Root voodoo5 kernels are here

Apps pop out smoother when opening, xScope loading pages faster, Widget Locker sliders smoother. Of course this is just my seat-of-the-pants speed test.

A lot of people seem to think the one labeled 12/03 stable is from jt just clarifying.

when you find a good app / program that can showcase voodoo properly seat of my pants tests can become crap my pants exciting :eek::p

So nandroids are not done via ROM Manager with Voodoo correct? It is in the Red CWM? I have not rebooted into it yet, will it be pretty obvious? "Back up current ROM"? And also restoring them is via CWM not ROM Manager? Also obvious? Do you have to disable Voodoo in the CWM for both backup and restore?

no you can backup and restore voodoo now

personally i never make backups in rom manager but id think you d have to do it in red recovery for it to be correct with voodoo

if you boot into recovery from the power button you will go automatically there

if you boot from rom manager it will go to old cwr....go to advanced....restart recovery...and you ll have red recovery :)

Good tip, thanks. I always feel a little dirty rebooting by holding volume/power. Like I messed something up when it comes to that lol

Apparently *another* set of recovery controls to learn. In Red CWM back button = select, menu button = back. Makes perfect sense :) I wish there was just a "go back" you could select, I was confused for a sec. You can also select with the power button as in normal green CWM recovery. Home also turns screen off as in green CWM.

I swear the 3 different controls is going to screw me one day.
 
Ok did a backup. Questions:

Restore vs Advanced Restore?

What's up with all the stuff in the Voodoo menu? Disable/Enable I get but what about the other things?

Can I easily restore a pre-Voodoo nandroid? Do I just restore it or do I have to disable Voodoo first? Does the nandroid restore my old 11/29 kernel?

What if I'm on non-Voodoo, can I restore my Voodoo b/u and it'll restore the Voodoo kernel and everything?

Great point that some might not know of red and green have different controls and you can get into a mess hit the wrong button :eek:

You dont wanna cross restore but otherwise its all fine. That is, obviously if you are in voodoo red cwm and you made a voodoo back up you can restore a previous voodoo back. You dont wanna try restoring a non voodoo, Im not sure it will even take, however I havent tried it myself and perhaps with that allow conversion setting you could in theory.
If you want to restore a prevoodoo back up I'd disable voodoo first for sure
 
Dammit - I can't rename my new backup from red CWM in ROM Manager...gonna be hard to keep track of which is Voodoo and which isn't. Maybe Root Explorer will rename it...
 
Honestly I never pay attention anymore. I bought the Verizon spare battery/charger, now I just forget about it. No more Juice Defender, no more trying undervolt kernels, no more scrambling to plug in while tethering. It's great :) This thing takes batteries unlike an iPhone and boots fast unlike a Blackberry.

It doesnt bother me to much but with this stupidvoodoo, studoo whatever you wanna call it I dropped 50% in 4 hrs...thats just to damn much for me

Yeah by power button i meant many of us that have themes with built in reboot options if u select recovery it boots right into red

Going to give studoo and 12/03 stable a test drive. Its nice to see something new in Info tab of setcpu for the kernel builder

Any point in using setCPU? I didn't restore it when I did DJ05.

12/03 stable is nice fo sho! Felt a little crippled without it.

You can metamorph Circle D over most themes althought YMMV on what you break on dont break totally depends on the theme.
I continue to have setcpu in play. it also helps me know who's kernel Im on if I ever forget :p
 
Yeah its funny on my other phones i loved the galaxy s theme......now i cant stand it......guess the grass is always greener...,

yeah to me froyo really doesnt mean much....unless you have snapdragon phone its not some massive peformance increase....however if it has updated ril that helps with aosp then im all for it :)
