It is currently 9° and the low today was 3°. Though they pretreated the main roads before the sorry weather moved through, they were still iced late this morning when I was out. The schools have announced that they will be closed again tomorrow due to the bitter cold and slick roads.
Honestly, my wife and I attended school in such weather conditions when we were kids. And to make matters worse, the girls were required to wear dresses. Times have changed... perhaps for the better.

I remember getting to school one day when it was snowing (not too bad) and being told to go home because a blizzard was expected to come through. A few hours later complete white out conditions, blowing snow i think by the time the snow stopped falling we had gotten two or three feet. We ended up being out of school for the rest of the week.

For some reason this morning feels really cold, like the kind that gives you a headache. I even put on the thermals or long John's

80% chance of snow Friday, we really wish Olbriar would keep this crap out where he is and stop pushing it off on us. Time to charge up the new snow thrower and put it to the test...

About the time that I seriously consider investing in a snow thrower I enjoy three or four winters of just light dusting and I'm glad I haven't stored one. Then a winter with repeated snow thrower needs makes me mad that I don't have one.

It warmed up some today. The high I logged was 26.6°. It was warm enough to melt the ice that was on my porch and walk but my residential street is still a mess. I didn't go anywhere today but I assume the main roads that were pretreated are clear. Currently it is 15° with zero wind. The forecasted low over night is 9° with a Wednesday high of 27° to look forward to.

Friday's looking to be our worst day.
Highs of 39 with lows of 30.
90% chance of percipitation.
Rain/sleet/freezing rain.
Saturday has high temps in the 40s dropping down to 25.

I'm just wanting to complain about the heat in the summer.

It's currently 23° with no wind that doesn't seem so bad after the cold + wind we just had. The snow has melted off the main highways but the snow along side the roads is starting to melt and then refreezes at night leaving black ice. The residential and side streets are still a mess. As luck would have it... snow is moving into the are tomorrow afternoon through Friday. Just in time to add to the mess.

this is what my sun looked like all day today. luckily i do not have any clients that are in the affected areas. all of my clients for the past few days have been in areas not affected. however i do have a few clients that have friends and family where the fire has either destroyed their homes or damaged them. it is very eerie to drive into west LA as you drive up you just see smoke everywhere. you would not have known that the sun was out. if you did not know about the fires, you would have thought that the day was just going to be an overcast day. and as you get closer to the fires, the color of the smoke gets more orange.

where i live, the wind is not present. it is almost quiet compared to the past few days. i can finally smoke my cigar and drink my scotch. i have been itching to do that the past few days after work. i hope it stays this way so that the firefighters have a chance to get things more under control.

hopes and prayers go out to the firefighters, first responders and those who have been affected by the fires.

Thankfully you are safe and sound over there.

so on tuesday morning before news of the fires, i drove the 210 FWY which runs across the LA foothills. the freeway crossed a canyon (i forget which one) and as you approach the the canyon, all you see is a dust storm being blown from the canyon across the freeway. as you cross it it is like you are driving into a very thick fog. except the fog is dust. you also see twigs and leaves not flowing with the freeway, but across it being blown from the wind. and as soon as you cross the canyon it clears up. it was super weird to see. and you can feel the gust blow my work van all over the place.

the wind i learned later that day was blowing up to a wind force equal to a category 1 hurricane!!!! and some places were approaching cat 2 hurricane forces!!!!! just crazy!!!!!!

Today was the calm before the storm. Sunny, 35, very nice and mild. Overnight it's gonna turn ugly and, by daybreak, snow will move in. We're really straddling the line, though, between snow and rain... so it will be interesting to see what actually happens.
