Root [WIP][DEV] Custom Recovery/Bootloader unlocking Work In Progress Thread

Interesting. I hadn't heard of that happening in so long that I thought it was a way of the past. Lol

way of teh past? its more common place now than ever. want that awesome new verizon android phone? dont wnat verizon? flash it to metro/boost/virgin etc.

with teh rise of lte however its been a bit more annoying since all you could get is 3g. but sprint wimax phones to boost/virgin and use their wimax happens all the time

perhaps off topic but the Optimus G(which had a locked bootloader as well) now has custom recovery.....Im looking into it.....has anyone figured out how to get into fastboot on the Motion? edit: ok so its not "installed" on the G but it boots it, the guys on the Optimus G forums on XDA still believe this is good because it should help with unlocking the boot loader, we shall see how they do and could possibly work for us and anyone else with a locked boot loader from LG, fingers crossed.
Apparently to enter fast boot on our phones we have to erase the recovery partition. Making and restoring backups work as well, just cant flash custom ROMS.

Gah! I wish it were that simple. ...Anyways, i though the Nexus line was always supposed to be unlocked.
Lmao I didn't really look at the steps but they didn't really try hard to lock the bootloader its already been unlocked but the phone gonna be released on tuesday

Oh, I just read into it. Apparently all the nexus phones were like that.. they shipped locked, but all needed to do was that simple procedure to unlock them.
But we can't even get into fastboot or the bootloader..

To get into fastboot you have to delete the recovery partition.

Theres more to it than that, there is a tethered recovery out for the optimus G which basically means you can boot into the custom recovery but cant install it but you can make backups and restore, but cant install custom ROMS but it is a step forward in installing a new bootloader or cracking the current one.

Sounds pretty cool. I just read that. Its interesting how he created it. Though, " the boot.img file needs to be flashed via fastboot" from a computer every time they run it. It's a start, and much better than nothing.

Ya, would be nice to be able to flash custom stuff from the recovery but could be a pain in the ass if you are a flashoholic

Haha. Before I bought the Motion, I had an Optimus M. It was plagued with a hardware issue where it would reboot like 5-10 times a day (randomly). LG took about 6 months before they pushed any update for that issue, and even then, all I could flash was a stockish rom. ...not even CM. oh well. I'd like to flash something on here, but I know that won't be for a while.

ICS is great by itself (and much, much better than CM 7, or whatever was on the OM) but there was one that I would have liked to try, it was an MIUI port. I'm into minimalism themes. The Galaxy Nexus stock ics had a theme sort of like that, but I'd rather have customization than copy ( or simply to use the t-mobile/CM theme choosers). :D

The fun isn't in simply having a cool looking phone/theme. It's being able to do more than that. I actually like working on stuff like this, and I was kinda disappointed that I wasn't able to do much last time. That's why I'm trying again here..
