Root Wireless Tether on GB.

Here is the error I got this morning. Never seen this before.

'What the hell!
Your phone takes back control over the wifi-interface.
Immediate tethering-shutdown NOW!'

I get the same one......I wonder if the phone is sending out a signal anytime tether is used...

Not sure if this an April Fools joke or not, but I just tried it. Started up WiFi Tethering, it connected, I did not have anything to connect to it, but left it on for a couple of minutes and then shut it down with no error messages.

No joke at all. It is being reported at MDW as well. What is strange is this message was not reported by anyone until last night and today. Could it be VZW is pushing out some sort of hidden changes to the tethering processes?

It is interesting that some people are having no issues, some are connecting and not getting internet, and some are having the VZW tether overrule everything.

I've been able to connect with Wireless Tether and Wifi Tether, I have not received any kind of message.

Here is the snapshot of mine, its no joke! I had enough GB,its just not ready, between the tether and no blue light for handcent, poor batt life, slow charge rate, bottom lights too bright, and 10 minutes to function after a reboot,I went back to rubix 2.0blur....I hope to comeback to GB soon...

As a note, the guys at MDW are looking at this hard. They hope to have a solution with an explanation of the problem soon.

Wow! Not good! The Wireless Tethering not working correctly is one thing keeping me from trying this pre-release of GB...going to stick with what is working right now for me, DarkSlide 4.2 on 2.2.1.

lol....wow thats crazy....
i may be flashing back to fis261 myself....i like it but its not that amazing and the wifi tether thing, amongst some others make me uncomfortable....thinking maybe waiting for some of the developers to play with it....

This is unsettling...

Any progress from anyone on the tethering? I reinstalled GB last night again, this time took extra time, wiped everything 4x,first,took the latesy fresh download, and its still the same,so im sbf back again...I wanted to make double sure the problem wasn't my install...I really love GB,hope this can be worked out.....and soon....

The day GB came out I tried the experimental wireless tether and it said that when I shut it down and that was a few days before april fools. so I just assumed the message was just a joke from the devs.

^ That was no joke. According to Mydroidworld, p3droid is writing an explanation. In the in short term, they recommend using tether carefully and at your own risk.

Feels like our rooted world is crumbling around us. They're systematically disabling our benefits to rooting. Start by locking down the bootloader so we're forced to run their kernels then they make their kernels features locked down.

I feel the same way. It's like yesterday everything was great. Lots of talk about the new gingerbread leak. Things were buzzing. Now after I get off work and check the website, I see posts about what p3droid said and what other members have written. It's like things are going to hell in one fell swoop. It makes me sad to see all of this. I love being a part of this community and hate to see such great resource go down the drain. I'm not smart enough about what goes on here to help much and have held back sometimes in fear of feeling like I hurt someone's cause rather than help but thankfully most of you don't follow that path. There are a lot of great minds here and I have been helped by many. I just hope it will continue.

I was running fine, mainly just test never really used it. It was nice to have and use the few times that I was in a jam. That being said I have went ahead and removed the tethering app from my phone.

Exactly how I used it..I have high speed wifi at home and work,so i do not need alot of data....however I like to know its there if I need it....I removed gingerbread,I dont see this issue being fixable at least for now...after reading p3droids post I now am very glad I sbfed off gingerbread.

You can still tether without a tethering plan from verizon, you just need to install the "experimental" wireless tether apk. It has a yellow icon instead of a green one, and works just fine.

I haven't used it for any longer than the ~30 seconds it took to make sure that it worked.

Im one of the few that got everything working. Before I would get the icon on my PC that I had internet access but it didn't work. I went to try it again and... ...it worked. The Wireless tether that is in the market works. I had downloaded the 3g patch before but couldn't get it to work before.

Yeah. Between the TBH "patch" and the wireless tether app you can tether just fine on GB.

Not that you should abuse it.
