Root Whats Your Favorite ROM?

Whats your favorite ROM,and why is it your favorite? Do you like the battery life, the performance, the increased useable app memory, etc. What does it do better than the other ROMs' you may have tried. And last but not least:what recovery are you using

Of course, aospCMod ;)

No other ROM can individually revoke permissions, allows you to change brightness with a simple swipe of the status bar (no button presses when you can't see the screen in sunlight), allows you to tweak the status bar without themeing, I could go on and on. It has a few bugs (camera zoom (fix in progress), headset audio, some ringtones playing once, bluetooth issues).

If there were no aospCMod, I would probably by on Bumblebee.

I like what Harmonia is doing for me right now.Its a really stable ROM even up to 730MHz. Really good available app memory(178MB give or take a few KB's),had no difficulty putting 70 of the 82 apps I have on to the sd card(I only needed Apps2SD to move them),and still have 149MB of app memory. All in all its a good first ROM for a "Nuub". Later, I'll flash a couple more I have on the sd card for comparsion(Bumblebee,Rodimus, and aospCMod CM7+(Gingerbread). I'm currently at 600MHz max-320MHz min. I've been off charge for 18hrs,28m:Still have68% battery. Everything is smooth and fast.EDIT:With light usage I got an astonishing 32hours of battery off charge usage before it went below 21%

I cannot make up my mind. I love the performance and speed of bumblebee, but the look and customization is unbeatable with AOSP. I am running bumblebee as of now, just because I like the performance side...But I think I'm about to put AOSP back on for a bit :p

What kind of battery life do you get?How much do you use your phone in a day(light/moderate/heavy usage)? What kind of performance are you getting? I really started this thread to help other members who are thinking about rooting there "V" and installing a custom ROM. Any and all usefull info about your favorite app I'm sure would be much appreciated by those of us who don't know, but really what to make a decision based on what ROM will be best suited to there needs. Thank you again for your input and I hope there will be more good info to follow...... AndyOpie150

Of course! I apologize for not answering that in my first response.

I use my phone a lot; to tweet, to play games, to listen to music, to text, you get the point. I usually just have to plug in my phone when I get home for the day.

That being said I haven't noticed a big difference in battery life with bumblebee and aospCM7. Both are pretty good on my battery life, and each can be "tuned" to optimize the battery life for your preference.

I do however, give the slight edge to bumblebee for battery life. It seems I can squeeze that extra bit of time out of my phone with it.

Performance wise, both ROMs are great! (Arguably the best roms out for the V). I do like bumblebee again for this though, because of lag. I love the smoothness that I get on the bumblebee ROM. It seems to me that on the aospCM7 ROM, I get a little choppy with the animations (screenchanging, flext9, notification dropdown).

Customization and appearance is a big thing for the aospCM7 ROM. The ROM was made with a lot of detail on customization and appearance. For example, you can change the battery percentage icon on the status bar. Another great example of customization and appearance is in the Theme Chooser. Simple app that lets you change the theme of your V completely. There are many themes on XDA you can get, or even from the Market. aospCM7 gets the BIG advantage on the customization and appearance aspect.

I think what it comes down to though is personally preference. Are you willing to sacrifice certain things to gain access to others? Do you just care about looks? Or do you care more about performance?

Hope this helped you, and anyone else, out. Reply if you have any other questions/concerns. I am more than happy to help you out as much as you need.

That was some very good info on the Bumblebee and aospCM7 ROM's,Thanks. I am currently working on the Reborn ROM by Nick7 and KSmithInNY ,will give all the details from this "Nuubs" experience with it. So far I like the theme of the ROM with it's black notification bar,and stand out colors on the icons. The pulldown is pretty cool too, when it's clear of info, its really clear(transparent). Available app memory seems close to the same as a stock "V"(due in part to all the preinstalled apps),but haven't had a chance yet to move much around to the sd card.It does come with a Terminal Emulator, and an app that's called power control (it gives you better options for brightness, screen timeout, sound, camera flash, and indicator colors). The one preinstalled app that would be the most helpful, titanium backup, seems to be missing from all the ROMs that I've checked out so far(Harmonia,Bumblebee,Reborn,aospCM7)It might take a while to set it up and then see what kind of performance and battery life I'm getting, but I'll edit when that happens.I'll also dig around to see if I can figure out how to put up a screen shot of the ROM.

This ROM seems to be a pretty good jazzed up stockish ROM with a cool theme and app draw.Preinstalled apps in the top under applications, and anything downloaded, in the Downloads section(makes it easier to tell the difference from preinstalled and downloaded apps). The Virgin Mobile apps were left out(YEEH Haw!),but the google apps were retained.I forgot to mention the pulldown has a widget dock with 6 widgets. GPS/Wifi/Blue Tooth/Brightness/sound modes/and one I can't figure out.A stockish looking app dock at the bottom with the center icon used to open and close the app draw. I did manage to replace the stock browser icon by quarantining it and rebooting then putting the Skyfire icon in it's place(I loose it every time I reboot though)Battery time off charger seem to be a little better than stock. And you can safely overclock to 730MHz. All in All if your looking for a stock ROM with a lot of the goodies and a cool theme, with the bloatware removed, this would be a good choice. I think next I'm going to try out the Mobius ROM.

I have only tried 3 roms as late; Bumblebee, Harmonia and AOSP.

By far I like AOSP for its customability. I am currently loaded up with about 90 apps and I still have 84 megs left. I also have it stuffed with a lot of high memory usage apps, and I use it hard all day long. I get about 6 hours to a charge. I also have the CPU set to and stable at 825 MHz.

