IME, this can be said about literally everyone not completely geeked out and into tech. Statistically though, I think you are right. We tend to see fewer geek girls than guys.

To be honest, I am sort of in the middle. I don't mind working to get the results myself, but on the other hand I don't feel like I should HAVE to (another thing I think those who have seen me around know I am passionate about LOL).
 
Doh - misspoke, intended - isn't the point of this tech the results?

Otherwise, we could just carry some really cool chips in our pockets - just the chips.

"Oh yeah! I've a new Intel processor, right here, new in the box! Blows that SoC away, if it were in a computer somewhere!"

Like that - without results, what we might carry has no meaning, imo.
 
Ah, right on. I was merely commenting about what you said regarding what women want from their devices. Was just saying that I think you got it spot on, except that I would say the general populous wants this, not just women. :)
 
Cant decide.it's either the Evo 3d or the sensation.
3d is fun.but not really a must have.
Now if the UI was 3d.that would be different.
 
I WAS going to get it as I have had my Evo 4G since day one, but I found out its launching with 2.3.3 :rolleyes: 2.4 is already out and running on 2 year old Nexus Ones while my "flagship" phone still sits on 2.2 and the Evo 3D will still be outdated when its released. I have been palying this game with Sprint since launch of the Hero. Will my new phone get the new update and if so when? By the time you do get it, there are already 2 newer updates out, I am over it. I would much rather have slightly outdated hardware than outdated software, so I ordered the Nexus S 4G today.

Yes, thats what I meant. The newest version running video chat in GV. Either way, Ice Cream Sandwich is being unveiled at I/O which is less than a week away. I am sure that will be out for the Nexus before the Evo 3D is even released with 2.3.3 meaning it will already be 2 updates behind at launch.

Unfortunately, probably true. I know that 2.3.4 added video chat...but not sure if there was anything else? I'm sure there will be a number of changes in ICS though...so kind of a bummer. I guess I'm a bit skeptical about ICS being out right away. I know there's buzz that Google will be showing it off, but I haven't heard anything about it being an imminent release to Nexus devices.

Slightly OT, I've heard that 2.4 may be released still as Gingerbread, not Ice Cream Sammich, kind of like when Eclair was 2.0 and 2.1 iirc.

Being out right away? Well you have to remember that Gingerbread has been out since Nov, so about 6 months now. Just because the carriers have taken their sweet ass time with it as usual and havent updated to it doesnt mean Google is going to slow down their updates. If ICS really comes out in June as rumored and people havent even had Gingerbread, there will be alot of pissed of Android users. As I said, I am tired of the waiting game and would much rather have a phone like the Nexus S 4G where I know my phone will always be supported and get the updates as soon as they are released. Thats far more important to me than taking 3D photos or having a dual core processor...

I just wonder how much updates matter to the general public as opposed to us Android fanatics. I think we'll know based on well Nexus S sells. If phones with UI overlays are so behind and people migrate to Nexus en masse, then I think we'll see better update times (or even a revamp on how inflexible overlays are coded).
 
Can never beat the current Nexus for updates, that's just the way it is.

Released in December, Gingerbread had initial defects and growing pains; the Nexus One had to wait a few months for it. I believe only the DX has gotten it officially besides those two in the US.

When Google first discussed Ice Cream Sandwich publicly they set a Q4 expectation.

We'll know next week, perhaps.

Good question. I think if people start seeing things advertised on TV or something on their friends phone and then ask why their phone cant do the same thing (GV chat for example) then it may become an issue. I was a big fan of Sense on my Hero but then found Launcher Pro nearly a year ago and its been on my Evo ever since. So to people like me, the new version of Sense looks cool and all but in reality its just another battery killing piece of eye candy. The more in depth the UI's get, the longer its going to take for the carriers to push updates and thats not a good thing at all unless you like to root and ROM.

GB is the first vanilla I thought was competitive to the manufacturer's overlay. Now I run a non-Sense ROM full time. Definitely much smoother operation without much tweaking. I'll give Sense 3.0 a good workout before I consider a vanilla ice cream sandwich. Plus I don't like running on a custom AOSP ROM until all features are fully functional, so I'll probably stick with rooted stock for a long while, just like I did with Evo.
 
Sense 3.0 looks interesting and I'll certainly give it a try for a while, but once a fully/mostly functional AOSP option is available, I'll likely switch.

No use in not keeping a back-up on sense just in case though.

Updates vs features...

The only reason to get a Nexus S over an Evo 3D is if a person is completely enamored with the idea of Google updates. It's a valid issue because waiting for freaking updates absolutely sucks.

At the same time, with the Evo3D you have dual core, high res screen, HDMI, HD recording, more memory, bigger screen, highly improved and gorgeous looking sense 3.0...and obviously a 3D multimedia experience.

If the Evo3D got updates as fast as the Nexus S, it would be a no brainer. The Evo3D specs and features rape the Nexus S.

However, if Google drops Ice Cream next week and it's the great fusion of phone and Honeycomb UI and functionality, it might be worth getting the Nexus S instead. Though, if Google intends to wait till December for Ice Cream, I'd probably get the Evo3D instead, and just wait for Sprint to get the next version of the Nexus line in 2012.

A big part of what phone I will get will be decided after Google IO.
 
Interesting points. I wonder if I can get my wife sold on the Nexus S. She's currently holding out for the iPhone5 (coming from an iPhone 3G). She's already said she doesn't like my Evo because of its size, so by extension she won't like the Evo 3D. But while Nexus might be large as well, it might be sexier than the Evo, and how can you turn down Ice Cream... Definitely something I'll have her try out. Then we can finally be on the same carrier.

Only reason? Not really. Many people dont want a 4.3 inch phone, my Evo is great but feels like a brick in my pants haha. The Nexus is smaller and lighter. Super AMOLED display kills a QFT display. Many people dont want a UI like Sense or bloatware from Sprint....there are several reasons someone might choose the Nexus over the 3D. Also, dont discount the Hummingbird processor. Althought is only single core, I bet its just as fast or within a tenth of a second of the dual core in the 3D. Its arguably the best processor out there.

I've always liked the size and weight of the EVO...felt sturdy and just right in my hands and pocket since the first day. And, prior to that I only used an iPhone day to day. Never understood the "brick" adjective tied to it...
 
I honestly feel that my current Touch Pro 2 is more brick-like than an Evo. I know it's not as tall or wide, but it's so much thicker that it gives it that feel.

Regardless, planning on getting one. I wish they'd hurry up with the release date (hoping that naming the band thing is it), since it appears the Sensation will be out on the 17th (guaranteed shipping by the 19th!) in Europe. I (apparently stupidly) always assumed that the 3D would be out before, or at least at the same time the Sensation shipped.

Just for posterity - the DX GB so far has been leaked, today the DHD and the Incredible S (Europe) started their update.

It's an individual personal preference. 4 to 4.3 is not much of a significant to not want a phone. Now if you want the pure Google experience, I can see why some would prefer the nexus s.

And just as many want a 4.3 or even a little larger.
