What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

How can I do this? I want Spotify to shutdown at midnight and not drain the whole night.

That is a problem, if you have Gingerbread. Gingerbread will not allow one program to turn off another.

I programmed my phone to tell me to shut off certain programs at certain times and/or circumstances.

Hi,
Anyone know how to setup a profile using tasker so that when I go onto the internet, the LTE mobile mode is selected? When I am not on the internet, either go back to 4G or even 3G for other apps. Keeping the mobile mode on LTE really drains the battery. Don't need it on all the time.
Thanks,
Matnick

It depends. First of all, what do you mean by "when I go onto the internet"? Like when you open your web browser? Secondly, is there, in fact, a setting on your phone to switch between LTE and 4G/3G?

Are you on Gingerbread because it doesn't allow to turn GPS on or off. How do you do it?

Hi,
I have a Motorola Droid Bionic and I have Gingerbread version 5.5.893 stock (non-rooted).

I have several apps, such as Maps, Trapster & Nav set to turn GPS ON when those apps are started and as an "exit task", to shut OFF GPS. Been working fine for me.

I can't shut off APPS with Tasker in Gingerbread so I have Tasker VERBALLY tell me to shut off those apps.

Dan, this is really interesting because I've tried this on my Desire (turning GPS on when I kick off Maps/Navigation) and it sort of works, but not quite. When I turn on Maps, it begins to turn on GPS, but immediately I get a 'GPS is disabled, show GPS settings?' box, and I click yes, but then it goes to the GPS screen, which (because of Tasker) is actually turned on by now....

I don't really understand how to stop this annoyance occuring - it's like Tasker is not quite quick enough to kick off GPS so that this message box doesn't turn up....

Anyone find/get around this frustration?

Thanks,
Andy

I have a question regarding profiles that are for certain days.

I have a 'work' profile set up which will kill all internet at a certain time (8:50pm), dim the screen and turn vibrate on and will turn off again the next morning (6:00am)...I want this only for monday night to saturday morning. But when I tried to set it up to work for certain days it would mess up and create a second profile or context where it was 8:50 - 0:00 which was ok, but then would screw up the next one which you would think would be 0:00 - 06:00...it would be from unknown time to 11:00..

so is there anyway to properly do the days thing or would I have to create a second task to do this?

Hi,

Yes when I open my internet browser I would like to be on LTE. The other data stuff like emails does not need to use the LTE network.

On my Galaxy S2 LTE phone, I can go into Settings>Wireless and Networ>Mobile Networks>Network mode> and then I can select either GSM/HSPA/LTE (AUTO MODE) or GSM/HSPA (AUTO MODE) or GSM only or HSPA only.

Actually I meant to say the Gingerbread 2.3 +

Another way to do it (or I have done it) is using the Car Dock app "CarHome Ultra". That app can be turned on by Tasker and, within that app, you can turn on GPS, BLUETOOTH & SPEAKERPHONE automatically on startup. Tasker can't turn off that app but I have it remind me verbally when I unplug power in my car. When shutting off that one app, it turns those features all off. That app costs $1.99 after 30 days of demo...best car dock I have found.

https://market.android.com/details?...51bGwsMSwxLDEsInNwaW5uaW5naGVhZC5jYXJob21lIl0.

EDIT: TESTED "CARDOCK ULTRA" AND GPS DOES NOT TURN ON TOTALLY AUTOMATIC WITH THIS APP. Definitely my Tasker turning GPS on/off when needed.
----------------

The way I have my Tasker, with GPS, set up is as follows:

When I plug into Power (with No Wifi connected) > GPS ON

Than a separate Profile waits 2 seconds than starts my CarDock Ultra app than it waits 7 seconds and starts my Trapster (police lookout) app.

If I activate Maps or Nav after that, GPS is already ON until I exit my car.

I think it works better starting GPS BEFORE starting apps requiring GPS instead of "at the same time".

You will need 2 tasks.

The first is Mon-Fri: 20:50-0:00

The second is Tue-Sat: 0:00-06:00

Hi. Great tasks! I've used many of them to make my phone more "automatic".

I've run into a problem. I'm using this plugin: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.intangibleobject.securesettings.plugin, to turn on my GPS for all Apps that need it. The exit Task is to turn off GPS on exit, but it becomes a problem for Navigation. Even though it's still on in the background Tasker turns off GPS.
Any idea how to have it on while Navigation is still running in the background?
TIA!

Re GPS on/off problems:

On my Desire I have GPS enabled all the time via a toggle BUT it doesn't kick in until a program needs it. For example if I start Navigation the GPS switches on and when I come out of Navigation GPS switches off. I have not noticed that this affects battery life at all. I used to try to handle this via Tasker but ran in to the same problems as outlined above. So perhaps you don't need Tasker to handle GPS at all?

I hope I have understood the problem correctly!

I posted this before, but I still need help: I have a silent profile for when at work, I want 2 contacts to ring even when silence. I got it to work for when the contacts call me but I can't figure out how to do it when a text is sent. Also, this is minor but when the contacts call the general ring tone rings and not their special ring tone.

incoming caller will be a state for the profile.
Received text will be an event for the profile.

The task for be the same for both if you wanted the ring tone to be same for all. Or have separate tasks for each profile unless you are comfortable to use the "if" in the tasks.

The tasks will be...( assuming you have already put in silent mode)

1)media volume( choose level)
2) music play( select media file you want for each)

I hope this explains. I've tested and both call and text work. Let me know you need me to email profile to you.

For the gps on when launching certain apps, can I make it turn off only when I hard exit an app? I.e., long-pressing exit. I think the current profiles posted turns off when in standby or when switching to a different app, right?

I think you're right about this. If GPS is on for me it won't start searching until I open something that needs the GPS. One way to tell if it uses battery power is to watch in your phone settings to see what's really using power.

GPS never shows up in my battery settings so I think that that confirms that it doesn't use battery unless a program is using it. I continue to leave it switched on (using Widgetsoid to keep a check on it) and programs using GPS cause it to turn on (as seen at the top of the screen) and then off when I quit them.

Would GPS show up in the battery report. I would have expected it to be the application that is using it? Just a guess??

Hello all, I've been attempting my first Tasker Profile and can't seem to get it to work properly. I'm trying to set silent mode to day (M-F) and time (7:00-16:00) with an exit task of all sounds (notify, ringer, etc.) on 7. I've noticed that I can get it to work, but if I accidentally change the volume on the phone, which I do quite often while holding the phone, it nullifies the Tasker profile and will notify me when I receive a call or text. Would some sort of repeat function help avoid this? Perhaps every 15 minutes it resets back to silent mode in case the volume button has been pushed?

I've added the condition variable Volume Ringer and now during that time it doesn't matter if I change the volume or not. However, there is no longer an exit task, so I think it just goes back to the volume settings prior to activating.

I will share the profile I just created, I like it a lot.

For showing pictures to people, this profile prevents the phone display from timing out.

Add Application - Gallery

Add the task Display Brightness and set it to high, or your preferred level.
Add the task Display Timeout and set all bars to full.

So when you're viewing or showing pictures to people you don't have to keep touching the display to light up again. Once you exit Gallery, the display settings return to what you normally have them set to.

Thanks Anikun.

I like this display one, so simple yet so useful for a few apps (browser is another one that I am often using when I give my phone to someone to look at). Much appreciated.

No more having to remind the missus to keep touching the screen so it doesn't lock....and no more of her quizzical face when she looks at me and says "why are you showing me a blank screen?". Genius.

Good point, I think you're right. But my point is that, although I keep GPS switched on (but idle) it never kicks in unless a program calls for it and has no effect on my battery while it's idling.
