Root [Virgin Mobile] [New Update] Patience Please

I really just want the notifications to stop, not to update or anything. Is there a way to disable them through google framework, or samsung dm or samsung push services?

Updates come through SprintDM.apk. Don't remove it or you'll lose your ability to update profile and PRL, and possibly lose data altogether.

From my point of view you can either follow the guide on the OP. "Which will update your phone to the latest release" or update it the normal way by accepting the update on the STOCK ROM, AND STOCK KERNEL and re rooting it again. Sorry I cant help you no more. Maybe someone with more experience can jump in and help you.

This wont work, because there was an update before mg5 and I rooted it before that so I cant get it.

Iam lost soory I thought virgin mobile only had one upate to mg5. Like I said before maybe someone with more experience can help you.

No, there was an update before this. I know how to apply mg5. I rooted my girlfriend's phone right out of the box, but it keeps prompting her for an update that isn't the mg5 update. And I cant complete the mg5 update, because there is no way to complete this one. And she's completely against flashing a stock rom. Besides I tried instalking my mg5 backup on her phone and it still prompted her ti update.

He can't. Backups don't update basebands anyways. and this update is mc1 to mg5. He's on the one before mc1. Ma8 I think. Only thing you can do is unzip the update in your phone (in cache)and edit the updater script to remove all prop checks then rezip and try flashing in recovery.

Hey I have an idea, if you do still have the official update in your phone (again in cache) download no props.zip, extract them both, then switch out the updater script in your update with the one from no props.zip, or at least compare the two to see what jerryscript changed to get an idea of how to edit it. I believe he also changed it to run init.d. just a thought. Then rezip it and try flashing in twrp. Might work, just make a backup first.

Okay, ma8 sounds familiar. So the update from ma8 to mc1 would still be downloaded just not installed, right? Would it be terribly difficult to edit the first update so I can use twrp? Or should I put it up and let someone more experienced do it?

The updater scripts are normally fairly easy to learn to edit. I learned in about 3-4 hours how to build one that had if/then statements for my ROM's installer.

Thats amazing, i'll be patient, I really appreciate it !

Ok, so I looked at the updater-script last night and it's really not that much different from the MG5 one, so I removed the same lines that Jerry removed and modified a couple of files so it should work fine without overwriting TWRP with the stock recovery.

Here is the 'no-props' MA8 to MC1 update.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can also try my new custom MA8 to MG5 Update. Essentially just patches the files to MC1 then MG5 right away, and then flashes the MG5 binaries.

If you prefer to use just the MC1 no-props, make sure you flash Jerry's no-props MG5 update from the beginning of the thread afterward.
