What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

Yup, Tasker can do most everything.
However it can't make the proximity sensor do anything when the screen is off. I don't know if it's the same with flipping the phone, but I suspect that it is. Any profile based on orientation or proximity need screen on to trigger or exit.

Wifi only at home need task wifi toggle (triggered by position if you only use wifi at home - NOT GPS as that will drain your battery very fast) and wifi set on, another profile home to connect to your wifi SSID when detected by profile one.

Keep looking in the Tasker wiki pages for inspiration.

well dammit.....oh well...thanks for the info..

I found this wifi automator. However, the instructions say download the xml files. However, when I click on them, they are just text pages with code on them. Do I put the text on a document and change the extension to xml?

Question...

I understand that you need the screen on in order to do any of the proximity sensor profiles.
What about when the phone is ringing? The screen turns on right?
Would it be then possible to answer your phone by waving your hand infront of the sensor to answer the call?

Just thinking, if hands are dirty or something, you could just answer the phone without having to touch the screen.....

Give it a shot.

Try context incoming call and context proximity sensor (gesture?) task answer speaker phone and turn screen on for 20 minutes.

To hang up, I don't really know...

Prossibly context speaker phone and ongoing call(???) task gesture end call speaker phone off screen off.

Or maybe rather an exit task..?

Connectz > I don't know.

Hi All,

Does anybody know if its possible to put a tasker in the Status Bar, I can get the logo to appear, but what it to run when selected from the drop down?

Hope this makes sense?

Thanks

I just installed tasker today, but I am lining out the ideas for what I want. The trick for me right now appears to be figuring out the right set of conditional triggers for each situation I am looking for.

There are a few places where I stick my phone in a locker while I am in the building (the gym, and one of my work offices) so I am working out a scheme so the phone knows its in the locker

(loc>gym>screen off>) ???

so the phone will go silent, turn off Bluetooth, and reply to SMS with an away message.

For the office version, I may try tweaking it to forward a copy of the SMS to my email.

Next I'll have to figure a way for it to realize when I am in my car an turn on bluetooth only then, but I haven't come up with anything yet. I don't dock (Ford SYNC FTW!) in the car, and I come in and out of the office at irregular times, so neither docking or time will do it for me.

It takes more time to set up than most apps, but that is because it is so versatile and powerful. The Tasker Wiki has some profiles that you can use set up some on your phone, that is what I did when I first got the app. Now I always make my own, in fact just this morning I cleaned mine up and optimized some of my earlier profiles.

You definitely do not need to know any programming languages. If you just take a little bit of time to learn how to use the app you will be making very useful profiles in no time and the app will be well worth the money.

I'm just spitballing here, but from what I see, it appears that you only need to be able to understand query logic. It seems like everything is built around the same conditional, if, and, or kind of inputs.

Basically, if you can learn how to type search strings into google ( "tasker +android -"space robot") then you can figure out tasker.

I answered this in the other thread that you asked this question in.

I am just starting to use the For loops and the user guide says I should be able to set a counter loop by using the 'For action loop' (instead`of using a variable set- variable add- and goto if count < x ) . I have tried but cant figure out how to set it up.
Could anyone list out the proper place to the variables, conditions and actions for a simple counter loop... to preform task x a set number of times??

For incoming calls, you can set a profile, and use "Incoming Call" as state, and Tasker, Profile Status ReadSMS = off. Exit task: Tasker, Profile Status ReadSMS = on.

Or else you can set a profile using state "Incoming Call" to create a variable, and then use it in the "IF" condition on the original profile. i.e. "IF %INCCALL isn't set". Clear the variable on exit.

It should work, I did not try though.

For outbound calls, or probably both in and out, you can use App selection instead to disable ReadSMS when using dialer or phone apk.

My problem with my ReadSMS is it just talks over my Pandora at the same volume so I can't hear either. I don't think there is a way to pause pandora/lower the volume. Is there?

I've tried putting it on another media channel besides "media" but my bluetooth player only uses that stream. How does Navigation lower the volume and speak directions while they are both using the media stream? Any help?

The Media controls I think only really work with Youtube and Google (Play) Music

Hi

I've just update my Sensation XE with ICE and newest Sense. Before I had Near Wifi profiles going on and off, like a charm, but now I'm experiencing problems, where my Near Wifi Home profile, sometimes when I'm home and within range of the router, turns off, and sometimes shortly, sometimes longer, turns back on again. I've added sounds to notify when turning on and off, so I can monitor the behavior. I have the Wifi turned on all day, with no battery trouble. Plenty of battery at the end of the day. I'm sure that I've set the activating signal strength right (signal strength is 9 in my appartment, and normally I have it set to 8), but to be sure, that it isn't what's the problem, I've set it to 6. But still it goes on and off. Sadly, I can't remember the settings in the Monitor tab in the Tasker settings, from before I installe ICE (I also did a factory reset before updating, because of an annoying error with Sense restarting often). Therefore I've just winged it, and tried different settings, regarding to how often Tasker should scan for Wifi networks, when display is off (that's what's importent to me. Also before, Tasker was pretty quick and responsive, when display was off, and I moved in and out from range of the Wifi's at different locations that my profiles are set to run by. I use it especially for activating Bluetooth, to connect to my car radio. And it worked to my satisfaction before.

