Xoom WIFI ONLY - can preorder now!

I pre-ordered mine from Costco. I've been on the fence for a while as far as Tablets go, and people for the most part haven't given any compelling reasons as to why one is useful, but this seems like one of those items that you just have to experience. I chose Costco because of their liberal 90 day return policy, and also if you order online, while you do get it later than everyone else, you also get a free gel case.

Heck, I have been calling BestBuy since Friday and they have no idea about the WiFi only unit. It is not in their system. They say to call back on Friday. I am going to take the 3G unit back (got last Friday 3/18) and get the WiFi only device as I don't need/want a data plan (Plus I will save $200). I can't believe the Largest B&M has no idea about the WiFi only device. At least I have 45 days to return the other unit as I am a Silver Premiere member.

I know if I call Sunday when they open they will hold one for me. That's what I will do.

yeah they were clueless at my BB also.. I told them look staples, cotsco, etc are taking preorders and you guys are lost.. He tried to get me to get the 3g version and Itell him for what? I have a Nexus S and can tether for free. The mobile guy had no clue WTF I was talking about.. So lost these people i tell ya

Exactly. I tell them Staples, Costco, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club will have them on Sunday and they have no clue the device is even coming out. I had one gal (called a few in my area) had no clue it was even releasing. She transfers me to the Mobile Guy and he has no clue as well. How's this possible unless they are trying to sell as many 3G units as possible before the WiFi unit comes out. They are idiots. How can you be a Electronics selling giant and not know that a major electronics device is selling this Sunday. It's a shame when customers know more than the people working at BestBuy. I have had to correct them on many occasions.

Edit: I had to call their corp. offices (1-888-237-8289) and talk to someone in the Mobile Dept. and she had no idea what I was taking about at first. She then found the WiFi SKU under tablets and called the BestBuy in my area (after I gave her my Zip). She then contacted me with a mobile rep there, they found the SKU in the system BUT cannot take pre-orders yet as they have none in inventory. He will call me when they do and either let me pre-order or hold a unit back for me as I am the first person to inquire about this unit.

Depends on training and the 1000's of items they carry. Mobile devices are constantly updated who knows how the information is passed on to the employees. Best Buy might be a good price option but employee product knowledge is all over the map.
 
I preordered from Staples as well. I went to my local Staples to ask about accessories yesterday. While the Assistant Mgr was very well informed (none of the other folks there were, they were all "what's a tablet?"), he said that they were really pumped about getting them and expected them the Friday before, as they only get shipments on Fridays. I am having mine delivered to me at home, as I work from home and will pounce on it with abandon and delight. I am even tempted to develop Hong Kong Hangnail after I get it. :D
 
Accessories are avail now for the zoom at best buy,Amazon, Verizon, and the Motorola Store. Look up in the accessories sub forum also...
 
I ordered mine online and should be here by 4/1. I will then take my 3G unit back the day I receive the WiFi unit. The good thing other than saving $200 is getting rid of the Verizon logo. It will feel more like a stock Google device.
 
Sorry, yeah the silicone gel case that costco is giving online for free, I meant to state thats what i was refering too sorry lol. I heard people saying it was also going to be avaliable in store aswell.
 
I know Costco has the release date for the Xoom as 4/1, but I wonder if that's just online or in store as well. I'd rather just go into my local Costco this weekend and pick one up and cancel my online order as opposed to waiting till April, with the possibility of that order being delayed because I didn't pre-order early enough. I can live without that gel cover, but I need to get it from Costco because I really like that 90-day return policy.
 
Looks like I may take a trip to Costco on Sunday... Although first I need to call Costco.com and see if my order ship date has been properly updated (just as a backup.) I wonder if we can get the free gel case in store as well.
