X number 3!

So i should be getting my second replacement dx today. That will make it my 3rd dx in 3 months. I like getting a new phone as much as the next person but when it's the same phone and you continue to have problems it kinda makes you not like the phone near as much. Which is a shame caus the dx is an awesome phone. The first phone had a bad gps reciever and this one is just a POS! I get no updates, no emails unless i manually refresh, and in the event i have to pull the battery it erases like 40 apps everytime. Oh yeah and it randomly shuts off 10 times or so a day. Frustrating to least!

Anyone know how many ex changes they give u before they let u swap phones?

I went through I think 5 before I got the one I have now... I had everything from 2 with dead pixels, to one that would randomly freeze every few mins, to one that the bottom buttons were barely press able. They will let you swap phone for a different phone at anytime if you are in your 30 days if you are not it would be up to the person you spoke with on the phone. After the 3rd phone they kept offering to let me switch to any other phone they had. So either way I am sure you can talk them into it.

Well 3rd times a charm!

Seriously though, if you aren't comfortable with rooting and ROMing then you may, as I did, experience a device not living up to it's potential. This phone really needs to be ROMed to free it from the chains that blur drags it down with (IMO of course). If you really want to see what this thing can do, then I say experiment with less-blur, and/or blurless ROMs.

If this isn't a road you want to go down, then perhaps tell Verizon you're not happy with the DX and see if they'll let you get a different device.

Sounds like you may have a problem with your sd card, especially with the rebooting and your indication that you need to pull the battery. I hope you only pull the battery out as a very last resort... when there isn't a way to power off the device through the software, or the device has become totally unresponsive.

If you don't back up and reformat the card and transfer it to your replacement device and experience similar problems, don't blame the device until you have ruled out a bad file or filesystem on the card.

The only time i pull the battery is when it completely freezes up and won't let me shut it off another way. And this happens with or without the sd card. I thought about that too.
I was actually gettin to the point i was going to root ths dx but the problems kept getting worse. I didn't want to take a chance on rooting it before i sent it back. I had been looking at the forums for roms that were blurless. Rooting looks pretty simple and reversable but i probably wouldn't go too far into changing things. Definitely get rid of the bloatwear.
Some other problems with the phone is it had a blown speaker in the ear piece since first recieving it but i don't make many calls so i didn't worry bout that. But in the last 2 weeks iv had a pixel randomly going out. I tried to give this phone a chance!

It's pretty amazing how many users have had to replace their DX multiple times. I am on my 3rd as well.

My "4th" will be an Iphone!!

It makes me a bit sad that significant problems with the X are so common, especially since many seem to be software driven. Hopefully Moto will (eventually) get the message.

They're not, people just are never satisfied. Seriously,a dead pixel is NOT a good reason to get it replaced. And my bet is the reboots are mostly from apps and the way people have then considered. Otherwise known as operator error. Out of four dx's I've yet to have a SINGLE issue.

Why have you had four of them then??

;)

Original phone. Works fine for me. Some folks turn them in if the color of an app isn't what they like. No wonder this service costs so much!

Might I ask why you've had four then? As much as I hate anecdotal evidence, most problems I hear about can be/are solved with rooting, one way or another.

And dead pixels are a completely legitimate reason for an exchange. When $500 is spent (subsidized or not) the item better work, including every pixel.

It may be blasphemy to say this on this Forum, but some of us don't want to root their phones. It is also a little crazy to think that Motorola would deliver a product to consumers that needs to be rooted, violating their own policies and warranty, to fix the flaws they have created and are unable/unwilling to fix.

I advise people with problems to root and ROM their phone all the time. But I also agree with your statement 100% that you shouldn't have to do this to get the phone to work. Of course out of the hundreds of thousands of DX's sold worldwide the vast majority of them don't need anything, they do just work out of the box. Don't let this site be any indication that the DX is a horribly plagued device. There is a disproportionate amount of people on this site who are having problems with their phone because this is where people who are having problems with their phones come.

It's the same way with the iPhone. People who have problems with their iPhone jump on iPhone forums to try to solve their issues. Therefore if you go to an iPhone forum you'll see tons of people complaining about the iPhone. That doesn't mean that the iPhone is a horribly plagued device either. It's just a fact of life that with mass produced electronics you're going to have some defective units.

So along with my advice to try rooting and ROMing your device to make it work better for you, if you're not willing to try that and you're experiencing unsatisfactory results from you DX, then I say give another device (iPhone included if that's what floats your boat) a try.

Cheers.

2 if mine had camera problems..and the 3rd had like 4 dp. untill you have some bright dots on your phone you can't understand how annoying dead pixels are.

Im about to go on my 4th (last one they just sent me has dust under the glass). Im thinking about asking if they will send me an incredible instead.

If anyone is thinking this is a DX only issue, then talk to 'David Jenkins1' over at the iPhone forums...

Yes, it is a refurbished phone, demand a NEW phone! Speak to the manager of the store. I was lied to as well, and was given a supposed "new" phone in the little black box. It died in less than 12 hours, and now I am using a loaner phone until they get a REAL new phone in, they had to order one. This will be G-4 iPhone number 3!!! In two months! NOT HAPPY!

Ok so maybe a move to the Incredible will solve everything. Just don't ask 'Pakman134' about it, this is just a small excerpt of what he had to say...

At this point I wish I just put up with my pushed in camera lens. It was solid and I never had a reboot issue in months (not even non-cycling reboots). I'm now onto my third replacement in the past week, and fourth overall (my very first device had to be replaced after having 3g radio problems a few months ago).

Now this is not an attempt to keep anyone with the DX by any means. I'll admit if I were on my 4th DX and still having problems you could bet I'd be exploring a different device as well. All this is meant to point out is that you'll find this same story everywhere you look. It may seem like this device is a dud, but no matter what option you're looking at going with, someone feels the same way about that one as you do about this one.

I saw a great bumper sticker that sums this up fantastically. It went like this...

"No matter how hot she looks to you, somewhere some guy is sick and tired of putting up with her shit"!

Yeah i'm sure rooting will help with a lot of issues but before i root i wana make sure it's working before i do anything that could cause them not to exchange it. I'll prob wait it out even if i have to swap the the again just cause i love ths phone. Iphone prob wouldn't be bad but i don't like them regulating what i can and can't put on my phone. Iphones are good and yes they have problems just like any other. Within a couple weeks i'll have a rooted dx that's blurless and bloated free, at least that's the plan. So i appreciate the help from people like outlaw71 and the other regular users that help with all the problems people have from rooting to changing ringtones.

I have a family plan with 3 and had to have one replaced through assurion. That's 4. And most of the dead pixels people returned for were only dead for certain colors, I couldn't care less. Lcd in general has ALWAYS had this problem. I couldn't be happier with my phone, neither could my wife or daughter. Never a hiccup out of them

Hi,
I went through 5 DX's finally switches to samsung fascinate.Tried to be happy for 2 months with the screen, but I was still deeply amazed with DX hardware. Finally my SF went bad too, so called back to tech support. Got a re-conditioned SF, CRAPPY , DOES NOT EVEN ACTIVATE. Called back again, requested to be back on DX, CANNOT DO THAT, so Spoke to supervisor, he said can get me a DX without back door or battery. ( I already had those from my DX with even MM docks) SO JUST FINE!! SENT IT. Today I will be officially back to DX before moving on to Iphone on 2/10/11.

You really argued your point for a phone you are going to keep for a few weeks?

Dang.....
