Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

Stock browser.

Also pages seem to load faster and downloading Antutu from market went @ 2Mbps instead of my usual 300k on this wifi network, though that may be a coincidence.

I too noticed increased network speeds at times. Just checked stock browser and you are right about no jittering. That was one of the reasons I went to dolphin and chrome. Might go back :D

Thanks for testing everyone, and for the nice comments!

I've added three new governors by cribbing in rbheromax's commits. Using No-frills CPU Control from the Play Store, you now have SmartassV2, LagFree, and Badass governors, as well as the standard Powersave, Performance, OnDemand, Interactive, Conservative, and Userspace.

So now there are options for gamers who want performance, battery hawks who want longer life, and those who just want their phones to work better. Test them each out for an hour or so, see how they affect the performance of your phone and your battery life. I'll be posting the flashable zip as soon as I'm done testing, and then add it to the up-coming release of Victorious.

BTW- I'm still using Powersave, it seems to scale up fast enough to be lag free without the increased speeds LagFree uses. ;)

Also, my battery life seems better. From 90% to 78% over 1h 45m w/ no power saver, 100% screen on time. Regular browsing, loading a new page every 15-30 seconds, or faster.

Edit: holy crap! You can see just how much difference it made if you check Gallery. Wow!

Did u use the VaeVictus commits or the older ones (android_kernel_blah_blah)?

I used the overclock branch of VaeVictus. Still don't have my max freq set properly, topping out at 1.5, gotta check out your commits a bit closer. Gotta go to work now, will get back to it tonite. Thanks for posting your work on Github, it's been a big help!

Okay something strange, I flashed this kernel and now Wi-Fi is working again. Hmmm...

What is the difference with this one?

This one has added governors, Badass, SmartassV2, and Lagfree. You can use No-frills CPU Control from the market to change your clock speed and governors.

Note- I still use Powersave on a daily basis, but it's nice to have the others when needed. ;)

Oh yeah no problem, I specifically put it up to help. I did get it to go to 2.1 GHz but it would randomly reboot here and there, and I didn't feel like messing with voltages again.

Testing your commits to acpuclock now, seems to be working great!

Huge Thanks To rbheromax for helping me fix the frequency tables for overclocking!

Several users are testing now, will post the overclocked kernel tonight if all seems good! ;)

Yeah, later today, Im going to push a commit with a kernel module for higher tmp OC (2.5GHz) that goes away after reboot :D. It'd be a great addition to Victorius as a normal OC can be in kernel and after a simple command you can reach waaaaay higher speeds
Also, badass gov isn't complete, I didn't add 2phase and 3phase powersaving and GPU control(I think GPU control is already in the current commit)

Just a quick question. I now have 2 galleries and 2 camera apps. Once you release a fully custom built ROM, will that remove the extra gallery and camera? The new camera hangs and almost seems to freeze up the phone. Just curious :)

Is the next kernel release going to have voltage controls?
I can help test voltage and freqs if needed. For some reason I have always loved doing this stuff, but I also know that voltages are largely per device as each chip is not created perfectly equal.

I know it can be a pain to mess with voltages, which is why I used to use this app called QuickClock Advanced for my droid 2. It hasn't been updated in years now though, but the concept is great, and it always worked great on the droid x/2 phones. Basically it tested max frequencies and min voltages until the phone freezes/reboots, then lets you set votages and freq based on the most stable values. Thus automating the process of manually testing the stuff over and over. I really wish someone could make a follow up app to that, because I used to get amazing battery life on an overclocked and undervolted droid 2.

Jerry made new camera and gallery a user app so if you don't want it you can just just remove it from application manager. It's under downloaded and is called gallery

Sorry about the delays in releasing Victorious-0.2.1, I've been busy with the kernel obviously. I hope to release it before noon Vegas time today.

FYI- I was going to release it today, then Google had to go and announce Chromecast, those devious little bastards, I love them! Get ready for cheap TV out capability on Victorious! I hope to add the functionality to the launcher, and if possible to the system as a whole. Can't wait to get it and start hacking, over at xda they are talking about attempting to port linux to it, and perhaps a lite android version. ;)

Purchase on Play Store

Note- You may be able to find it cheaper via promotions, I just pulled the trigger on the Play Store and it cost me just under $42 with shipping.

....are you saying hdmi is confirmed working?:eating:

Chiral, it was the samsung website that had the information FAQ saying speficially that the virgin mobile samsung galaxy victory 4gLTE supports hdmi out (with the adapter that they samsung sells; I'm sure third party ones would work too). I'm not sure why the link I posted wasn't working, because it was and still is working for me.

But as my dad used to say, it's not on hand till its in hand... in other words, I will believe it when I see it. Though I'm pretty sure samsung knows best since they designed the phone... it's just odd that it says nothing about TV out in the manual.

This chromecast thing looks even better though, and sounds like any phone could do it, even if it doesnt have HDMI out! Sweet!
