Root [ZIP] MMS FIX FOR CM/AOSP/AOKP (THANKS wolfu)

So I installed this as per the instructions, the new mms app shows up and I see my text's but I still cannot download any of the MMS...is it normal for it to not work? I am on an AOKP rom.
 
I tried 2 of the 3 apk's none of them seem to work. I had edited the apn file with virgin settings would that have anything to do with it?

No you dont change the apns in AOKP, the apns change is for sense 4.0 and 4.1 and 3.6 sense based sprint roms.. AOKP does not have apns for you to swap out.. Just follow the instructions in the OP and swap out the Mms.apk..
 
The reason why is because those were added in a newer version, this is older version but has MMS receiving working.

i'm on hboot 1.04 and s-off...does any of that matter?

we're just talking about an apk swap and adjusting the permissions, then a reboot...what else am i missing?

Nope. I just did it on CM10 Gangnam style. MMS took about 5-6 minutes to download though...even at just a 64kb image size. So for now, back to sense.

Getting MMS to work without sense on this phone....

Hey uh. Guys? I just was reading over the xml files in the apks. I noticed something that I think might have something to do with sending....

In the sense apk you see the following:

Code: 
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SEND_MMS"/>

Yet under the AOSP one...that's not there.

thats interesting...if it means anything.

i am able to send...just not receive.

Really? I can receive, but not send. Meaning I think that the proper permissions have not been set inside the APK itself...

Any devs feel free to chime in, I'm not a dev ;)
 
When a app tries to do a action that needs a certain permission that wasn't added in the app its supposed send a error in log cat. I'll tell g60 about this since he's the one with a computer.
 
w00t! So who knows...maybe we'll be closer to MMS working now? If so...AOSP will be my new daily.
 
So if I type out a message and it happens to be more then 160 it just keeps on saying sending and never sends. Does this happen to anyone else?

Just as an FYI for people I've taken the liberty of testing Go SMS and Handcent AFTER applying the fix. Go SMS does nto work, however Handcent does. This is AOKP 3.5.2 that I'm using, too. Just to clarify.
 
So the stock messaging app works with MMS? Sending and receiving? :0

Does it have to be one of the apps from here or can I use a newer version of the stock app that comes with the PACman ROM?
 
Works on Pac man as well (sent and received). Mysms so also working. Excellent work guys!
To be safe I did the full switch off chasing the app from here as well.
