Root Which Rom Please

bishy

Newbie
Hi All,

Could one of the experienced members (yes, I'm looking at you Dan and Rasta!!!) please recommend a list of roms for me which has a2sd (for use with an ext3 partition) and most importantly does not have the 3 second answering delay.

I am currently using EddyOS's 'superduperawesome' rom which is great but even this seems to suffer from the problem.

I seem to notice it most when using the headset (used most of the time) and once noticed, it becomes very annoying.

Thanks very much for all your help it is appreciated.

Speak to you soon.

bishy.

Hi Hadron, which froyo rom with sense and without sense would you recommend?.........Thanks for the help so far.

Hi shauny13, I'm not too fussed either way, I would just like an A2SD rom that all works and is stable..........Thanks for replying........What do you think?

bishy.

Pretty much all ROM's work with A2SD + an ext 3 partition. Only a very rare few are data 2 ext only...

The common ones:

- Leedroid
- Leedroid GB
- GingerVillain
- Oxygen
- Redux
- CM7
- Miui

... ^^ will all work with an ext 3 partition and A2SD :)

As for the 2 second delay, no idea. The 2 seconds really doesn't bother me, so never really paid attention to if it was fixed.

Without Sense I used to use DeFroST. The development of it is frozen, as Richard has shifted to GB now (GingerVillain), but it's still a very good ROM. I found 6.1a (the final version) fine, but some found 6.1 better. See the XDA thread, or else look at xda.richardtrip.org for a complete history of versions.

Really not the person to ask about Sense ROMs. I used teppic74's rooted stock ROM for a few months (so very much stock except rooted and with some optional mods), then just gave up on Sense. I ran LeeDroid for about 1 hour, and haven't tried any of the other customised Sense ROMs at all.

I found LeeDroid very good, if I was still using a Sense ROM it's what I'd use.
Now I only use Gingerbread I find Redux to be the smoothest, most stable and best battery.

currently all 2.3 roms have the 2 second delay including the leaked official rom
this can be fixed in kernels and richard trip did fix it on one of his GB kernels but since then it has come back.

so atm the only ones available that fixes the 2second delay is froyo roms

Hi Rasta and all others,

Thanks for all of your help..........Rasta, which rom (Sense and Non-Sense) would you recommend that I use.

Thanks again to everybody that has helped.

i have used cyanogen which was laggy, then i tried leedroid which i didnt really take to, then Gingervillian 2.2 for a good few months and now i have been using Redux 1.2, and to be fair i find gv and redux similar but gv is a little more polished. in Redux though i haven't noticed the connection lag as much as i did with GV, to be honest just reading this made be remember that gv had the lag, and it hasn't been an issue at all with redux! not sure if anyone else has much lag with redux but i haven't actually noticed it at all, if it does lag then its only for a very very miniscule amount of time. so i recommend trying redux and see what you think, and i promise once you have been with a non sense rom for a few days you wont miss it at all.
Good luck finding your rom and remember that now your rooted you can try them all :)

The one lag I've noticed in Redux (currently testing - I know I've not updated my sig!) is in the ringer: for some reason it vibrates for a few seconds before it starts ringing. If this is deliberate that's fine (I used to set my old RAZR to do that), but I've not been able to find an actual setting that controls this. Or is this just my phone?

Non-Sense ROMs are my favorites, because they are light and fast.
Redux, GV, Oxygen, CM - they all support A2SD+.

I don't think it can really be made as simple as which one ROM to recommend. It really depends on what you need and want. However, some excel at certain things more than others, so consider the below.

For battery - Redux (Stock Gingerbread AOSP)
For customisation - Miui
For a really nice, stable and fast ROM with good customisation and tweaks - Gingervillain.

But then I'm no longer a fan of sense?

What I'm trying to say is, I think its best to narrow it down to what you want first, and then ask for recommendations. They are all good at different things, so one persons recommendation might be another's pet hate. What do you most want / need? ;)

Edit: And as you can see from the above posts, already you have about 10 different "recommendations".

Hi WilliamJ1,

Thanks for all the help so far.........I think i can do without sense, as I can create all my widgets/desktops etc. with Launcher Pro Plus...........I am not a particularly heavy user (no friends also!!!) so while good battery life would be useful, it is not a priority........I would like a rom without the answering delay (although if it is very short, it would not be a problem)..............I would also like everything to work (i.e. camera, video and all those other things that seem to crop up regularly).........I tried Miui for a while and it seemed o.k. but a bit slow and unresponsive. Now I am unsure what to try, I am tempted to try Redux, as a lot of guys on here seem to get on with it, but the answer delay puts me off a bit and now there seems to be an issue about late ringer starting.

Sorry to be fussy and ramble on, but I have tried my best to be honest about what I would like.

Thanks again to everyone who is helping.

Well I do seem to be the only person who's noticed the delayed ring with Redux, so it could just be something I've done!

Call answer delays with GB ROMs seem to be a bit variable. How much is because different people's phones behave differently, and how much because different people notice it more, I'm not sure. I've occasionally noticed it, but it's never been a big deal for me.

I dont have any call delays with ReDux 1.2, no bugs at all really. wicked battery life and super fast.

if you can put up with a 2 second delay when answering calls then i would recommend Gingervillian, the only thing GV doesn't have is 720p video recording, redux is probably very similar in speed with a little less customisation, but as i say i havent noticed the answer delay in redux. try them both and see what you think, just remember to make a nandroid backup of your current rom, the wipe and install one have a play, wipe install the other see what you think and try it for a few days, dont forget to get titanium backup to save all your apps but remember to only install missing apps and data when doing a restore.

there is a 2 second delay with redux 1.2
ive just restored my backup, phoned my work phone and tested it
when the call comes in and you pick up you have about 1.5-2secs before you can hear on the other side.

its a GB kernel issue

that said i use GV and no one notices my delay other than me and its only at the start of the call