The only real problem I have is that the Bluetooth is, a little wonkey. The BT mic don't seem to work.

I use AOSP simply because of the customization of the ROM. I drive truck all day so I'm in and out of service area so I only get about 5-6 hour battery time before I have to plug it in. I first tried Zefies cm7 ROM and loved it. I think it's still a great ROM especially for noobies flashing their V for the first time. It's fast, stable but unfortunately outdated and no longer being developed. To me anyways, flashing Zefies has a smaller customization learning curve than AOSP's that way your not overwelmed with customization info. Heck, I'm still learning new customizations!!
Heard great things about the Reborn ROM, but as far as I'm aware it's only for the 'S'. And the theme looks really cool. Thanks Andyopie150 for working on it!!

where can i find the AOSP rom? it says rom manager but does not show up? can someone upload it to something like mega upload or something? little help here thanks.

I am now installing the Mobius ROM will give a 'Nuub's" perspective on the things I experience with it.EDIT: After install of ROM everything was super slow and choppy. Went back to recovery and rewiped and format. Then reinstalled ROM. SD card format took about 2-3 minutes, rest of system, another minute or so. Still slow and choppy, but not as bad. No 3g, kept droping wifi, market slow(downloaded "Set CPU" and overclocked to 768-480),touch screen sensitivity really bad. Rebooted. Touchscreen fixed, wifi fixed, still no 3g,ROM(kernel)seemed a lot smoother, market still a little slow(market looked like a Gingerbread theme), Rebooted again. Market seemed normal,no 3g. Downloaded from my apps section of the market "Extended Controls"(worth every penny). Created Auto-lock widget, and deactivated it(no annoying screen lock to deal with while trying to set up apps).Created WiFi widget, and created Data Network widget.Turned off WiFi,tried to turn on Data Network-no go.Turned WiFi back on. Went to app draw and clicked on Activate app. Did it's thing,Data Network icon in task bar. Rebooted. Everything appears to be functional. Only have 29 apps installed(including the minimal apps that were preinstalled). Down to 131MB all ready.Phone only total is only 7.08MB. Went back to recovery and wiped Dalvik Cache. Rebooted. Now at 133.39MB. That was a lot of work for a ROM that doesn't come close to Harmonia as far as app space. And I had to overclock it to get it to be almost as smooth on the screen(page) transition as Harmonia(I had Harmonia clocked at 600Hz and was smoother). Overclocked to 806-480 and it is now as smooth as Harmonia, seems to be stable(I'll move a few apps with "App Swap" to see how stable). It didn't fail with the app swap test. Now I'll download "Angry Birds" see how that acts. It just rebooted on it's own while dowloading Angry Birds. I went back down to 768-480. Angry Birds installed ok. Wow! Angry Birds is super smooth and snappy. I'll charge it to 100% then find out how long before it gets below 20%.

Curiosity got the better of me and I reinstalled my backup of Harmonia 1.3. Put set cpu to 768MHz-480Hz,opened up Angry Birds and it was not anywhere near as smooth and snappy as Angry Birds on Mobius Rom at 768MHz-480MHz. As a matter of fact it was still a little slow and choppy. Hmmm. Mobius could be a pretty good gaming ROM. I guess I'm going to have to try and compare Bumblebee with Mobius for gaming smoothness and snapieness with Angry Birds. What have I gotten myself into?

Installed Bumblebee ROM. Overclocked to 768MHz-480MHz, downloaded and installed Angry Birds. Played it and it seemed a shade laggy compared to the Mobius ROM. Rebooted, played it again, no change. Rebooted one more time, played it,it was a little better. I now can't tell the difference in performance between the Mobius and the Bumblebee. The only difference, other than a preinstalled app or two, is the theme. Edit: the amount of app space seems to be way better on the Bumblebee. Now to tackle the new (ROM-ish) OV Port of ath3nos's Unofficial CM7 (Gingerbread) 7/12

Mobius is one of the best ROMs created for the OV, but it is also on of the ROMs that is no longer supported by the dev that created it. :(
that is a very, very good point, as well. No support means no fixes to problems,or overall performance tweaks.

Ath3nos's CM7 is pretty good. IMO better than aosp's by far. I have noticed a little bit of lag however which is a downfall.

I checked it out real quick like and found that the Bluetooth is still broke, and the headset(plugin for the headset) can be a little buggy,I need both to work as I use my "V" in my car more than anywhere else. I'll give it a more through examination this weekend.

You can expect fixes for the ath3nos ROM to continue to roll out. While it is being called ath3nos, it is actually beind built off blarfiejandro's repository. Blarfie is a very smart dev, and he is working on creating a single stable release that can be built for all models of the Optimus line. The latest release (7/15) has a couple of changes to the audio and camera code. I imagine he will be the first to figure out the bluetooth issues with the CM7 ROMs for the Optimus V.

Maybe I should wait until the update comes out, then try that one. I like the fact that someone now is looking to improve an almost stellar ROM. From what I saw of it it has some amazing potential.

It's getting better a little at a time. The headset stays connected, but there are little volume spikes(pops) every now and then that can be annoying, The bluetooth is still borked, The gallery doesn't show all my pictures, there's holes were they should be(their there, you just can't see the image), And you can't use Launcher Pro with 7 screens(I like my pictures) it crashes on the next reboot and doesn't make it past the boot animation. But I'm sure this Dev will try his best(doesn't even get paid)to fix all the issues. I just haven't figured out how to get him this info on the site he directs you to.( I hate being a "Nuub" sometimes)
