What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

Hi all

Is it possible for tasker to turn the phone off (shutdown) at a given time ? ? ?

Ie when listening to radio at night ?

Been through the various menus but I am really struggling on this on...

Many thanks for your time

Regards

Mike

Yes, it is possible. However like any app that can reboot/shut down your phone, you MUST be rooted.

In your Tasker profile for doing this (ex. at 2:00 am), select the task command:

Misc > Reboot - in the reboot dialog is a menu with different options and one is Shut Down.

Does anyone use pattern matching within Cell Near?

Scanning with Tasker I get something like:
Code:
GSM:1121.10893545 / 10

My understanding is that:
  • 1121 is the cell tower ID
  • 10893545 is the last seen signal strength
  • 10 is the currently connected cell

I am able to trigger a pattern match using
Code:
GSM:1121.10893545 / *

Unfortunately the last seen signal strength changes so often that the actual match rarely happens.

I also tried the matches:
Code:
GSM:1121.* / *
GSM:1121.+
GSM:1121.*

but the debug log always says

Code:
cell seen GSM:1121.<current_signal_strength> wanted <my_pattern>

Anyone is actually using this state to trigger tasks with pattern matches?

You don't need to turn the phone off at a certain time to stop the music.

If you are using TASKER, get it to start playing the music at "time x" and stop playing the music at "time y".

Thanks Flying dog

Normally listen to Tunein Radio......would that be the same process as I am struggling with this one (and others) :)

I have 'tried' to set up a routine when switching on a map based application..........which

1 Turns on GPS
2 Switches off WiFi
3 Turns on mobile network....

Turn on GPS ok but 2/3 fail.....?

Wondered if I have missed a setting which allows all three to happen at the same time

Any ideas

Many thanks

Mike

Going off on another tangent I hope someone can help.

Can Taker:
1 - Detect when "Hands free" is selected
2 - Change the "Alarm notification tone"

I have found mention of "HANDS FREE" but it turns it on or off. Not detecting if it is selected.

Reading the manual, I found something to do with Hands Free, but now I am searching for it, I can't find it. Also when I could find it where it was listed, I couldn't find it in the program. It didn't seem to be "structured" as the manual.

Another question is reading the manual with things, when they say "requires version 3.1.0, does that mean the OS, or that app?

Found it!

Actions/speakerphone.
"Whether the speaker phone is on or off."

Where is it?

I can't find how to "invoke" this function.

Not sure if any of you clever so and so's can help me with my basic Bluetooth profile. I've got it set to Wifi Not Connected to toggle bluetooth so that when I'm in my car, it detects my bluetooth and turns on......although it works, it's a bit flakey.

I've tried an event of Bluetooth not connected but doesn't appear to work, not sure why though as I think that would be best. At the moment I'm finding it's draining the battery and every now and then it slows and hangs the phone.

Any advise please on how to improve

Thanks

I'm no expert, but I think you will need delays and things like that.

Can you post the "English" version of what you have?
I can't read the propper formatted stuff.

Ummm... Ok. That's a bit tooo simple.

So you are using the state of the WIFI to control the Bluetooth.
"Toggling" the Bluetooth may not be the best. Turning it on would be better.
Then you put an "EXIT TASK" function so when the WIFI is connected, it turns the bluetooth off.

Ok, so I have built one similar.

Set the "WIFI Connected NOT" condition, with the required details so it knows it is your wifi.

Then set the Bluetooth ON.
Then click the Done.
From there, click the Bluetooth ON box with the Green > arrow.
Then click "Add EXIT TASK"
New task.
BlueTooth OFF.

That should be a bit better for you.

I don't really want to use the Wifi state as an event but the only one I could see to work. Wanted state of Bluetooth not connected but it never picked up, maybe something I did wrong.

I don't want bluetooth to be on all the time though when I'm off WiFi which is why I set the toggle in fear of it being on all the time it would drain the battery

I think you need to re-think the paramaters for what you want this "routine" to do and under what conditions.

What will tell the phone it is not at home and to turn on the bluetooth?
Is this condition constant?

Wouldn't it be easier just to put a bluetooth toggle widget on the screen, so when you want the bluetooth on, you click the widget and that's that.

yep I have got that as well, just nice to automate it. Annoying that 'Bluetooth not connected' state doesn't work

do you have a car charger...If so, use the event as power connected to turn bluetooth on. You can either set up pop up to give you choices...car, home, night etc or you can add in the location by cell which uses little battery - however you may have to wait until you are a few hundred meters away from home for it to kick in and turn things on/off.

I have these profiles set up:

Power plug in
Context - Power pluged in
Task -1. Perform task "mode menu"
exit task - Standard mode all off
1.Blutooth set off
2.GPS etc etc (whatever you have set to turn on with regards to all of the power mode tasks)

Task - "mode menu"
1.perform task "Car mode"
2.perfom Task "Home mode"

Task - "car mode"
1.Bluetooth set on
2.Gps, brightness etc etc

However if the power option isnt ideal for you, you could have a location specific context which would allow you not use the wifi context and allow you even to switch wifi on/off with the same context.

I also have a "home" context which only uses the net location and not gps. Whenever I am near home it turns wifi on etc. This however not so great unless phone screen is on when arriving/leaving home as this is more likely to run the location.

nope don't have a car charger. Being awkward aren't I lol

1. get one..! ;) obviously depending on how much time you are in your car but I find that i dont often have to charge my phone at home as the drive to and from work sorts it out fine.

2. if getting isnt an option try the location context. not using the gps though as this would mean youd need to keep it on the whole time. I find no noticible effect to battery with just using the net option. The only problem I find is that if walking to/away fomr home if the screen is off it doesnt always kick in immediately. You can set the regularity it checks cell location in options though, but possible if you mess wit these too much then battery might be effected.

yep location sounds ok, but then location could be anywhere, out and about. Have been thinking about a car charger.

Does it pick up that it's a specific car one or just recognise as charger

Make sure you get branded one. It's worth the extra money as I have heard some of the other cheaper ones don't charge very well. My one doesn't recognise different from home charge which is why I have mode menu. When I plug in charge menu pops up to ask car, home or night mode.

ok just tried again with state 'not bluetooth connected' and it did immediately kick in bluetooth. It seemed to stay on a while so I'm not sure how long it looks for, guessing default somewhere.

As I'm in the office and I know I don't want it to connect, I've added in an additional state of 'wifi not connected'

Will see what happens when I leave work tonight, fingers crossed

Ok that didn't work. It took ages to recognise and once it did connect it dropped out again. Got indoors where it should of picked up home WiFi but froze phone.

Does anyone know of a way of switching Background Data on/off on a schedule using Tasker? I can find options for Auto Sync but not Background Data.

I'm trying out the trial version and I knew there was a learning curve for Tasker but didn't think it was this complicated. Could anyone help me out on setting up some profiles.

I'd like to dim the brightness down in the morning between 9 and 11, and turn off screen rotation. I would also like to stop this profile(brighten display/turn on screen rotation again) when I .. for example.. put the brightness up a little manually or will I have to go in and turn the profile off in Tasker?

I would also like to know can you set Tasker to read SMS's out loud between certain times? Like read them out loud between 9 and 11?
