Root Wifi connection problem on new Gingerbread

I have a rooted HTC evo and just upgraded to Gingerbread through the instructions on this forum. Thank you everybody for the details.

Overall, it has worked wonderfully and I am very happy. However, I have noticed one problem that is causing me major headaches.

Before upgrading, I could easily connect to wifi at home and work. However, after upgrading to Gingerbread on Sunday and then updating the radios per the additional instructions that many had recommended, I am still able to access my wifi at home (Apple), but not my work (Linksys E3000).

When it tries to login at work, it just shows "connecting" but then never connects. I tried to forget the connection and then re-enter it, but it did not work either. Even tried to turn off WPA security and SSID hiding, but it still wouldn't connect. Of note, I have no MAC restrictions set.

I didn't make any other changes, which makes me think it was either the upgrade to Gingerbread or the radios. Has anybody else seen this and does anybody else know the solution?

Thanks,

Sailguy

have you tried a reboot? perhaps go into recovery and clear the cache and dalvik and give 'er a whirl

Thanks for responding. I tried clearing both in recovery and rebooted. Still didn't work. Tried going back into recovery and clearing both x 2 and rebooted, but still no go.

Weird that my Apple wifi at home works fine but the Linksys E3000 won't connect.

Any other ideas? Could it have to do with the radio update I did after Gingerbread?

Thanks in advance.

I have seen a few posts that wireless n was left out...are any of these routers wireless n routers?

I have also read a few others that had this issue rebooted the router and all worked fine afterwards.

I believe the router is wireless N.

Before I updated to Gingerbread, I was able to use wireless N. Did gingerbread not include wireless N or did the radio update that I did afterward that has been recommended on here not include it.

Is there a way to fix this other than changing my router to accept G?

Thanks again.

I recall seeing in the non root gb posts that the n support was left out..but I wasn't really paying attention. I will see what I can find out

I am having the same identical problem with my evo. Ever since I rooted it,It will not connect to my home wifi. When I go to work or to school, I connect to those networks with no problems. I rebooted the router,Didnt add any security to it(no WAP1 or 2),even changed the channels. Whenever I do attempt to us the wifi at home it says"Connecting" and never does what it says. Help me out Please this has been going on two months or better...

Are you running the stock rom or did you flash a rom after rooting?

I changed the router to allow for both wireless N and wireless G, which instantly solved my problem. Thank you!

I'll try to report back shortly when I have a chance to try the other kernal mentioned that has the wireless N fix. Fingers crossed.

If you go here: [ROM][STOCK] --- Version 4.22.651.2 --- Odexed & De-Odexed --- - xda-developers under the "extras" is a version of the Kernel with the wifi 'n' fix. Flash that and you should be all set.

I switched my router back to wireless N only (without G or B) and completed the fix above with the new kernal. I used my Mac and had to rename the file by adding ".zip" but otherwise instructions and update were both easy and quick.

I can report it is successful and I'm back running in wireless N only now.

Thanks!

Having a similar problem. Since upgrading my rooted EVO to the special GB build, my wifi is wonky. It connects to wi-fi, disconnects and re-connects, over and over. 3G kicks in in between.

I tried some of the suggestions: switched router from N to G; this seemingly made the connection period longer, but issue still exists.

Any pointers? I flashed updated radios, BTW. That didn't help either.

I am quite willing to try the kernel listed above, but I wanted to run the issue by ou guys. Any pointers are appreciated! :)

i would try flashing a different rom. try the synergy r2 or mikg2.4 roms. they have tweaks for wifi. and unfortunately we do not have any custome gingerbread sense kernels yet. we have to wait for htc to release the source code for them. not sure why the hold out with htc.

Always tey wiping dalvik and cache first.. Then a new rom
If you are in love with that rom.. Try a hard reset on the router...then the rom
i highly suggest synergy if you go the new rom route.

So... it looks like my initial diagnosis was wrong. Seems the router at home has issues. For some reason, it is dropping connections only to my EVO, because I flashed Synergy and was still having issues with connectivity on my EVO. Every other device (two other Android devices, two laptops, Wii) seem to be connect and retain connectivity.

At work, the EVO seems to work perfectly with wi-fi, so go figure.

Still, I LOVE Synergy. Oh my goodness... it's fantastic. Makes the whole debacle well worth it. Thanks a million for suggesting it!

Now if anyone can clue me in as to why a Cisco router would have issues with just one device, I am all ears...

You might check and see if there is an update for your router. I believe there are updates on them here and there. I think mine here at work is in need as my laptop drops connection alot but my Evo does not.....go figure :)

Definitely worth a shot... I appreciate the pointer. :)
