What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

Wierd.
I really don't know what to do next. Perhaps one of the big guns around here could impart some of their wisdom..?

Oh, by the way, did you try the wait in your exit task yet?

Would be great. I have no idea to what could resolve this. Hope some one else maybe have a new idea or a solution. But thankz for Your help uptil now. It was worth a trie:rolleyes:

Hello, I'm a newbie....alot of cool information here.

Questions:
1. How do you make a task take place after a specified amount of time following profile conditions being met?

2. In a related question, how do you instigate more than one task to take place sequentially (as opposed to at the same time) after profile conditions are met?

Thanks in advance.:)

Hello, I'm a newbie....alot of cool information here.

Questions:
1. How do you make a task take place after a specified amount of time following profile conditions being met?
As a first task put Task > Wait for a specified period of time, and then the actual tasks.
2. In a related question, how do you instigate more than one task to take place sequentially (as opposed to at the same time) after profile conditions are met?

Thanks in advance.:)
Depends on what you want those profiles to do. Do you want them to run one after the other from start to finish, or start up one after the other and then run all together?

Generally speaking, a profile will be active for as long as the context(s) are met. To kill one profile while its contexts are still active will need you to set it up so that Tasker turns the profile off after a certain amount of time. When the contexts are no longer met, Tasker must turn those profiles back on, or they won't fire the next time.

Easier would be to have the tasks of the profiles start and stop at different times. That way all the profiles are active simultaniously, but their tasks are not.

Please bear with me....I'm new at this :)

So I set up a task for a lost phone. I can't do the full one listed in the Wiki because I can't change the GPS (I'm not rooted). But I frequently loose the phone in a couch or chair or pocket somewhere.

This is simple...when a text is received it will turn up the brightness, turn up the volume and start playing a song.

But how to I add a trigger that will make the song stop when something happens - like the phone is picked up or the volume is changed, etc?

I suppose it would also be good to turn off wifi and data to save battery if it's lost. But I would want these to turn back on when I found it.

Hello Tasker maniacs

I am as amazed as I could be by Tasker. It's the only app I have purchased and I would gladly pay double the price because it's totally worth it. I created some Profiles to use both with my ZTE Blade smartphone and ASUS Transformer TF101 tablet (both rooted). The profiles work great. Thanks to everyone in here for their efforts and help (just reading the thread was a great eye-opener).

I have a problem and I don't know were to start from. Since my tablet doesn't accept a SIM card, whenever I'm away from WiFi hotspots or home, I decided to tether my phone and use it's data connection as a WiFi hotspot for the tablet. The phone has a setting that makes the WiFi turn off when the screen turns off (that's for preservation of battery). The problem is that, when this happens, the WiFi signal providing Internet to the tablet gets lost. Furthermore, when I turn the phone's screen on again, I have to restart both devices in order to continue tethering, because otherwise tethering just doesn't accept to function at all.

My data connection plan is charged by my carrier via data volume, counting download+upload volume (500MB for 5 euros... ), so it is imperative that this connection doesn't remain open all the time.

What I am looking for is two Profiles

One will be run in the phone and do the following:

  1. Create a button in the phone's home screen (lets call it "TE2TRA") to toggle tethering on/off. When pressed, this should also turn the phone's data connection on.
  2. When this button is pressed, it should also:
    • either disable the turn-off-screen-after-x-minutes function (so that WiFi doesn't get disabled) therefore keeping the tethering active (but this would "cost" me battery from the screen being turned on for as long as I am using the Internet connection)
    • or allow the screen to turn off, but keeping the WiFi (and therefore the tethering) active for the tablet to use (which, battery-wise is much better of an option)
  3. Restore everything to its previous state when the TE2TRA button is pressed again. Also, turn the phone's data connection off.

That's from the phone's side.

From the tablet's side, I want to create a Profile that will do the following:

  1. Use the "Say" command to inform me that "Tethering has started" when the tablet successfully connects to the phone's access point.
  2. When no data is received via the tethering connection for x minutes, again use the "Say" command with a message saying "If you won't be accessing the Internet anymore, stop making your carrier rich and turn tethering off in your phone".

Any ideas? Has anyone done something similar to share?
How would you implement this?

TIA

Visual Voicemail and mobile data

I'm trying to do something fairly simple, but I'm not getting it. Basically, since Visual Voicemail needs mobile data to be ON, I'd like to create a profile that insures this when I'm on Wifi. Most of the time I'm on Wifi and Mobile is turned OFF (I'm not sure if it's Juice Defender doing this or if ICS -- which I just upgraded to -- is better at keeping only one radio on). I can get Wifi turned on/off via Widgetsoid easy enough, but not mobile data.

So, basically, when I run Voicemail I need to make certain mobile in ON, and, if I'm not on Wifi to begin with, that mobile stays ON, but if I was on Wifi, for mobile to turn off again. How should I approach this?

Have you considered switching to Google Voice? You do not need to get a new number (though getting one adds in a ton of other features), and you would not need to have mobile data on to check your voicemail (a wifi connection would do just fine).

