What's for dinner ?

Tonight, daughter #2 is flying in. She requested we dine at a local Mexican restaurant. Living in Arizona you wouldn't think she would want to come home to eat there.. but, not the case. Their food is good and she grew up with the children of the owner... two of them still work there. Anyway... Mexican night.

We had dinner outdoors last night, here in Oslo. Excellent Indian curries, and live jazz music.
Tonight we'll pay Mr. Hong a visit for Chinese food.

Been a while since I made something nice. Today after stopping by (for the first time) at the farmer's market right next to the White House I settled on:
Pork Milanese, cheddar cauliflower puree (with potatoes, milk, parmesan) and a salad of roasted romanesco, spinach, pine nuts, goat cheese and a roasted tomato vinaigrette.
Dessert, meh, peaches at the market from Toigo were delicious, so seared and topped with a touch of honey, smoked salt and basil. :)
If I remember, I'll take a pic or two.

Last night I fried chicken so tonight,... pizza delivery. :)

It cracked me up when the driver got here she called and said "This is "so and so" from Papa Johns with your delivery..... oh sorry, Mama Chuy." I laughed, she laughed. Said she drove for them on other days of the week. :)
When she got here I said, you wouldn't have an extra order of cheesey bread with you? Yeah, I'm old fart when it comes to stupid jokes. :p

We have every chain imaginable within delivery distance from the home but far prefer a long standing mom and pop place called Pizza John's. Mostly second generation running the place now but you still see John from time to time. Good pizza served with a desire to please.

Papa Johns is probably the worst delivery pizza. If we get delivery, we go with Dominos. If it's legit good pizza, we'll go out for it. Happier just making it at home; it's a whole lot better. (see avi ;))

We have a Papa Johns here. Not a popular place. Dominos is not bad. Godfather's is pretty good. Pizza Hut.. is pizza hut. We have a Papa Murphy's where you take the pie home and cook it yourself. It's pretty good. Years ago we had a Pizza Inn and a Shakey's. They were pretty good but did not survive. Growing up there was an Italian restaurant here called Angelo's. Now they made some kick butt pizza. That was many years ago and I'm afraid they did not survive the fast food craze either.

I miss Papa Gino's in Massachusetts. Loved going there growing up though I imagine my tastes have changed since then.
Papa Gino's was absolutely the best back then :) Sadly their pizza now doesn't really taste the same as it did before, and crap... For the same price of a two slice papa's lunch combo you can get an entire pizza that tastes better. They're way too expensive now!

Oh my.... Most papa Gino's used to have a juke box too. We drove everybody crazy playing van halen, and unfortunately for everybody else dining, we knew where the volume knob was haha
