I downloaded rom manager a while ago way before this post. ive never had a problem with it but ive never changed a rom with it either. Is that where you run into problems or is it with the app itself? i just use it when i need to reboot into recovery if i need to.
Hey everyone. I am new to these forums and to Android in general. I had this problem last week. I got rooted, uninstalled some things, then installed some apps (ROM Manager being one of them). Stupid! I should have known there was a problem when my phone wasn't one of the available options. Phone is totally black now. No download mode (so I can't use Odin), No recovery mode. Is there anything I can do, or should I just try to see if Samsung can fix it? The phone is only 2 months old. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
ROM Manager isnt to blame for what could be your own mistakes. I think RM is a great app and it probably didnt brick your phone. You may have by flashing a recovery maybe not meant for you phone.
wasn't aimed at anyone in particularI didn't brick my phone. I posted this as a warning to others because there were a lot of people bricking their phones by trying to install roms and cwm through it.
Didnt mean confrontational, just sick of a good app being blamed for 'user error'.I've edited a couple of posts that could seem unduly confrontational by members. Please think for a minute before hitting the "submit" button, so that your posts appear informational without being at all personal.

99.999% of the time its user error lolYes, while Rom Manager may be a good app for SUPPORTED phones, for the Prevail for the time being it is not. I myself in the begining checked it out and realized that most of the selling points of the app wouldn't work with our phones. Honestly, anytime a phone gets bricked, isn't it for the most part usually "user error" though? Lol
I agree, but it should explain why not to use, just not do not use as it will brick your phone. And that topic title will still be there long after, CWM is aviailable officially. I had this same debate in the Optimus M section and ppl saying RM and my CWM port would brick their phone.I agree it's usually user error and the point in this thread is to avoid that. No offense to anyone but if a user can't tell what not to do and can't read warnings like these them they shouldn't be using apps such as rom manager.
I've never personally used it but I'm sure it is a good program. I'm not blaming it for peoples problems but extreme caution should be used when using an app that doesn't support your device especially one that makes changes at a root/system level.

the thing is RM and CWM work together as a unit. Now CWM can work just fine w/o RM, but RM needs CWM to do most of what it is intended to do. So again its not the apps fault. I got hroark up to speed on how to submit his build of CWM to koush so it can be officially built and merged into RM. SO hopefully once he gets that done koush will get it done in a reasonable time frame. Thanks for the post. I agree that many phones may be saved from this post. I also agree that most of the time it is user error when things go wrong due to lack of information or reading first but, I would also like to state some other bad exp. I've had using rom manager.
i've never bricked my prevail because I read before I act. I know that there isn't Roms for our prevails so I wouldnt try to flash one.
I used Rom Manager for about 4 months. Mostly to reboot phone & into recovery and clean the dalvik, and fix permissions but, in doing that, I have had bad experiances. Twice before I got rid of the app.
The first time I used the fix permissions option(supposedly just like CWM) and when I rebooted it factory reset my phone. Good thing I was turned on to TiBkup in shabby's mod or that would have been rough.
The second time was when I cleaned the dalvik cashe after getting rid of a few apps. again... Factory reset. At that point I realized that RM was just not friendly enough with the prevail...
Oh, just for reference...
Im rooted
Shabby kernel & shabbymod .9
V6supercharged, 3gturbo, & using kickasskernel
I've haven't had a problem with this using CWM since I uninstalled RM

And in most cases CWM has to be officially built to have full RM support. I have seen unofficial builds work fully, but they had to be installed with RM, but I have found most ppl cant follow the instructions on how to install it with RM.
