Root [WIP][DEV] Custom Recovery/Bootloader unlocking Work In Progress Thread

well getting an unlocked boot loader is not looking promising

2nd init / recovery strap is still possible

Shabby has said when he gets an LGM in January, he make take a stab at it.

I may look into it again too, but I am pretty busy, so I can not promise anything

You've done plenty and were grateful. Thanks for all your work.:D

sorry it couldnt be sooner :(

no pressure, but if you don't get this working, we're all going to drink this poisoned koolaid ;)

lol im fairly confident i can get most of it working, im hoping i can work on that pesky not booting issue as not many people are gunna wanna use cwm if they have to revert back to stock after flashing something :P

Why is it only on you? You must be the man with the plan...Lol if I had some knowledge I'd help. At the very least I would love to test. I'm willing to brick a phone or two. Can't say it's never happened lol.

its not a matter of finding testers as im sure there are plenty, compiling teh apk to test some changes hoppefully getting logs or clear and acturate wtf went wrong so i can try something else in the code, recompile it and upload wait for another tester etc. its all very slow of a process and can be frustrating. im getting this phone ill od it then obviously this is an open community etc and anyone is more than welcome to do it before. ive done work on devices i dont own before and it sucks. but i do want to thank you for your offer :)

So we have confirmed the lg regard to have a locked boot loader? If so I maybe setting the s3 in my sights

Oh yeah. Same problem. But it may be better cost effective to wait before putting that kind of money into the sg3. Not a good investment imo. I'm convinced this phone will be unlocked, just a matter of when.

dude...you can buy a laptop that is better than the S3 for cheaper than then S3...or a Tablet for that matter...why the hell would you spend $400-$500 for a phone?...it makes no sense...if you have that kind of disposable income, go join a larger network and then you'll get the phone for cheaper but pay more per month

actually when i switch to metro ill be saving money (about a hundred per month) and i plan on upgrading to the sgs3 asap. metropcs has teh cheapest sgs3 afaik. if i wanted to pick up a sgs3 on sprint id have to pay 200ish to get the device plus since i have 6 months until my upgrade id pay 90 bucks. you are talking about 300 bucks plus a massive monthly bill so picking it up on metro makes financial sense.

now of course you could not get it and save even more money, except its the device i want. coming from the galaxy nexus to the motion is gunna be a haard pill to swallow as it is. i have a desktop (im a stay at home dad) so buying an additional computer would be pointless IMO as i have a much more powerful one a few feet from me.

why not a tablet? i had a xoom once, its great to have such a big screen and great for reading but its heavy and rather cumbersome and doesnt fit well in a pocket. which means when i leave the house to go somewhere i have to carry it around in a bag. with having the sgs3 its a bit overkill by all counts but it means i have a fast device, unlocked bootloader, a big screen and SAMOLED (this is a HUGE perk IMO) so if im in the grocery store i can pull my phone out of my pocket and have a nice device on me at all times (even the lavatory angry birds*)

so for me a nice phone fits teh bill so i dont need to use a laptop/tablet. which is great, rather than dropping 250 bucks on a tablet and 150-200 on a mid teir phone you can pay for just one device. (dont get me wrong im still getting the motion)

*I cant stand playing angry birds, wheres my water is by far better but didnt fit well in the toilet joke :O

You make a great point.
Tbh I wouldn't mind getting an s3, but by the time id have the $ for that, I'm sure they'd be at s4. Lol. (Or is it only apple that updates once a year?) That or some other device like the OG or N4.
Nevertheless, I want to hold onto this phone for 2+ years. ...I've had metro since march of 2010 and I'm on my 4th phone now. (Second Android, second price increase). xD at that rate, I wouldn't be able to pay college tuition.

Yea its not a tablet or laptop I'm after its a phone lol. Not to mention going from the optimus m to the motion how much nicer the bigger screen is. I can only imagine going to the s3 :-)

i also forgot to mention, the downside of a bootloader situation is when they release a actual software update, and root is blocked what then? hope someone roots the phone afterwards. with samsung due to odin (or any unlockable bootloader with htc/moto) you can just flash recovery and root every software version regardless.

so the device is always rootable and always will have recovery. its not just "locked" bootloaders mind you as teh connect 4g will face a similar threat, but if there is no fastboot/odin to flash partitions without root.

You can always downgrade the firmware ;)
