What do you guys really do on the web?

I only use it for social and news sites. I see some people with like 2GB or something data plan on their phones what do you guys do to need the much a month?
 
I use 2.5 - 3 GB a month. However, a large amount of that is streaming internet radio whenever I'm in my car or at the gym. Or reading the news if I'm waiting for something outside of home.
 
I've gone over 20GB in a month downloading podcasts (approx 150 hours of audio in 4 weeks). I've used wifi more recently so most of my data useage on my phone is for AF or when I get bored on my breaks
 
I am on a 5 gig plan, and I use it to tether my laptop sometimes, and to stream netflix to my phone which I then hook to my t.v.
 
I am unlimited through Sprint. I have my device rooted so I use the Wifi HotSpot for free, which I know uses a lot of data. I would say that I use 5-10GB/month. I watch videos, get email, and download music and movies to my SD Card.
 
Unlimited net plan. My provider says I can do pretty much anything with it. I tether to laptop and use it for basically everything, even movie downloads. I like downloading HD movies. :-). My provider told me that I could use up 1TB in a month if I can and they wont mind.

Dang, who is your provider? I have T-mobile, and like I said I have the 5 gig plan, and after 5 gigs they are supposed to throttle me. I went over 5 gigs last month, but they didn't throttle me, so idk? I had heard a rumor if you got the 5 gig plan then they wouldn't throttle you, but then why call it a 5 gig plan?

I'm not in the States/EU. LOL. I'm on Globe Philippines. When I'm at school, I use my phone to tether since its way faster than the WiFi they provide, I could use up a gig a day actually. Usually in my country, they limit you for time, for example you can pay for a 45hr plan (cheapest plan I've seen so far here, on a competing provider to Globe). They dont care if you manage to download 100TB within that time span as long as you only use 45hrs uptime on the internet.

The thing is, their unlimited data plans use the same access point as their internet USB sticks, which are also providing unlimited data the same way.
 
I'm on AT&T and have the 200 MB plan. Yes I know.

I rarely use data, only to check email and twitter, etc.... Pretty much anywhere I go has great wifi, either at home/work/school/train/plane, etc.....

But from Wifi data usage, usually tops around 5-7 Gigs a month.

Google nav
Reading news
Status updates and chats on facebook
Uploading pictures Picassa and/or facebook
Tracking my bike rides with Endomondo
Checking prices with shopsavvy
Listening to pandora
Listening to iheart radio
Listening to TuneIn Radio
Listening to Google Music
Downloading podcasts
Streaming podcasts
Watching Netflix
Watching Hockey Games
Watching HBO Go
Watching Poker on J Player
Watching YouTube
Checking TV listings
Programming my DVR
Online banking/ depositing checks
Online games
Checking the weather
Downloading books
Downloading from dropbox
and of course last but not least reading and moderating this forum :D


Of course I'm on an unlimited plan and looking forward to 4G right now. I've hit the 20 GB mark on several occasions.

Probably to attempt to scare you into not using more than 5 GBs. If they just called it unlimited, you might just download with reckless abandon. Either that or they will throttle you (I really have to fight my urges to make references to sexual innuendo there) only after you consume way more than 5GBs or there's a network slowdown in your area and they see that you're over 5GBs, so they throttle you so other customers get faster speeds.

So, either consume 20GBs this month or tell all your friends to start streaming movies after you consumed more than 5GB and see what happens :P

Question, how fast is data via Globe now? I remember when I was on vacation 2 years ago and got their Globe Tattoo (Huawei USB adapter) and download speeds were pretty abysmal (slow as dial-up), not to mention I kept getting disconnected (this is near Eastwood in QC).

I dont know how to check data speeds with Android, but with my old 5800, I hit the 3G antenna capacity of the phone (3.5mbps) consistently, and my tether now is faster than it was when I had the 5800, considering my phone now has a limit of 10mbps. Looks like I'm getting 5-8mbps on off peak hours max.

One thing to note though, I am on postpaid, and the access points for postpaid and prepaid for Globe are different. Prepaid speeds are abysmal, mainly due to the fact that there are more users I guess.
 
Man I thought I was a heavy user! Apparently not, lol! I generally go through 1g a month. I will say I am on WIFI a lot though.

I generally browse forums, do some banking a little streaming of music, more so streaming of Netflix.

That's really about it, but I can be on some forums for hours at a time.

I do mess around with a lot of apps on the Market though and testing stuff.

Where do you download your movies from?
 
Moving this to the lounge as it is not directly Android related.

PS I use my mobile web for email / info look up, and GPS nav.
 
I average around 10GB a month on verizon, although my largest month was 75GB

I use my phone to
tether,
email,
netflix,
download most if not all my roms through 3g,
drop box (kind of a redundant SD card back up),
demo'ing any thing these phones can do for customers,
web,
pandora,
google music,
spotify,
VPN,
uploading pictures to the web

I actually use my phone for almost everything instead of my computer.

if I didn't work for a verizon retailer they probably would have kicked me off the network.
 
Most of my phones data is Streaming Slacker radio, Facebook, and photos (uploading to picasa and syncing back to my gallery)

I have been throttled by T Mobile, but I was staying with a friend without home Internet that month and was tethering and watching movies and tv and stuff. Now I have sprint, so no more worries about being throttled :cool:
 
I'm currently on US Cellular but live in Dallas... service is awful and phone selection is worst. I use only a GB or 2 per month with Pandora, some light web surfing, Youtube etc. Think I'm switching to Verizon in short order and going with the Galaxy Nexus. Unfortunately I'm not grandfathered in to Unlimited Data plan :-/
 
Forums mostly(I'm an iGent) and content for lesson materials, usually from Wikipedia. Skype in the evening for talking to friends in the UK, Web QQ and listening to BBC radio. Download music and movies sometimes, but not too often. Dunno how much data in total, probably not a lot. This is with my laptops, maybe 4-5GB of EVDO 3G mobile data a month, everything else is at home or work.

It's zero data for my phone, except when it's connected via WiFi.
 
I use my phone to mostly for forums (AF and XDA), reading the news and checking my emails and chatting with my friends (Whatsapp/Kik/IMO) and G+. I have a 6GB data plan that I share with my sister's iPad. It's an additional $10 a month but I get a SIM for her iPad and she can use my data whenever she wants. So there's no need to tether her iPad to my phone. On my phone, I use 2GB of data and my sister uses 0.5-1GB (facebook and news). At home, we only have 25GB of data...and it's shared between 4 people, so I rarely use WIFI at home for this reason.
 
pandora.... stream it approximately 3 hours out of the day...
