One question...I'm still confused on this nandroid backup stuff. I only backed up my contacts through Google but didn't back up my phone (although everything is just like it was before I rooted)...I guess it makes no sense to do a back up now?
One more...when Sprint releases 2.1, what do I do to get that now that I've rooted?
Thanks, love this board, you people are awesome!
Anyone having issues with SetCPU? I am not having the SU issues described earlier, but my SetCPU doesn't seem change when I try and make changes as described in the XDA thread. It always stays at 528 and "performance". I try and change my sliders, which do change, and select "on demand", hit refresh, but it says it is still running at 528. Whenever I go back into the program the sliders remain where I set them but the mode always changes back to performance and the top menu states it is at 528. I did un-install, re-install and restart as well.

It acts like there is an "enter" button or something that I have to hit to approve the changes in order to apply them. Did anyone have to do anything with SU permissions, because I was never prompted too.
Yeah, I never had that prompt... either time I installed it. If I didn't get that prompt could that prevent me from changing settings...that would make sense with my inability to do so now. Seems like the issue maybe with my SU Permissions app?
try turning on USB debugging... it's helped a few having SU issues..

Camdz,
SetCPU is just to throttle the CPU downwards to save the battery. It does not speed things up. They are pretty clear about that if you read the XDA developers forum. It has to do with the fact that HTC did not release some closed source cpu throttling software iirc.
As for the speed, it is all relative. You might be just be a faster typist... As a slow typer (I have big hands and rock climbing callouses) on a bare bones widget/ no eyecandy setup, it wasn't that often that I saw a lot of keyboard lag. Now I don't see _any_, but that's just because I'm not capable of typing any faster (I have landscape turned off and usually only type with one finger).
Reinstalling the app did nothing for me either. What I had to do was reinstall Fresh and Gumbo. Once I did that when I opened SetCPU it asked for permission.
To confirm: you just flashed Fresh 1.1 again and then the Gumbo Kernel over it? Did you have to restore a nandroid backup first? Did you have to re-flash the FLASH PLAYER fix again?
Just want to make sure I am doing this correct...have had no problems with Fresh 1.1 prior to this.
I didnt have any problems with Fresh either. Fresh was still great AFTER I did Gumbo. My only problem was that SetCPU wouldn't work. I reinstalled the app twice and when it still wouldnt work I decided to start from scratch.
I left SetCPU alone (I was afraid I'd have to pay for it again, I've never uninstalled/reinstalled paid apps before). I rebooted the phone to get to that menu where I could pick Fresh zip. After that installed I reinstalled the Gumbo app. No new backup, no nothing. I just rebooted the phone. When I opened SetCPU it asked me for permission. In fact, a couple of my apps are now asking me for permissions they never did before.
I made a new nandroid backup after everything was working again

No, this is installing a new kernel, not rooting, you must be rooted first to install a new kernel.
Ok I know theres a thousand posts on how to root, but theres too many and I dont actually know whats the best choice. I heard of fresh pre kitchen butit sounds too good to be true, one click rooting. And I also would like to know the best ROM cause theres like too many to choose from and Im new to all this. I know this is alot but I finally decided to root and reeeeally dont want o mess anything up
Thanks.
Nailed It! Re-flashing Fresh and Gumbo kernel worked. The issue was SU permissions, for some reason when SetCPU was installed it didn't ask for SU permissions. After re-flashing Fresh, I was asked and now it works. Thanks!
