Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

ok quick question i am porting a number in from boost and dude is telling me to update profile or prl and neither is working since i loaded the new rom. do i need to restore back to factory or is there a way to make it work. he said if i update profile the system is set for the new number.

I guess i could make a backup of how it is now then restore backup of stock with root then update profile and prl get new number then flash back to my backup of victorious.

Update: ok that worked back to stock rooted backup i made before victorious. now fixin to go back to my backup of victorious. any word on fixin updating on this rom?

It's a matter of finding the app that handles prl and data profile updates. Quite a bit was removed in Victorious, so we have to figure out what has to be added back.

I'm not sure if Jerry is looking into it or not

ok cool when i went back to stock rooted i updated prl and got 3 bars of 4g here at work when i returned to my backup of victorious from home with a different prl i had no 4g here at work. so i guess prl is pretty important for signal and such. or maybe it was a flooke .

Ok if anyone wants to restore the Self Service Agent so you can update Prl and Data Profile on Victorious Rom it's just a matter of putting these 2 files back into /system/app.

SprintDM.apk - http://db.tt/3F0NTWoN

SprintSyncMLSvc.apk - http://db.tt/XgZJEqtz

Download the files, copy over to /system/app, set permission to match other system apps, reboot and you should be in business.

* You will go back to getting the "Preparing Network" notification whenever you change between 3g and 4g

Data Profile and prl are stored in radio (modem) partition so wiping and flashing another rom shouldn't affect it. I've noticed my 4g has been really weird today so may be network issues

Thanks for testing and finding the appropriate apps kwknott!

I'll add those two apks back into Victorious. One caveat, DO NOT ATTEMPT A FIRMWARE UPDATE! The firmware update requires the stock recovery (a partial assumption, but I would bet my paycheck on it right now). Attempting to update the firmware with CWM or TWRP could brick your phone, but most likely would just fail. We only had one update on the OptimusV, and several people bricked their phones attempting to install it with a non-compatible recovery. I don't want to be party to anyone bricking their phone, so please be careful with firmware updates!

I'm also working on a modem backup tool. Hopefully it will pull the PRLs as well as the modem, giving us an easy way to restore borked modems (no promises, but it looks good so far).

kwknott, you are awesome! Thank you!

I still don't know how to extract apps from ROMs or backups yet. I still have my backup I created right after root and I would get these system apps if I knew how. But until I get to that point you have helped out a lot, kwknott.

I have them backed up with Titanium but for some reason Titanium somehow changes the backed up file.

There is actually a thread in the vm section with exactly that. A recovery that you unzip to your twrp or cwm folder then flash or whatever it's called

does system, or data check boxs restore recovery? no.. its just stock system data VMU

Yeah, great point.. Thinking of the optimus v, I bet it's probably a good idea to avoid the factory reset from within the rom. Let's try to avoid some potential recovery bootloops and borked phones. I remember good ol zv9 with it's phone killing radio update.

That would be nice. I briefly read over that thread for the Sprint tool. I tried running the dd command but got an error so I probably typed it wrong. Didn't get to keep messing with it cause it got late

It's a huge file, 60mb vs 20mb for the Sprint modem on the Victory, which makes me think the VM Victory has multiple modems, with some not activated. Makes sense, I know of many phones that have been able to be flashed to VM's network (Sprint's).

The one thing holding me back from posting it is testing it. I don't have a spare Victory, and I'm not inclined to flash the modem without a fallback plan!

on no frills cpu i am getting max cpu speed at 1026 is there something i need to do so it can see 1.5. the ungoverned kernel is built in to this release right?

nevermind i see that cpu-z reports the speed not allows you to set it. i guess we would have to make a custom file for setcpu to allow us to set clocking at 1.5 but according to cpu-z the phone goes up to 1.5 on its own when the need arises.

You could be right. Almost like it has a multi carrier modem. As another example Look at the power on sounds under /system/media/ui.. There are 4 sets of boot sounds. BST, SPR, VMU & XAS.. I guess Boost, Sprint, Virgin Mobile and some other one. Maybe they give it a universal firmware/modem and depending on which carrier it goes to depends on which options are enabled.

I can see your hesitation to flash it. Nobody wants a $200 paperweight.

The current kernel just uncaps the speed to 1.5ghz. The speed is adjusted as needed. There's no way as of yet to specify min or max speeds or governor.

Need some lab rats!

There are feature lists in the CSC folder which may be able to be expanded, giving our phones more functionality than what we get with the stock feature lists. I'm pretty busy ATM, and am asking for help testing these out. Try changing the feature, then reboot and see if it had any effect. Here's a list of possible features (Note- we do not have an FM radio chip, don't try):

Google is your friend figuring out what to place within the XML tags! ;)
