Who has an official 2.3.4 firmware update via Kies?

Hello guys
I opened Samsung Kies and followed the instructions and completed the update.. the phone restarted.. but when i opened it later to check for the android version i found out it was still 2.3.3
while on PC, Samsung Kies says i have the latest version
PDA:KH1 / Phone:KG5 / CSC:KH1(XSG)
i'm in Egypt and the phone is not locked to any service provider.
so why is it still showing 2.3.3? was it updated successfully?

There has been no more recent update released for that CSC (XSG).
If it did the PDA/PHONE/CSC version codes will have changed. Can you recall what they were originally?
I'm on Orange and just done an update too via KIES but it says it is still on 2.3.3.
However, if I mute the phone or turn down system vol, the camera snap sound is muted also. Wasn't before. I'm looking for other differences but can't find any yet. I'll see what the battery usage is like over the next few days.

I called Orange today (who called samsung for me) and they reckon alot of people wont get 2.3.4 until the 23rd of this month, me included.

As far as I know the appearance was taken away in one of the minor 2.3.3 updates, I had it on my 1st S2 but after getting a replacement it was updated further and there was no option to change the appearance.
I just got back from holidays and thought I would check on my o2 sim free (phones 4 U) for updates and 1st there was one for Kies, did that, then there was one for 2.3.4 through the new version of kies, all is running fine
Not noticed too many changes TBH.
Virgin responded: no update is in the works.

I updated to 2.3.4 the other day (Tuesday I think), Now states build number :XWKI4
The battery does last a bit longer, I have however noticed that the phone in general is seems a bit stuttery and not as smooth when sliding between screens. There is also a bit of a lag when exiting apps, most noticed when coming out of the Email app.
I have also had problems with my Polaris Office, however this is now sorted (by clearing the data cache), however some other apps tend to crash or lock up. Flik Golf for one always locks up and requires a re-boot.
Also found that Google market is a bit slow at loading in.
So as you can see I'm not too impressed so far with the update. Lets hope 2.3.5 is out soon and makes it a lot better.

Just to following up on the new firmware. I have an unbranded phone, with a Orange contract. So I'm now running Gingerbread 2.3.4. At 1st I thought great, but now, I'm not too happy.
Along with the whole not opening xl files (but I might do the clearing of the cache as stated to check that), but I've also noticed that viewing videos is no longer in Landscape mode, but in potrait and there is no option to change it or set as a default, of course unless you set it to Auto Rotate, but thats annoying. And messaging in whatsapp/txt message is the most frustrating, when you want to start a new message from the last one, it picks up the last word from the message and then it keeps repeating it when you try to delete it, you have to literally highlight the whole content and then re-type over it.
This update seems like its gone backwards!!

Hi guys, new to Android as I have only had my S2 for two weeks now. I bought the phone as an unlocked phone (no bloatware!) and activated it on Canada's Rogers network. I noticed Kies upgraded it to 2.3.4 the first time I plugged it in. Since the S2 is not a phone Rogers carries, I assume the carrier has nothing to do with what version Kies presents to you. Anyone know where the upgrade servers are located?

So is The consensus is that the carriers control the firmware updates?
If the network carrier uses a customised (branded) firmware, then yes. It's up to the networks whether or not they supply an update.
Any updated firmware will be made available to them by the device manufacturer, and then customised and tested by the network before being sent back to the manufacturer for release to their customers via their specific update mechanisms e.g. PC software and/or OTA.
At least that was the procedure according to an HTC contact I spoke to some time ago.
I'm facing a little issue with the Kies software for my SGS2.
The software perfectly recognizes my phone but, under its Firmware upgrade settings my phone is not detected. So I'm unable to upgrade my phone's firmware.
And in India OTA update is currently not supported by Samsung(as told to me by the Samsung technical support).
Also they couldn't provide any resolution to my Kies software problem too.
Please help!

Samsung has no plans to launch any updates beyond 2.3.3 in India hence users here are struggling like anything. Kies is just one damn software which does not do anything right but still you are forced to use that.
Anyway, I downloaded KI3-2.3.5 from XDA and manually updated it through ODIN. What I want to check is since those ROMs are general for any Android phone, do we have official ROM for S2 for 2.3.4 or beyond? If yes, please point me to that and I would like to give it a shot to fix my problem (details @ http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/433052-screen-lock-delay-galaxy-s2.html).

I have been searching for this for 2 months now and checked all forums including XDA. All users are cursing Samsung like anything hence my anger.
Can you point me to the link? I tried several times but failed to get any update beyond 2.3.3.

Kies does not list my phone under automatic firmware updates either.
I read that some people have used Kies MINI and updated their firmware.Well i'm going to contact my service provider(Bell) and find out what is happening with firmware updates.
