lol, I probably didn't specify./facedesk.
I thought you were talking about on Win 8/10.
Yeah, Win+X did that on Win7.
Haven't tried in on 10 yet. Haven't been on my PC since posting here. And I really never used Win 8

. I have to think that the issue is that both of these machines are running Win7 on SSD's. The Desktop was cloned from a spinning disk and the laptop was a fresh install of Win 7 Pro (retail copy) and Mint 17.
While I wouldn't mind upgrading these, too, I don't think i'm going to waste my time or bandwidth on multiple attempts.
I upgraded successfully from 8.1 -> 10 on two computers using SSDs, FWIW. In each case, 8.1 was installed on the SSD, not cloned onto it. (I did try cloning on one, but figuring out how to tell it to boot from the right drive was proving difficult and I gave up it in the end).
Also, if you're worried about bandwidth, you can download the files with this tool and make a regular bootable USB/DVD. I was doing the rounds on updating my family's computers last week and it was a big help.
done and done...ive read there might be other updates that need to be uninstalled for privacy concerns or is that the only one i should get rid of? also wondering if you know anyway to get rid of that annoying get windows 10 icon in my status bar?10 minus 3035583 equals 7.
That is, to keep your Win7 from being forced into Win10, uninstall update KB3035583, then hide it.
yeah i dont know hopefully there arent others and i just didnt read whatever it was i had read closely enough...so it eliminates the nagware but the "get 10 win" icon in the notifcation bar remains? is there no way to get rid of that?I don't know about the others you speak of, just that this one eliminates the nagware. It acts like good old Win7 this way, but it might be pilfering data. Then again, it might have been doing that since I was a little boy...

sticking with 7 (laptop) and xp (desktop)...maybe one day if windows releases an os that isnt garbage ill upgrade
Win 7 had the Win 10 upgrade nag, and I removed it. But that computer is starting to become rather icky now, the glue that holds the screen together is starting to breakdown and ooze out..yuck!
No, in my case at least, uninstalling that 'update' removed every trace of Win10 from my Win7 system.
I find it sad that, after waiting years for the next Windows to appear and replace Win8, I am now telling people how to get rid of it – can't believe I'm actually saying this. Using backups/restores, I've tried 10 a dozen times and am always relieved to go back to 7. But I'm sure if I had Win8.x installed, I'd be very happy with Win10.
The Windows systems I use at the moment, the school Lenovo all-in-one desktop is XP, A Fujitsu UH900 UMPC is Win 7 had the Win 10 upgrade nag, and I removed it. But that computer is starting to become rather icky now, the glue that holds the screen together is starting to breakdown and ooze out..yuck! Also my new Ramos tablet which came with 8.1, but upgraded to 10, and that's great.
Oh yeh, and the classroom podium teachers' computers I use everyday are Win 7, but the Donview electronic whiteboard large-screen systems they drive are actually Android
That proves that Windows 10 is a bad thing, huh.
...you are saying that the "get win 10" icon disappeared when you got rid of that update?
