Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

The kernel isn't actually overclocking our processor. It's just allowing the processor to run at it's full potential instead of being capped at 1.2ghz.

If someone makes a kernel capable of overclocking, then we could see how far it could be pushed.

I just wanted to add, FWIW, that once I flashed this ROM, using TWRP, it said that I lost root privileges and ask if I wanted to have it fixed, I said no and had to re-root once the phone restarted (this part was not mentioned in the install instructions). It re-rooted just fine. Not sure if I missed a step or did something I shouldn't have, but just wanted to mention it.

I found out that I lost root (for lack of a better term) because I wanted to adjust the governor and run it OC'd at 1.350Ghz to see how things would work, but I could not change it from 1.5Ghz.

I am just complaining :D just reporting.

Why would you not want to fix root?!? ;)

Hey Jerryscript did you ever get a chance to look into the video player app not working in victorious? Not a complaint at all, your work is greatly appreciated, just wondering. I figured you're busy with the next version of victorious and just thought I'd ask.

If I don't know I always say no

Actually, I'm re-installing Ubuntu right now, this time 64-bit like I should have before. <derp>

Okay, I located the calendar widget "com.sec.widgetapp.SPlannerAppWidget.apk" but can't seem to get it working as a system app (or at all for that matter). I set the permissions and everything. Gtalk is working just fine though.

I fixed my mms issue by flashing the stock vmobile rom (I'm pretty sure my issue was that my phone didn't come with the right rom, as I never had a vmobile splash screen when I got it). Decided to fresh format and repartition my SDcard while I activated, then updated everything.

Rooted then installed Victorious, setup the script for link2sd as mentioned above... got it working but it's time for bed. I'm getting a bit tired and forgot to note the permissions on the script files, can someone check for me (if it matters- perfectionist-), I think the trick to making sure it works with least effort is to setup the script, install link2sd and then reboot without running link2sd. I accidently ran it, and it seems to have broken the external2internal part... even tho I went back and tried to replace the scripts again. Looks like I may be starting this part over tomorrow...lol

The calendar widget I think isn't matching up with the current calendar that is being used by victorious. Thats my theory since the naming convention is different than the default app. Correct me if I'm worng.

Good news is, I finally got Ubuntu 64-bit running (PM me if you have the boot3black-screen bug).

Better news is it allowed me to build my first kernel for the VirginMobile Victory!

Amazing news is, I flashed it, and it booted!!

Jaw dropping news, everything seems to work, phone, wifi, sms/mms, camera, gallery, seems like everything!!!

I built this with the Linaro toolchain, so it has the potential to be smoother right out of the box, and it does seem to give the gui a bit of pep! Next up, time to add some special sauce! ;)

WARNING -- I HAVE TESTED THIS ON MY PHONE, AND IT APPEARS TO BE WORKING GREAT. NEED TESTERS WHO KNOW HOW TO FLASH ANOTHER KERNEL IF THEY HAVE PROBLEMS. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE!!!

Be sure to backup first!

Hey Jerry, excited for the next update with the storage options included...

I cant say thank you enough for all the work you are doing and wish i knew more and could help do more testing...

is this kernel modded

At this point it's just uncapped, that's the easiest change to make and test when building from Samsung's source. The only other difference is the use of the Linaro toolchain for building, which has a pretty good reputation in the Android world.

Thanks to everyone who has tested so far! I'll put the source up on github today, commits will be the official changelog, and start packing this in Victorious so we can get past the GPL issues with RedSpot! ;)

Do you want my files for the OC? I have it done but I pretty much abandoned my project on the Victory in favor of the Galaxy Stellar (same specs).

The test kernel seems to be stable. What, if anything, did you do to boost the 3G. After flashing, my 3G speeds on the download side doubled.

That actually happened to me nervous even I had the s2. Flashed a kernel abs my speeds About tripled. I always test speeds by downloading Ubuntu cause there are so many upload servers. You can get a steady 20mbps

Only thing I did different was to use the Linaro toolchain to build it. BobZhome used to always talk about the difference a toolchain could make to a kernel build back when we worked together on IHO for the Optimus V, and it looks like he was dead on! ;)

For those wanting to be overclocked all the time instead of just when you need it, you can use No-frills CPU Control from the Play Store and set the governor to performance.

Notes- I would not set it on boot till you've tested the settings. I also would not set different governors multiple times without doing a reboot in between. I personally use Powersave, and it ramps up the CPU fine when I need it while keeping it low and saving battery juice when I don't. ;)
