Let me be the barer of bad news here, you more than likely will not see a 1 click root solution for froyo. This is due to the fact that someone would have to make an application to do all of this for you when you can infact, just do it yourself.

Rooting already installed froyo will be like root when their was root for the ally, manual and with command prompts. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty ladies.

Yes you can get old apps2sd ways to work in 2.2 (if the rom dev chooses to include it.)

I say 2.2's apps2sd is better as it does not require an ext partion. Instead it makes an .android_secure folder on the sdcard. The problem with 2.2's apps2sd is that the dev has to choose if an app can get install on sdcard or not. There is a work around to get all apps installed on sdcard though.
Can you let us know what the work around is? Thanks.

Got my update about an hour ago. Half way through the install it said it lost the internet connection and gave me the option to try again. It then installed fine. But as my Ally was booting up it stayed on the ANDROID screen for such a long time I thought it bricked my phone. But when it finally finished booting it had Froyo. And the first thing I did was check out the move to SD apps. Found a lot of my apps were able to move. Freed up a lot of space for me. Yea I am very happy! :)

i think my phone is f**ked. i got the "problem with communication between cell phone and pc" and i took out my battery it keeps showing the do not unplug screen:(

This is what this phone was meant to be. It' as quick as any custom. It snaps. The updated google apps are nice.

This phone has been reborn! I can only imagine what the ROM chefs will do with this. I'm content with stock for now though.

Why am I always the last one to get an OTA. LOL

just finished updating the wifes stock Ally and putting all her programs she likes back on. so far its very nice.. I like it! think I will do mine tomorrow... its rooted, do I need to put the stock rom back on it first?

Once I got the hint to turn on USB debugging, it went very smoothly, and I now have FroYo -- yay! I loved moving my apps to my card, and another plus -- I can now initiate calls thru my bluetooth by voice alone, without having to touch the phone. Although I don't get the little voice saying, "Please say a command," as it used to on my old LG Dare, as long as I wait for the two beeps from my headset I can just go ahead and say, "call home," or whatever and it works. That alone is worth it for me. Very happy.

i have the update, but lost root. anyone figure out how to root? I can't even get to the bootloader to load amon-ra recovery so i can flash superuser... help?!

You may have to just wait it out until a method to root is revealed. Chances are it will not be as easy as the current 1 click solutions though, at least I don't see something that simple coming out for a lil while. I'm hoping and waiting for a zip to flash a pre rooted ROM since word has it there are devs on it already.

So I can't get the LG Mobile Support Tool to recognize my Ally. I have downloaded the drivers, including the USB Driver that still won't install and I'm just fed up.

Any help?

Jmar

Make sure your USB Debugging is on. I had the same problem yesterday. Go into applications and click development. check the box for usb debugging.
