Root What a day, guys, huh?

I think a petition is the only way. But idk how many it might take. We represent a small portion of their consumer base, but I don't think they underestimate how much we effect their sales. I've gotten my wife, everyone of my friends, and a couple of my wife's friends to buy droids. Between the og, dinc, dx, and d2. And I've never even had a d2 lol we are the leading edge of the android push. And I know the fiscal responsibility they would be avoiding by locking down the phones and avoiding replacement costs. But idk if they appreciate the cost to sales if we started suggesting not getting motorola phones. With all the new manufacturers coming to verizon, motorola is going to have a rough go of it getting their market share to remain steady. Yet alone rise if they continue this trend of releasing the same phone every year but more locked down and a couple miniscule features. They're trying to make iPhones with widgets. And completely ignore what brought them back from the dead.
 
I will be sad if you all leave these Forums for a different phone. I for one will be followingthe next phone that is unlocked, so hopefully you all will be @ that phone.
 
i will most certainly buy an unlocked phone, i have my eye on htc and lg right now, LG makes some nice hardware, if they have one that looks good and is unlocked, i may be sold, but the evo 3d is quite tempting, and i will go to t-mo for it, but im cautious because of the buyout from at&t that may happen later this year
 
I imagine, based on the limited quote that Moto released, that they might be working on a developer-type phone, similar to the Nexus, that would be unlocked.

However, I could have read waaaay too much into it.
 
I would love a Motorola Nexus device on verizon. I'd pay full retail and not think twice. My wife may have some words to say but I'd take the dog house for that. As long as the screen is at least 4".

It seems like our phones are heading that direction. The customization is what set android apart in the first place. Every new thing that gets locked down takes away features from android. We may get more updates and more devices than iOS but with every new device it seems like we are losing more features whereas apple is gaining them, albeit very slowly, they're at least adding instead of subtracting. As long as we can root though, we should be fine. But I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't put an end to that eventually too. Its like the end of the muscle car era. Piece by piece they restricted the modifications until they were left with shells of their former self. We'll still have the hardware advantage but the modifications are coming to an end. And I think all phone companies are moving that direction.

Lol I may need to run and hide after this but locked or not the iphone5 does look nice and I will buy one ....now I will also have my loved android device as always ....the level of customization may not be there but we can say its a nice looking device ...I am by no means an apple fanboy but also have an ipad2 that is a thing of beauty...I just like technology in general but android is where my hearts at and if I catch flak for this comment so be it lol

One of my best friends jumped ship from android DX to the iPhone 4 and he's been sending me pix of his jailbroken phone. Pretty customizable, I thought. ;)

OK back OT.
 
My brother is using iOS 4.1 jailbroken and is getting some widgets and other android like features. Just seems like a lot of hoops to jump through to get that customizability.

Sadly they have to jailbreak just to get to 80% of our feature set. and we root to gain a whole other set of functions.
 
This forum is what swayed me to buy an X. I came from the Eris like a lot of you and was comfortable with the group over there. I started looking at a new device in January and was torn between the X and a Tbolt. Well, after seeing the frenzy and the bashing that was going around on the Tbolt side, I checked out the X forum and was happy to see everyone getting along. I was even happier when I realized that a lot of you came from the Eris. This has been an easy transition and you have all made living with a locked bootloader more tolerable. Thanks.

I came from the Eris aswell. If that baby would have had faster hardware, I would have loved it still.
 
I installed GB on my X, then spent the rest of yesterday and tonight playing with my rooted Nook Color.

Now this is how I want to play Angry Birds Rio... on a 7" screen. :cool:

Just restored TBU from my X, and created a recovery backup. This is Android 2.1. Next step is to check out this GB or possibly Froyo. :D

Wow, sounds like a plan to me (provided the unlocked bootloader bit holds true). And while we have you all fired up & in such a good mood, I can't think of a better time to make the wager 'if Kentucky wins the NCAA Championship, Bionics all around... ON STEVEN'!!!

Based on Steven's patience and continued support in these forums, I might just have to follow him for my next phone (barring the ithingy) lol. I've been following this forum since Airmaxx got his DX a week before everyone else and this group in this forum has been simply fantastic. VIVA LA STEVEN!!!!

how do i get in on this? he hasn't shot the idea down yet, which is practically a verbal commitment.
