Help Version Update?

Force the update if you really want it...
Or use Silvist's exodus rom.
That's if you're comfortable with ODIN of course. Otherwise, your best bet is forcing the update through the hidden menus. Just remember the possibility of soft failures, though.

what's wrong with it

The Craft was the first 4G phone Metro came out with. But it is not Android, it is a "feature phone." Huge difference. The Indulge is a real smartphone, with a good processor, running Android OS. The two phones are not even in the same league, hence the price difference. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that they both happen to connect to Metro's 4G data network.

i know this has nothing to do with this thread but i would really appreciate it if i could get some opinions on the Lg optimus m... i have done my research on it and it looks like theres really nothing wrong with it... can someone help... Thank You :)

Optimus M is better than Craft, but still not as good as Indulge.

Indulge has 1ghz processor, compared to 600mhz for Optimus. For a 600mhz processor though, it's decently snappy. Certainly not as snappy as the Indulge though (and getting even snappier with new custom ROMs coming out!).

I believe they both have the same version of Android.

The biggest difference, however, is that the Indulge is a 4G phone, Optimus is not. If you are around wifi a lot (at work and at home) then maybe this is not a problem for you. But remember, since Metro basically skipped over 2G and 3G and went straight to 4G, when you don't have the capability of 4G (as with the Optimus), you fall back to 1X-RTT, which is basically like dialup speeds (<100kbps). But hey, McDonalds (and other wifi hotspots) are everywhere nowadays! :D You could also leech off of a rooted Indulge user and enjoy 4G speeds! :D

Finally, don't forget that the Indulge is getting a lot of development attention. I think you can get CyanogenMod for the Optimus, but I'm not an expert in that area (as I have an Indulge).

I was actually going to get the Optimus, until I heard about the Indulge coming out in (at the time) a few more months. I waited, spent the extra money, and never looked back. I have been extremely happy with the Indulge ever since.

Personally, battery is not an issue for me as most of my mobile use is in my work truck (I have plenty of power options: laptop, power inverter w/USB outlet, etc.). But YMMV.

Also, I understand that LTE is a relatively new technology, and that they haven't worked all the bugs out yet. Some of the main bugs are power consumption and heat. As I understand it, all LTE phones currently on the market (and to a lesser extent, all smartphones in general) use up the juice pretty fast. So the way I see it, you have to take the good with the bad; if you want the high speed of LTE, you have to deal with the quirks of high power consumption and heat. For me (and in my usage scenario), I am willing to make that trade-off.

If you don't have access to a wall outlet, the new extended batteries that have just come out are getting very favorable early reports (10 hours / all day use and still 30% battery left!). Check that thread for more info.

Rooting means to have complete control over your phone. You can remove preinstalled bloatware. You can install lots of cool programs that require root, wifi tether is probably the coolest. And lots of other things as well... spend some time around here reading up, there is lots of info here.

So i just bought the Lg optimus M guys... i think i made the right choice cuz i was looking for a cheap decent phone... anybody have any useful and helpful tips?

Hey anyone have the old radio baseband firmware? I cant deal with this update. I got this update months ago and ever since then, I never get any internet service when I leave the 4G covereage area. Atleast before the update If I left the 4G area I would still get 1X, now I get nothing. Im in NYC This is totally unacceptable. I need internet access if Im out of the 4G area even if it is just 1X.

The 1X icon never even shows up anymore since the update.

Anyone have the old firmware?

That's not a firmware problem. Using the new radio firmware, you should still be able to get a 1x connection. try factory resetting your phone and if that does not work, try switching the phone to cdma only mode and see if the icon shows up.
If you still got nothing, return it. Get another one.

I know how you feel warduke. Today for example i went from 4G to 1X and then lost connection for a few minutes. Metro needs to fix their antenna service asap

It is definately a firmware issue with the modem. I did the factory restore and also went back to the origian ROM using ODIN and it still didnt do anything different.

And you cant get any data connection if you switch to CDMA only mode since that only allows phone calls and no 1x or 4g. I want the old firmware for the modems. The old firmware worked fine for me.

Where can I find a list of ROMS that work with the indulge?

1X is over CDMA. If you switch to CDMA only mode, you will have 1x data still. 4g is over LTE, or global mode. 1x is over cdma. Do the switch first, and see what happens. If you can make a phone call, in theory, you can get 1x data speeds.

Edit: there are only two custom roms available for the indulge. They can both be found in the all things root sub forum.
They are Exodus and Basix.

I tried by gong into **583385## - Enable/Disable LTE or CDMA only Modes restarting phone and still made no difference.

Does anyone else have this problem with the indulge after the update? I have not even seen the 1X icon ever again after the update

Warduke, there's only one other person I know of with this problem. He's handle on this forum is metroinphilly and he doesn't have a solution neither at the moment. I'm not sure what's going on with your phones, so I'm afraid I cannot help any further, aside from suggesting trying out the roms and seeing where that leads you.
sorry mate.

Yeah, no problem, I just don't like leaving stuff unresolved.
Hey, this might be the longest shot ever, but why not. Have you tried updating the prl by calling *228?
