What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

Right I got a toughy, well maybe its not for the experienced..

I have 4 profiles set right now on my phone...

- Wifi on/off through Location (home)..changing as well to 3G when out of the 'home' location...and changing the background to a darker background when outside so its more visible and back to colourful when home..
- GPS on/off when I launch GPS needed applications..
- Games turning wifi on/off when launching (needed for advert filled games to get rid of them)
- Battery 20% shutting all wireless connections and turning brightness down to 30% as well as changing background to black to lower consumption.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now my first question is this...I would like the 'Games' profile to turn on/off the wifi AND 3G Data depending on the status of the first profile 'Wifi on/off'...For example, if im at home I want to play say angry birds it will turn off Wifi, which I have on at home and turn it back on after I finished playing...BUT I want it to also do the same when outside the 'Home' location with 3G data...

I did put in the "Data on/off" task in the same profile, but it does this weird switching back and forth between wifi and normal data connection when I finished playing the game...this normal? can what I want be done?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now for my second question...I want to have a 5th profile to have ALL wireless connections...wifi,data,gps etc OFF between midnight and 08:30 am and switch either wifi *OR* data back on depending on the location (refer to first profile with home location) and to also have a different 'night' background during this time as well...so for example, if im at home I want it to switch back to wifi at 08:31am and if im not at home then to switch to data at 08:31..

is it possible?

I am trying to create a profile that with a gesture, the camera turns on. Where it gets complicated for me is that I would like the camera be accessible even if the phone is locked and have the display turn on. Something like a camera screen lock widget.

Can Tasker unlock a specific application when the phone is locked so that the rest of the security on the phone remains intact?

is this profile possible?

thanks for the help!

I use WidgetLocker for my lock screen and I can launch my camera from my lock screen. I am not sure how you could do it using tasker, but it is definitely easy if you replace your lockscreen

So, im struggling with a toggle widget..cant work something out,

I want to be able to toggle a task on and off with one widget button.
The task is a variable set. I want to be able to switch this on and off which in turn would trigger a number of tasks. I just cant seem to get my head round this.here's what I want to do...

I work in various locations, and at various times. When I'm at work I want to be able to run a number of tasks eg silence, no sync, sms respond if call from favourite etc. I have all of this running with a single location context but I want to be able to have a toggle widget instead so I can run in wherever I am working.

I have set up a task that is variable set name %where to work which all the other tasks work from. It is this variable set that I want to toggle on and off

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I should imagine for both of these you will need to set up new variables

For example for my home task I have added the variable set NAME %WHERE To home.

I can then run other tasks that have "if" %WHERE ~ home. At the start so they only run if I'm at home.

thats what I was thinking, just the fact the variables portion of tasker then confuses the hell outta me lol

Tell me sbout it. Lol, im trying to create a toggle widget that turns off/on the variable.

To do what you need should be just to add a task set variable %WHERE to HOME when you run your location profile.

That way you can set up another profile that adjusts wifi/data etc when the variable matches HOME and if not matches HOME.

I've been playing around using variables. (not rooted phone)
I managed to make a widget that plays music using 3 (cubed) app.
It's just one button that changes functionality, and widget icon, from play to pause.

Something like this:
- Begins with icon 'PLAY'.
- On press, play music, change icon to 'PAUSE'.
- On press, pause music, change icon to 'PLAY'.
- And so on..

What I want to do (haven't figured it out yet) is to change the widget to another icon and function for a couple of seconds after y press 'PAUSE', and then continue normally. Make the icon 'STOP' and the function to exit app.
The result would be to exit app only if I press two times in a row.

If anyone is intrested in the play/pause widget I'd be happy to help.

pliz help me know how to set the tasker such that when i plug in the headphones it shows different music player options in my phone....step by step am new in this thing///thankz

Any suggestions on auto foursquare checkin.

This has been documented before, but used v1 of the API which 4sq disabled on 1st Sep.
v2 of the api could be used, except it requires https support which tasker doesn't have natively.

One option would be to create my own "proxy" which actually does the checking, but I'm wondering if anyone else has solved this issue and if so, how. For example launching the 4sq app itself with command line parms (which I've not seen documented), or using another app?

I'm just wondering if anyone has been able to find a way to apply a setting to opening a folder rather than a file? Basically i want to use it to password protect some folders and figured if it was possible it would save me buying a second app for this, i've tried the free trial on some of these and they just make it a longer process to access, i have sensitive files for work and i sometimes have to give my phone to employees to answer while i'm in meetings and i don't want them accessing these files without my knowledge. If not i may just password protect the My Files application but would prefer to be able to avoid this.