For now the Monitor settings are as follows:

All checks seconds: 60
Timeout seconds: 30
Wifi Minimum Timeout seconds: 10

I havn't fully understood the function of Tasker search function, but tell me if I explain it right: As soon a Near state is set, Tasker will perform a scan with the apropiate function (in this case the Wifi). The search will be carried out, waether or not, Wifi is turned on by user. Tasker will turn Wifi on by it self, and turn it of, when a set time is reached.

Now a question: The Toggle Wifi setting in the Near Wifi state, what is that for?

It also seems to me, that the search settings isn't met. I havn't been able to prove it, but I guess if I can make a log (need instructions to that), I would be able to see it here?

Has anyone experienced the same as me, or does anyone have a clue to what could be wrong, evt. with a setting. The profiles and tasks wasn't changed during the update or after. They are the same, as before the update.

Sorry for the broken english. Danish dude :D If something needs explaing, please say so, or if something needs to be elaborated, please also do tell.

Regards and thankz

I can only help a little, but every bit counts, right?

Wifi toggle is what allows Tasker to turn wifi on and off during the periodic scans for your home wifi. Without the toggle, it will won't be able to scan if wifi is off. As you have wifi on all day, it won't apply for you, as I understand things.

I don't think that your monitor settings will apply for wifi, because you have wifi on all day long.

I would lower the threshold of the wifi signal strength even more, to 4 or something like that, to make absolutely certain it isn't that.

Do you have an exit task? If so, try inserting a wait task (like 10 sec) before terminating the profile. That might keep Tasker from deactivating the profile if signal dips momentarily.

Is there any way I can set Tasker to do the below:

on button press,
highlight screen text and copy it to the clipboard?

No, you can't make Tasker do anything within a program, as far as I know.

Except for supported apps like setting an alarming in gentle alarm.

Try wifi near when at the gym as context. You just have to identify the wifi, not necessarily connect to it for wifi near to work.

Don't know really. As you leave the office you could use wifi near inverted here, combined with location (net). The same for leaving home. Set up a variable %CAR with values IN and OUT. Have that variable trigger profile car.

My best guess right now :)

Okay. So far so good. Thank You. I know understand, that the offscreen settings is irrelevant, when Wifi is on all the time and I now know the function og Toggle Wifi. Logicical enough. I've tried changing some settings in my router (dynamic channel to static channel and only n network devices). Also rebooted the phone, to be sure, that nothing is blocking the new settings. I'll keep an eye out for any miss behaviour.

I understand Your proposal to insert the wait, but it worked fine before the update. If I still have problems, I will try the Wait command in my exit task, but I can't see that it has to be the solution.

New question: How does the priorities function for profiles work. Fx. I've set my Near Wifi Home profile to priority 10, because I want to have it deactivate, as soon as I'm out of range, so that Bluetooth activates. I'm not that far from my car, so at the short distance, it has to fire off pretty quickly.
How many task can be set to a specific priority set? Can several profiles fx have priority 10?

Hmm, I'm still experiencing same problem. I had my phone in standby with screen off. The profile switch to off (could hear it because I've set a sound to play when it goes on and off). It didn't go on again for a while (5-10 min.). So I turned on the screen (profile was still off). I looked in the profile, and the Wifi Near state context. Did a search via the hour glass, for networks (because You also can see the network strength here), and my network strength was 9. As soon as I closed Tasker again the profile turns on again. Something is deffinetly wrong. The activation signal was set to 8. Man it's annoying. Hope anyone has a guess to what it can be, weather it's a phone setting or something else.

As I haven't really used priorities, I am not able to tell you from personal experience.

The guides for Tasker state that priorities only apply if you have conflicting simultaneous profiles. It will not fire up a new profile faster if the priority is set high. It will only make the profile with the highest priority take precedent over the others if two or more profiles conflict.

Okay. That also makes sense. I gues that I wouldn't experience this. At least not with my current profiles.

Okay, now I've tried to set the activation signal strenth to 4. Still the same.

Fixed it, I put the audio on the Call channel and muted the media channel.

Strange!

I read about a possible solution to weird profile behaviour after updating here on AF in a Tasker thread. Can't recall if it was for OS or Tasker update.

If I remember correctly, you should import the backup you made before the update. Make a new backup of the profiles after having updated. Uninstall Tasker and then reinstall it, and reimport the backup again.

For whatever reason, that seemed to work. I am not certain that I remember it correctly, or that it will help you in any way. Try searching for it in the forums...

Wow, that was cumbersome. Okay. I will try that. Thankz.
