Root Well, lets get the ball rolling

Salvy did you already flash jcase's rom to the phone? If not could you please do a memory dump?

Otherwise I'll go call VM, play a stupid and tech dumb damsel in distress, get the MSL and try to match it with a hex offset to the memory dump.

Calling to get the MSL to the point where they may suspect, flag us and phone home may seem paranoid but well, at this rate I think it will be a possibility.

Also, never ever ever flash any phone that is non development without unlocking to the com port and making at the VERY least a backup of the data profile and the aaa key with dfx.

If you don't know what that is, look up WakeUpC22 on androidcentral and find my post on optimus V. It has links to asadullahs (SIQ) video on how to make a full data profile and backup on the OV using DFX.

Though it seems like they fixed this issue with a data reset, a previous OV phone died when my usb cord killed itself during flash. (Cord was cheap, SNAPPED, and couldn't take slight bending good usb cords take). Data reset didn't work but luckily i had the aaa key.

Woo, found how to mem dump with QPST 2.7+ and am doing it now, also found a way to possibly find SPC/MSL, but MAYBE not, could be different for everyphone, The best part about it is you need to be in download mode for the dump, not Diag.

didnt work but ill give the dump to see if you can find it.

It was suggested to me in another forum that we go about returning to stock another method. It would require a couple things we don't have though.

1. Root - not sure if jcase would give his method to a person or two for this purpose

2. Recovery - not sure how hard it would be to compile for the elite.

It was suggested we make a nandroid of rooted stock and use that to create an unrooted rom that would be flashable in recovery

Then create a flashable zip of stock recovery

It was an idea thrown at me so I'm just throwing it out here. I know it's a bit of work but seems safer than the current tot file method.

I knew this was possible but I didn't think case wanted to hand root because it could potentially break our phones but I'm not sure and
@hashtag I thought the same thing but I figure don't commit fraud and we are fine

jcase has given me his root, but it was only for the purpose of flashing it via LGNPST. If he give the okay then we could just use that right?

My laptop charger kicked the bucket so until my new one gets here I'm limited on what I can try. Might try to sneak my wife's away from her but she gets a bit mad if I load too much on it.

He doesn't have a root that doesnt require flashing with lgnpst?

I'm sure he does, cause he gave me a .tot file to flash and it had the root in it. And he had to put one there so I would guess he has one that doesn't require root. He just wants us to be able to restore our phones if anything happens, that's why we are trying to figure out how to flash.

I am no way shape or form questioning your authority, but may I ask what you mean by fraud?
When you root/or attempt to root your phone you automatically void your warranty. When you do something to your phone while rooted/or attempting to root that breaks your phone, it's your mistake and you should pay the cost.
Fraud is when you tell the carrier that the phone is messed up, but deliberately leave out the part about you rooting it/ tying to root it (voiding the warranty) and being the cause of it being broke, in order to get a free new phone.

I'm pretty sure this is what olbriar was referring to.
If you still have any questions on this matter and need olbriar to help just PM him. I'm sure he would be more than happy to help. Hopefully I have hit the nail on the head and everybody is pretty clear on the subject.

Thank you for your understanding on this subject.

I believe someone has already touched on this but I think you should abandon the .tot un-root option. I used to do this on my intercept and I ended up changing it from VM to Sprint with no way of going back.

We should get one or two people with jcases root (w/out .tot flashing, if he has one) and instructed them to grab the recovery partition so we can port CWM or something to the device. From here we can create a stock root rom with a system dump. Then create an unroot.zip and a stock-recovery.zip as a way to revert back.

Catch my drift?

Agreed if possible

That sounds like the best idea. So, I'm 16, and it's summertime. I have an insane amount of time on my hands, if somebody could point us in the right direction I would love to get started on that. And I have jcases rooted .tot, could I somehow extract the root and use it if he gave the go-ahead?

this is what I've been saying since the beginning. I'm still working on other root methods also.

If he provided a rooted tot file I we would have to flash it via LGNPST to apply the rooted firmware. I don't think you could pull the root from the tot and apply it a different way.

Got mine today. Activated my phone and got an error 67 and also 123 so had to call em back and they gave me spc to do reset

What program did you use and did you do it in download mode?
