What will Froyo bring to the X?

For those of us using Launcher pro, what can we look forward to with Froyo? (other than flash)
 
Good point, I guess I asked with Launcher pro because pretty much anything motorola does we wont' be able to take advantage of (ie widgets)

Plus, with Launcher Pro it is already SO fast! Will there seriously be a 2-3 times increase in speed from that? I don't even know what that would look like!
 
it should be able to provide better effects , have more features and options then what is currently available using about the same resources on the phone.
 
never say never. widget and live wallpaper integration should be at the top of their lists...well, i believe so.

perhaps with the 2.2 update, the more efficient froyo code will allow this to be possible.
 
I actually talked to Fredrico (developer of launcherpro) via twitter, and he said droid x's capability to resize widgets will not be supported by launcherpro even in the future because he has no idea how motorola launcher interacts with those widgets.

jangatang, if thats the case, then hopefully somebody hacks his app and customizes it like people have done with swype by adding different colors. Another app comes to mind that was also modded from the original product.... ill try to remember
 
I wonder if the lag that is in the Moto launcher will disappear when 2.2 arrives. Almost as if it was made specifically for 2.2...
 
From the some benchmark videos that i have seen on phones with half the processor speed it made them at least twice as before FroYo. so if this stays the same for the X then from what i heard/ seen it will be crazy fast
 
Froyo doesn't really affect Launcher Pro all that much (I have Froyo running on my Droid 1). A lot of the changes are in the background. We will have a JIT compiler enabled, which will make background tasks and certain applications run much faster. LP runs about the same.

As far as Froyo at large, there are a lot of little interface changes. Too bad Moto uses Blur, though, and interferes with some of the little touches I happen to rely on.

As far as the widgets, the Moto widgets are tied directly into the framework. They are exactly like the HTC Sense widgets. There is no way to effectively port them.

So, basically, no Blur = no Moto widgets that can be resized.

I'm teaching myself how to code, etc, so who knows. But I'm a long way away.
 
Im currently running an early release of Froyo (CM6 Cyanogen) on my EVO and it will be almost as if you have a new phone. Im sure there will be slight variations in everything that is included from Moto and Verizon compared to what Cyanogen includes, but here are just a few things.

1. JIT really will make it fly. Speed and zippiness of scrolling and opening apps and browsing is just insane. Lag just doesn't exist on any level.

2. There are so many automatic options now. Saving apps to SD is an automatic function and you can set it to automatically do it, or you can control it to move only specific apps. You can also move apps from internal to SD really easy.

3. In the market when you have app updates, you can update them all at the same time with the push of one button.

4. The stock browser is totally different, im still trying to figure out how to do things, but its faster and definately has more options. Inculded with flash 10.1 is just incredible.

There are other things im not including because im not sure if its just a cyanogen thing, or froyo thing so I don't wanna speak to whether Moto/Verizon is including those options or not. But you will love it, thats all i can say.

My benchmarks in my sig are listed just to show what kind of jump in performance im seeing just on a pre release ROM. An official release is probably only gonna make them increase more.

I uninstalled my LPP because of the scrolling problem and loading widgets time, which was excessive. In fact, I reset my X entirely. :rolleyes: Perhaps I'll give it another shot after froyo. Thank you for your help.

Don't worry, scrolling and window opening is probably controlled by a parameter passed to the os when you call the procedure or by an OS wide setting. Just look for android benchmarks and you'll see several different device running at different speeds and they all open windows and scroll relatively the same (unless the processor can't keep up and then you see stuttering and lag)

Apps will most likely open and run much faster though

Is LPP Launcher Pro? If so, I had that issue too before I changed to froyo. I found that when I increased the settings to scroll, if I put it all the way up to 10, then it started to act crazy with lag, but putting it on 9 made it real fast, no lag or issues. Maybe that might help some.

I do. (Well I think I do) It's not real resizing. If you'll notice they only resize to certain sizes/configurations. What we really have is a widget that can have several different sizes and all they are doing is drawing a box around the current widget they then let you move it into predetermined row/col sizes and then redrawing the widget with the new, predetermined configuration for a widget that size.

He could either fake this also or just have the widget ask you how many rows and Col you want it to be like ADW does now.
