VZE Froyo 2.2.2 Update Discussion Thread

I recieved a text message on my LG Ally earlier today (from a # 900070002256) saying that my ally will recieve an update soon, but that before i can install the update, i have to install a free app that is in the market), followed by a link.
I don't know why, but it just seems fishy to me. I already have 2.2. What else is there to update? I don't want to click on the link just incase it is viral and it screws up my phone.
FYI, when I got the 2.2 update, I never recieved a message like this.

Anyone else get this message lately? Do I click on the link or not? And most importantly - what is this update?

I downloaded the app, and my phone shut down a couple hours ago... I believe it's now installing the update, because it just has "android" going across the screen. How long is this update going to take?! I don't remember the last update taking this long. None of the buttons work... should I take my battery out and put it back in to restart, or is it normal for it to take this long?

Ok We need Death to step in here. This came out of the blue. I am not doin nothin without some difinitive answers.

If they are going to have to push the update via a app that means no OTA update but one more like with LG Mobile Update. Maybe its to download a entirely new ROM and wipe fastboot? lock the boot loader? I'm thinking all kinds of nasty things...

It's 12.7mb so it's not a full rom. Likely an ota. The following link shows and states you need the app but it shows the regular ota update process. So take it for what its worth. Also note how the page says mandatory system update.

Man LOL.... I feel like were a bunch of dudes hanging around some crazy lookin animal thats not movin and were saying "you poke it with the stick No you poke it with the stick.... i aint gunna poke it with the Stick." LOL

It would be nice to know if it will wipe recovery, if not I would consider it. Would it be safe to think VS704ZVE will probably flash the radio?

This says it is a mandatory system update too. it is the pdf for the upgrade too froyo 2.2.1

I got the text that said to get the app from marketplace, so I did that. Nothing happened at that point, but a little while later it shut off and went to the black "android" start-up screen where the white letters keep highlighting across the screen. It has been like that for 3 hours now.
 
:confused: Man, this IS a lot like standin' around a presumed dead animal waitin' for your buddy to poke it first!!! LMFAO!!