Has anyone worked out a way to do this?

Have you tried the app Seal? It has a lot of options, and there is a free version you can try first. This is what I use to protect sensitive apps, but I haven't tried with folders.

here you go,

state: signal strength -> from 0 to 1 (up to you though)

tasks:
1 - tasker -> wait, 2 minutes
2 - tasker -> if, %CELLSIG < 1
3 - net -> Airplane mode, set on
4 - tasker -> wait, 12 minutes (up to you)
5 - net -> airplane mode, set off

that's it, the signal drops below 10%, tasker waits two minutes, if it is still under 10% it till set airplane mode on otherwise exit the task. It will then switch airplane mode off after 12 minutes. Then it will automatically go back to the start and do it over again (no need to create an actual loop) because cell signal is reported again automatically after airplane mode is off so that brings it back to the start.

hope it works for you :)

Sorry if this isn't a help forum, I found it on google and didn't want to make another thread if not necessary.

I'm quite new to tasker and want to achieve this same thing on my Droid 2, haven't yet got a chance to try it out, but had a couple of questions.

  1. Do I have to implement that from the tasks edit into the profiles (main window)?
  2. I found another post where someone said they tracked their %cellsig using the pop up notification and that 16 was actually when they didn't have service. How would I set up a tracker like that, so I know what value to set if statement?

Does anyone know a way to use Tasker to turn off/on the lockscreen gesture controls in GV2.8 (which are under CyanogenMod settings, lockscreen)?

I know this is a bit late, and I may be misunderstanding your issue, but Zoom may be what you're after. It's by the same developer as Tasker and is a widget builder for Tasker. It allows more sophisticated interaction then just the widget function of Tasker itself.

Does anyone know how to deal with captive portals? I have a WiFi enable when on campus but since there is a captive portal occasionally I have to log in again or in some cases I escape the range of the campus network and get kicked out. Is there a way to automatically log in to a website as an entrance task? I am new to tasker and currently RTFMing so any variable or code based settings need examples or step by step instructions. Thanks in advance.

  • Android Notifier : When my "Home" profile is active, Tasker will enable the Remote Notifier for Android service. Remote Notifier for Android, simply sends notifications to your computer, when you have an incoming call, SMS, MMS, or when your battery is low, etc.

  • Sorry to dig this up, but I cannot find any information ANYWHERE on how to enable/disable Remote Notifier with Tasker. I have the plugin installed and Tasker sees it, but how do I enable/disable it based on different profiles?

EDIT: Never mind, found it eventually...

So rather than start a new thread, I figured I'd try asking here.

I have a profile that turns off my WiFi when my display is turned off, however this becomes a problem when I'm streaming Pandora and want to turn off the display to preserve battery life. I've done hours of research in multiple forums and on tasker support sites, but I think I'm in over my head. Do I need to set up variables (totally lost when it comes to those), or is there another way?

So, recap: I want WiFi to turn off whenever I turn off the display unless Pandora is already running. Help?

you should be able to add a second context to you profile. Press the context which I'm assuming you have as state display off and it will give you the option to add. Choose application and your application list will come up. Choose Pandora and then bottom right there is a not button. press this and store. Your orifice should now run as you have it but NOT if Pandora is running.

I'm trying to create a new task to enable a 'Sleep' mode for Music, where it will auto-close after an hour. I created the following profile, but it is not working...
1. Open App - Music
2. Wait - 1 hour
3. Kill App - Music

I search all over the interwebs for help, but couldn't find anything. Anybody have any ideas?

In Froyo Google removed the ability to kill apps. Tasker has an option to do it only if you are rooted, but it still doesn't work very good (at least I never could get it to work). I used to love having Tasker kill Slacker when I got out of my car :(

Bummer. Thanks.

Not much consolation, but some music players have a sleep function (eg Power Amp).

Otherwise, if your playlist is not too long, and not on a loop, you could get Tasker to silence the media volume after an hour and the music will stop eventually.

Don't know if you still need this info, but I just made that for myself and when I stumbled across your post, I thought I'd help you out.

  1. Create a profile called "Headset Plugged In"
  2. For State choose: Hardware Action -> Hardware Plugged
  3. For Task choose: Category -> App -> Load App -> Music
  4. Repeat for for as many apps you like. I have Music, BeyondPod and FM Radio and Dialer. It can be what ever you like.
  5. Done.
The only problem I have experienced with this is that when somebody called me during the playback it doesn't resume. I need to start up the app again.
