ciper's mentioning what it would be at if the update failed..I trieed it didn't work as well..I'm at CDMA EA29 and LTE EA17

I bet you have Basebade CDMA EE07, LTE ED15 but build number EA29

And that is exactly why I dont suggest everyone to do this unless they have reinstalled all of the bloatware (essentially making the phone back to stock)"

Thanks!!

Got the update (OTA) this AM. 786 area code. Miami,FL.

Same here...woke up this morning and was FINALLY greeted by the update message on my phone. Only took them a friggin MONTH after the initial updates went out to get it to us. Haven't noticed much of a difference yet
