Would you trade your Droid X for a Thunderbolt?

I have a Droid X and have been offered a trade for a Thunderbolt. I've looked it over and the TB seems to have no issues. I'm just afraid of the overheating issues its having since trading means I would have no warranty. Would you do it?
 
So this is just a straight up trade? You can always get insurance on it through a third party I believe if that is a concern. You would be upgrading to a phone that is 4G and about 6 months newer. I have heard the battery is not as good as the X's, but it is also unlocked so there is a little more you can do to it to make it run better. While I love my X, for a straight up trade to a 4G, newer phone I would have a hard time not making that trade.

No I'm throwing in some cash in the trade as well. What 3rd party would I be able to warranty it from? As my biggest fear of trades is that the phone doesn't work. I've heard some overheating stuff which scares me.
 
Depends on how much cash you're throwing in.

I mean, the reality is the Thunderbolt is worth more actual dollars than an X. Is the market value of your X + your dollars, less than or equal to what an equivalent condition Thunderbolt is going for on the used market?

I ask because trades are often valued oddly by one or the other trading party. So frequently, you can find people willing to trade outside of what fair market value is. If the Thunderbolt is worth more than your X + your dollars, do it. If you don't like the TB, sell it and buy another used X, and keep your profits.
 
OP, I'm fairly certain 3rd party insurance is available; just do some googling and see what you can find. Also, there are other things you should consider. First, it has %50 more RAM than the X, which is a plus. On the other hand, it has a different stock UI, and HTCs are notorious for bad battery life (though both can be bandaged with replacement launchers and larger batteries). I don't know how much cash you're throwing in, but be sure to add the cost of a bigger battery to what you'd otherwise be spending.
 
How much boot we talking?

You could always trade the TB for another newer phone, or do what binary said and sell it, buy another X and have extra cash.
 
Don't forget that Verizon also does open enrollment from time to time, so you could roll the dice and wait for it.
 
TBolt is going to have so so battery life...4G isn't going to mean a thing if its not available in your area...

ive messed with a TBolt and liked it quite a bit...but im not sure i'd trade my X for it..
 
Nope, the battery life is terrible. If you get a bigger battery for the T-bolt, you might as well pick up a brick and attach a mic and speaker to it and use that as a phone :D:D:D
 
IMO, unless you need the 4G, I would wait. Way too many killer phones on the way out in the next 6-12 months.
 
I've read some terrible user experiences regarding the Thunderbolt. Heck, just go to the Thunderbolt forum here and read some. I would certainly NOT trade my phone for a Thunderbolt.

If it was the Samsung Charge I would be all over it. I've read that many TB users moved to the Charge and are much happier.
 
I think HTC devices overheat because they use a plastic frame vs metal in the Motos so there is less heat sink. Just a hunch though. I almost jumped on the Inc2 because of the FFC and GSM but I think it (Sense) still only supports one Exchange account so I'd have to flash AOSP and then the hardware isn't near as good as Moto. The Inc1 was horrible on battery life and so was every other HTC phone I've had. I can't imagine the TB. I don't have any issues with 3G being too slow, even for Netflix or Youtube hence I don't care about 4G.

If the X came with a FFC and GSM I'd be all over it. The X has the best bettery life of any phone (stock battery) I've had. It is equal to the iphone4. My wife's SF is ok. I don't care about GB, Dual Core or Pentile screens as they don't get me anything.

have HTC about a month and would trade for nothing else even e\with big boot, extended batt cures heating and will stay hooked up all day even with presentations and heavy calling.I talked Verizon into $229.00 then talked them into extended batt, back cover and side case for $30.00, phone went south and HTC overnitghted a new phone, thats two companies that is hard to beat on customer satisfaction.PP

After reading your topic, I thought No, because I really like my X.

Then, before reading the whole thread, (thinking it was an even trade), I thought well, maybe because I've been wanting a front facing camera. The 4G does me no good because no 4G here in Hawaii yet.

Then I thought, Heck yes, 4G is coming to Hawaii on July 21st. (so says Verizon) And getting the TB now wouldn't affect my upgrade which comes in March, 2012.

Then I thought, wait the TB is an HTC phone and I'm not a big fan of HTC phones.

Then I read the whole thread and saw you were throwing in some ca$h, so No, I wouldn't do that. Then I thought why does someone want to trade his TB for an X? That just confimed my decision.... No, I wouldn't do the trade.

I like my X so I'll just wait until March 2012 and get a Bionic or something even better that will be available then or on the near horizon. The CES will be when lots of new phones will be announced so I'm guess something will be coming down the pike that will blow me away..... (Droid Viper maybe?)

Stock, yes it has bad battery, but with the Rom I'm running I get almost as much as I did on my X and there's another kernel that I plan to try that is geared towards ever better battery life.


Also about the overheating issues, there's an issue? I've been on several thunderbolt boards for a few months and didn't know this was a problem. Yes my phone gets hot (just like my X did with lots of use while charging)
 
Well, I would keep the X. I recently purchased a new (used less than a week) TB from a friend and it seems to be a nice phone, but the battery life really sucks. So, I fixed it up for my sister and she has it now, she switched from her X to the TB and kept her X. She has offered to give it back to me because the battery life sucks...even with the extended battery. She recently went on vacation and went through several locations that actually had 4G and that has at least for the moment got her keeping it.

But I had/have the chance to get it at anytime, but I am just not interested. If battery life was better and there were more 4G service areas or if I lived even remotely close to a 4G area I might think about it, but think is probably it for now :)

Insurance should not be an issue. If you switch phones, even if it is a used phone, you have 30 days to either switch your insurance coverage to your new phone or you can purchase insurance on it. I did this on my wife's Droid. She had a dumb phone and no insurance on it and then when I gave her my Droid I called and VZW and Asurion said I could ad insurance coverage within 30 days and I did.

If your interested in a Thunderbolt with battery life similar to the X (Liberty was what I got the best battery life followed by ApeX) then try Das BAMF Stripped 1.8 or remix 1.8. For even better battery life try Imo's lean kernel
 
I was offered the same thing from Verizon. They told me to pick any phone. This was because I was on my second X and the last one came from Motorola.
The 3G to 1X drop issue will never be acknowledged by Motorola.... enough said.
Anyway I chose the HTC Incredible 2. Though I do miss the 4.3 screen size I have gotten used to the 4.0 screen. I was kind of put on the spot when I was offered a replacement so I only had a split second to decide. I recall reading about the battery life on the TB plus I am not in a 4g area so I passed. I really like the DINC 2 and it will get me through another year until my contract is up.
