Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

I think it's just my 4g... for some reason it also wont update PRL or profile unless I switch the phone to CDMA only mode (it used to work before flashing though; but it may just be the service- since I hadn't done it manually in a long while). I just tested over wifi at work and the profile and PRL updated just fine.

My MMS is only working outbound as well, no inbound.. but before it wasn't working at all. I tried to talk to tech support about the lack of mms (about a month back), and they said they would elevate the issue and call me back, but of course I never got a return call.

hi! want to thank jerryscript for all his work, this rom is truly awesome. everything works great for me except that when i try to open a photo from mms in the new gallery app it displays as blank.

thank you
matt

There are bound to be some incompatibilities with the new gallery, it was made for Android 4.3, so to be honest we are lucky it works as well as it does. You can clear it from being the default app to allow you to select the regular gallery when dealing with MMS, you'll find that option under /settings/applications manager/<NAME OF APP>/Launch by default (click Clear Defaults).

I'm thinking it's probably something to do with the upgrade to 4GLTE equipment. I've had times in the past couple of weeks when I was testing a new build of Victorious, thought I had borked the radios, just to find out data was down in my area at that time. I have also gotten 4G connections from time to time during the same time period, and it's known they are doing upgrades to the cell towers all over Vegas. Very frustrating when you are trying to troubleshoot, and you can't rely on the network!

Actually, I've been running into the same issue--mms inbound fails. I'm in an area that only has 3G at the moment.

If you would pull a logcat right after an incoming MMS fails, and put it up on pastebin.com then post the link here, I'll see if I can determine the issue. ;)

Before installing victorious, When I backup with titanium should I backup user apps or user apps + system data? And if I want to go back to stock after this do I just restore from my twrp backup?

Just backup user apps, attempting to restore system apps + data often causes issues.

You are right, restoring your backup is all you have to do to return to how your phone was before flashing Victorious. Be sure you use TWRP to make and restore your backups, CWM for the Victory has issues restoring the data partition.

FYI - The reason I recommend backups with both TitaniumBackup and in recovery (TWRP) is to make it easier on you no matter what the situation. If you accidentally delete your apps (wiping data) in recovery, you can restore them quickly and easily with TitaniumBackup, without restoring your original ROM. If you have an issue arise that makes your phone unusable, or you just don't like Victorious, you can quickly and easily restore your entire phone in recovery (TWRP). ;)

Hey guys over on xda there is a mod that worked on s2 that allowed you to record phone conversations. I really liked it for making plans and for rendering tracking numbers and addresses while driving. Think that mod would work on here?

I'll look into it. That mod was made for the Epic 4G Touch, but the author says it will work on anything ICS (doesn't mention JB, so not sure). It also replaces the stock dialer, which may cause issues with TW. It requires edits to smali files, which can be a hunt for a needle when using a different phone's files, so no promises, but I will look into it.

BTW- In most states, it is illegal to record conversations without the other party's consent. The last thing I want to be compared to is the NSA! ;)

Idk why but I still can't get tethering to work with those settings. It still crashes when I tap on the big wifi symbol to thether

Look in SuperUser and be sure it has been given root permissions. If that checks out, I would uninstall it, go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik, then re-install it. If that doesn't clear it up, then there is some setting that is not right. Here's the file to download for re-installing, I wouldn't restore a backup of it since it appears to be a borked install.
WifiTether_TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012.apk

The video player app isnt working. I used to use it to play video and pic files from my computer in the nearby devices selection in it. And I was wondering how I can get back the samsung task manager. It had a widget that helped me control that pesky play music that always starts itself. Diggin the rom, its lean and mean just like u said. Nice.

Sorry I did mean return to the way my phone was before installing victorious. You are very thorough, and clear.

I read this entire thing about 4 or 5 times before flashing and read some conflicting ideas on going back including a guy that had volume issues after restoring from backup. But I read again, he had other problems. Thanks for very clear and thorough responses. After reading from beginning to end I never second guessed flashing victorious at all.

I believe that's due to my removing the either the MediaUploader. apk or the ShareShotService.apk, needs testing to see if it is one of those or another apk.

Try downloading, putting then in the /system/app folder, and setting permissions to the same as the other apks in there. Let us know if either one fixes it.

Thanks!

would you please post the stock gallery/camera app?

This is my fav update (0.1.4). Everything runs smooth so far. Update 2 was laggy over time. One thing i notice so far, the camera button works and would open google camera, but when i closed it, it would give an error warning "Camera failed" since samsung camera was also open. No biggie, just a little bug. Keep up good work, thanks JerryScript.

I get the same thing. I was trying to figure out how I could fully implement the newer camera. It works flawlessly.

The stock camera and gallery are still included in Victorious-0.1.4. The stock camera has a black lens in the icon, the stock gallery has a yellow icon. The 4.3 versions have a blue lens in the camera icon, and a purplish icon for the gallery.

Shareshotservice.apk wouldn't go there. It said denied.

You have to use a root capable file manager (like Root Explorer from The Play Store), and set the directory to read/write (R/W), there is a toggle near the top of the directory structure. You then have to long press the apk after you have copied it over, and set it's permissions to the same as the other apks in that folder.

Try freezing the stock camera. It's probably conflicting with the 4.3 camera. I wouldn't uninstall it, just freeze it (I use Titanium Backup to freeze defrost).

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Here's how you put an app into /system/app using Root Explorer as the file manager, it should be similar in other root file managers, you just have to figure out which buttons set the folders r/w.

  1. Place the apk on your sdcard
  2. Using a Root file manager, copy it to /system/app (at this point you will have to set the folder to r/w, in Root Explorer you click the r/w at the top
  3. Look at the permissions of the other apps there, they should read rw-r--r-- which means that root can read/write, and users and others can read it only.
  4. Set the apk you copied to the same permissions, in Root Explorer you check the box next to the app, click the menu dots (three dots lower right corner), then choose permissions. You then want the first collumn to have the top two boxes checked, and the next two collumns should have the top boxes only checked.
  5. Reboot your phone and test the app out.
If you have any trouble, post here and we will help.

For those who prefer the terminal, here's how to do it:

  1. Place the apk on your sdcard
  2. Open terminal and type su (remember to press enter after each command)
  3. Type this to make your system r/w: mount -o remount,rw /system /system
  4. Now type this to copy the file: cp /sdcard/NAME_OF_APK_HERE /system/app/NAME_OF_APK_HERE
  5. Then type this to set the permissions: chmod 655 /system/NAME_OF_APK_HERE
  6. Finally, type this to reboot the system: reboot
I personally think the terminal method is faster and easier, but some people just are not comfortable with command line, so choose the method your are comfy with. ;)

Maybe it's purely coincidental and no one wants to talk to you today. See if tomorrow is better for you.

cute comment but not helpful at all. I wouldn't say inbound mms isnt working if I didn't KNOW it wasn't. It's pretty obvious when you see a message from someone that has a download button on it, and it says message failed every time you try to download it. Or when they ask you if you liked the picture you never got.

I've tried having multiple people send me mms, including some that had sent me pictures before. It's just not working now, but outbound IS working, and it wasn't before flashing victorious... I will try to read your instructions for the logcat thing and post it. I have a bit of time today to bugtest this.