Hi guys, great ideas over here, now I got a bit of a problem setting one profile.

What I want to do is to make tasker launch a specific app when I run another app, and when I end this app make it kill the first one.

First I made a profile called TRANSPARENT. When I run SMS/MMS app it will run also an app called TRANSPARENT SCREEN and return to SMS/MMS to type. Obviously this causes a loop since returning to SMS/MMS will launch again TRANSPARENT SCREEN, so I included a variable that gets set after TRANSP... runs, this way the task will only run when this variable isn't set.

Now, the problem is how to clear that variable when I exit SMS/MMS. I tried creating an exit task that clears the variable, but the problem is that when SMS/MMS launches TRANSP... it is also exiting, so the exit state becames true and the variable gets cleared and I got the loop again :(

What I need is that when I exit SMS/MMS, TRANSP... gets killed since I only need this app running when SMS/MMS is running too.

any ideas?

I would recommend tinkering with Task > Wait. Idea is to add some delay in your variables being cleared/set. You could try to make it so certain variables are only cleared/set after a certain time period AND certain apps are open/closed. You might need another variable for this to work....but I'm almost positive the solution to your problem lies in using the Wait task.

For those interested....I know many of you wish Tasker would recognize gestures/orientation/light levels while the phone's screen is NOT on. I have a workaround...you must have an OLED screen for this to be beneficial though. Just use the 'Screen Filter' app. It already has Tasker integration in it. With the screen filter app, you can dim your screen down to 2% (thats as low as the dev lets you go...but its basically black). So, I just set my screen display to never timeout and then dim down my phone's screen all the way with the filter app. Now all your sensors will work in Tasker, but the phone screen appears to be off. Also, OLED displays have no backlight. Dimming the colors down actually makes the screen display light up less...thus conserving battery. Since the filter app dims the screen to virtually black...there isn't really ANY battery drain due to the screen being "on". LCD displays have a backlight so this trick WILL NOT conserve battery and is not recommended.

Maybe someone can help. I am trying to setup a battery full alert. I followed the guide on tasker wiki but when my battery is charged the sound never plays. I have tried some other setups but nothing seems to work and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. If someone has successfully setup a similar profile could you share it? Thanks!

surely though if your setting your phone to never timeout, then its not locking the phone at all right?

Thats exactly right. For my specific use of this function, that is acceptable. The phone sits in my Car's cup holder while I drive....I wave my hand over the Proximity Sensor....Music Track changes on my music (amongst many other more technical things). The phone is not locked...meaning touching the seemingly 'off' screen actually does do stuff on the phone. Depending on your specific needs, my workaround may or may not be suitable for you. I just found an interesting way to use my Prox Sensor while I drive without draining the crap outa my battery. For those curious, I'd rather not plug my phone into a car charger for usability reasons (charge wire sticking out of the phone is annoying)

Anyone know of a way to put the DATE on the Status/Notification Bar so that it is always visible (like the Time) using Tasker?

I find myself pulling down the status/notification bar everyday to see what the date is and if it was always on top, next to the time, would make it better for me.

Thanks :)

For the last 2 questions;

If you want it in the notification bar, you would have to use a custom rom.

If it can be anywhere else in the screen, you can use Minimalistic Text or any other app that does similar.

Hello Tasker Brain Trust!

I have a problem I need help with please. After the last Tasker update or so, I lost the NEW option of separating my tasker profiles into different TABS. I had 1 tab set up of people to Text saying Happy Birthday on their respective Birthdays.

Since the last update, the extra TABS are gone, and some of my profiles are NOT SHOWING UP now. On top of that, I text somebody Happy Birthday this morning, and I don't see that profile anywhere in Tasker...it's like they are hidden/un-accessable.

Any help appreciated :)

There is a *very* faint down arrow in the top-center of the screen. Below "Tasks" and "Scenes". Slide that down to get back the tabs.

Anyone experienced problems using Tasker and Near Wifi state after upgrading to ICS. I've had to diable my profiles with near Wifi states, cause they won't work correct after I upgraded my Sensation Xe from GB ti ICS. Worked fine before. I've even tried reinstalling the phone, if maybe the was some corruption in the setup process.
It seems that Tasker has become much less reactive regarding survailing Wifi. Some times as much as 20 min. pass before Tasker reacts to me being out of range of my Wifi network. Also it seems like Tasker sometimes thinks that I'm out of range of my Wifi, even if the signal strengt is far over the activation level. Should never had upgraded to ICS, sob.

Ya holy shit....didn't even know tabs were supported in Tasker. I even see people ask for it in random threads and others responding that it isn't available. Glad I can now organize my laundry list of profiles....(I have like 12 related to just me being in my Car!)

i got this problem had this problem since my nephew accidenly did a factory reset on my phone - (had 2.34 gingerbread then) now ICS.

Problem is: i use tasker to tell me a voice command that my phone is fully charged, this command wont work with google txt to speech, i had to download Ivona text to speech - only works with Ivona, before my accidently factory reset it worked with google's, but not now.
when i try it with google txt to speech - a message comes up saying error unsupported tts? why?
