Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

Got it all installed and working great but how do I install themes? I find them all over Google but how do I know which ones are compatible and then how to install them

First off, you need to select a launcher to use themes. Apex Launcher and Holo Launcher are probably the most popular. Then you find a theme you like and make sure it's compatible with the launcher you use. Many these days support most launchers, where a few years ago the themes supported on launcher.

really good update , runs very well, after installing i noticed the voicmail app was removed and was getting a text , so i went on google and download the voicemail app .apk and works great now thanks

Sadly my reg computer crapped out and all I have right now is an Acer aspire. I don't think it even has the strength to run a kitchen. Lol :(

I followed the instructions for rooting as per this forum-
* downloaded and installed Samsung drivers to laptop
* downloaded and installed Odin to laptop
* downloaded TWRP 2.4.3.0 tar
* downloaded and installed busybox v.1.20.2 - CWM + zip to SD card
* downloaded and installed latest version Koush superuser zip to SD card
Flashed TWRP recovery, installed busybox and superuser, rebooted

So far, so good.

Prepared the SD card for partitioning as per the instructions in this thread. Allotted a 10G 2nd partition in a 32G class 10 card. Installed Link2SD, ran it, let it create mount scripts.

That seemed to work fine too.

Now comes the problem... downloaded and installed Victorious 0.3.1 zip to the SD card; followed the instructions to the letter regarding flashing and rebooting.

But, when the phone powers up, I get a notification that reads: " install superuser - the Su binary is out-of-date". Which then prevents me from running anything that requires superuser permission.

Can I trouble sometime to let me know what I did incorrectly and how to fix? I apologize in advance, I'll require plain English as I'm not particularly fluent in hack-ese ;-)

I installed a few apps from the play store after having flashed the ROM. As seen in the attached screenshot, Link2SD did not create the symlink. I thought it was supposed to do so automatically? Or do I have to do it manually for each app? And is it best practice to create these links for every downloaded app? Thanks again.

I'm having the same issue with trevE tether. May I ask where you were able to download the 4-17-13 apk? I can only find the older 2012 versions. Thanks!

WiFi Tether Google Code site should have all the old versions.

You'll need to link the apps manually at first but there's a setting to auto link newly installed apps. Moving apps to SD can lower the performance of your phone.

Sorry I'm the slow child in the family, :o . At first I panicked thinking the swap didn't work because I was using Link2SD as I had with my previous phone creating symlinks. If I'm understanding this thread correctly, I don't need to do anything as I install apps; the phone already thinks the external is the internal. Now, I just want to be clear... when I download music to the phone, I'm now going to /storage/sdcard0/ and create a Music folder there? Have I got this right yet? Lol. Thank you!

Sdcard0 is internal and extsdcard is external sd. With Victorious it is swapped so phone thinks external sd is sdcard0 and internal is extsdcard. Looks like maybe your music is caching to extsdcard which is the 1.8gb internal. You can check but I'm not sure if play music gives you the option of telling it where to save.

Exactly. However, it will still clear system storage (now extsd) if you create links, because only huge files such as obbs will automatically be installed to the sdcard. Your media should be placed on sdcard0, which is now your sd card. I suggest when you create links, do it all manually just so that you know what you're linking and to stay in control.

The sd swap doesnt affect the apk files. You still need link2sd for that. Apks go on a different partition that isn't affected by the swap. Sd "swap" allows the obb and additional files to go on external sd (now internal) but to get the whole job done, moving the app itself and lib files and things you need link2sd. So basically if you want app files completely on your sdcard, you need both link2sd and sd "swap". :D

Swap is where data is stored when you run out of Ram. Like an old pc that runs out of ram will start writing data to the hard drive to a temporary swap file. Swap is much slower than ram and when you start using a swap partition it will slow a device down.

You may have needed swap on older phones with little memory and older Android but newer devices have more memory and newer versions of Android are very effective at memory management so you will not run out of memory and thus not need a swap partition.

You can create a swap partition but more than likely it will be wasted space on your sdcard as it probably won't be used.

Oy. Totally confused now. Where should the apks be installed specifically? Internal? (/data) SD0? (/storage/sdcard0) Ext SD? (/data/media) SD Card 2nd Part? (/data/sdext 2). Sorry to be such a pain, but the whole point of this mod exercise was to be able to wring more app capability to the phone.

Thank you!

If you follow the instructions on the original post very carefully. Just install apps normally. You don't install them any differently. If you're using link2sd you just link them.
