Root wireless tether DATA USAGE

ok, so i live in the san jose area and get great 4g speeds and connectivity, however, i notice that half way through my billing cycle, i've already gotten 50GB, now, should i slow down so i dont reach 100GB? or will verizon even care to look into it? thanks. :)

That's a lot of data consumption. I know plenty of heavy, heavy data users and they don't even come close to that on a full cycle, let alone half like you say.

Holy hell! Is this a joke?

maybe he means MB?

mr maybe he constantly listens to pandora and watches you tube while surfing the net? :D

x264 1080p movies are usually around 10-12 GB (or less). That's video good enough to watch on my 54" plasma. 100 GB is probably enough to stream 200 netflix movies.

100 GB in a month is about 300kbps continuously.

The most I've been able to rack up in a month is 25 GB if you are tethering and racking up use like that then vzw will look at what you are doing

lmao, no not a joke, was off by 5.somethingGB's, entirely serious, im a college student studying graphic design, so downloading programs, and multiple movies at a time, games, netflix, youtube, all that great stuff (:

so should i slow down?

so if they question, regarding if its from tether i can use the excuse that im using youtube or my android movie app that i paid for? :)

which btw guys, is the best movie app and was only $2 when i got it :)

I'd probably photo edit your pix, and block out your phone number

before i posted it i thought the same, but realized i have phone and txt blockers on my phone so if someone unknown is dumb enough to do it, i wont even see it, just like on any other social site i have its on there, but ya, theres ur proof :P

buuuut cuz u suggested it

I only asked for a pic cause I was talking with a old friend that was telling me today that his data usage was over 30 gb and he has no idea of even how to check it. it turned out he has roughly 2 1/2 gb of use for this month.
I knew it wouldn't be over 3 since he only pirated 2 our 3 movies

oh haha thats fine, and the "dumb-ass" isnt in anyway directed at u, just people that want the number lol, but ya thats a pretty big difference, ive downloaded, idk how many, maybe 30 movies, thats not even that much

30 movies in 15 days? That is quite much. I watch maybe 30 movies every two years. I think you are the heaviest downloader I have ever encountered. Not knocking you or anything--its just amazing!

Also, don't you get free wifi at school? I assume you are trying to save money by not having internet at home.

I've received a letter from an isp before for pirating a movie alerting me of the fines associated with pirating things. If Verizon wants they will look into what your bandwidth is being used on and if you are outside of the contract (terms of service) you signed they can end the contract with you so I would advise you to use caution and if you are going to jack up your data tethering to pay for the appropriate plan

i would agree with the above. for what its worth,i agree that data SHOULD be data, wether im tethering or watching a movie on my phone. but alas, verizon seems to think you need a seperate plan for tethering, and they can tell what youve been doing if they care to look deep enuff. for prolly 95% of us that just tether here and there and dont use more data than the rest of the non-rooted public theyll never care enuff to look.

youre usage may be enuff of a flag for them to look closer.

id slow it down for sure, and if they dont catch you this month, look for a wifi spot to do 99% of your downloading ;)

OP, I didn't want to be the first to say this, but you need to either pay for a plan or severely cut down on your usage. It's usage like yours that gives tethering a bad reputation among the service providers.

While I do agree data is data and any reasonable person would think how you use the data either via the phone or a CPU via tethering shouldn't matter, the fact of the matter is we have all signed contracts with VZW and in it the contract specifies that tethering is not allowed. Verizion has provided a very good tethering plan for most it's 4G users, unlimited 4G tethering for $30, and I will stand firm on my opinion that you should honor your contract with VZW. I think the OP is a good example of how good the tethering plan is, on 3G it would be near impossible to reach these limits but for $30 a month (on top of your current plan) you can have home internet as an extension of your mobile internet.

I sense a bit of negative tone in the comments. As long as you deal ethically with the terms of the contract--(pay your bills as agreed, etc.), there is nothing wrong with tethering--just be aware that the contact has terms that may allow Verizon to penalize you for this use.

(People often talk in ethical or moral terms when speaking about contracts. There is nothing wrong with breaking a contract--as long as you understand and accept the consequences. That's basically what contracts are--agreed to consequences. A contract cannot tell you what you can or cannot do--only the consequences of such actions. They cannot tell you that you cannot tether, but they can tell you they will charge you for it or terminate your access to the network if they determine that you are indeed tethering. There is no moral or ethical issue at hand...just actions and consequences.)

ya thanks for the advise guys, and my school does have free wifi however i live off campus with the school so wifi at home isnt an option, my roommates have 8mb at home but idk, i love my 12, but thanks, i wont however stop tethering, but i will slow down and use wifi as much as possible, and that tethering plan isnt a bad deal i agree, but just the fact that they slap a price on every little thing they can is absurd, however this is life and companies dont care, and im sure there are other tether users to greatly top what i do, but also seeing as that i have downloaded most programs that are needed, my data will slow down anyways, like i said thanks guy for the advise will slow down for all other 4g users :)
