So if we find the files audio server calls, do we look for one that's accessible without root and modify it somehow?
There are 2 methods. One is direct injection, generally ASM, and the other is rewriting the library while it's not running

Metro pillow talking ZTE. And Marshmallow is hard to crack in of itself. If this was a Galaxy S8 for example, it'd get rooted almost over* night* because some of the biggest reverse engineers out there want the credit. Don't get me wrong, Messi isn't small time, but he's not on the level of say Geohot. We'll get there man. Just keep trying

*Edit me engly no gud
Ok, but why did you mention Messi? I don't get it. He tried his best even when didn't own the device. And we all have to appreciate that. Maybe he is not one of the biggest reverse engineers out there right now, but maybe one day he will. I don't know, I just don't like your comment. I don't think is fair with Messi

He didn't mean anything by it. Was just stating. Messi is awesome.

I never said he didn't do his best. Everyone appreciates the work he did. I mentioned messi because he was part of the ZTE Z981 scene. No one here is bad mouthing messi dude, and you seem to have missed the entire point of my comment.

Messi the man.. don't forget to check me on the h811 forum.. got some goodies in store.. didn't get far here with my mods.. unless one of you can Port system apps to regular installable apps. I know one of you that can. I feel like I'm the only one working on what we can do. Everyone keeps going hard at root and doing the hamster wheel thing. If you notice, all the people that started the 1st thread don't even post anymore unless it's about something that's never been done. On a more promising note, anyone had any luck finding the firehouse.mbn Messi need for this phone? If you do pm me..

I can try. Lucky might be able to extract.

Nevermind on Lucky. I might be able to adb system apks though. I'll let you know in the morning.
Alright, done. Simple.
ADB SHELL
cd system
ls
cd app
ls
cd xdivert
ls
CTRL+C^
ADB PULL /system/app/xdivert/xdivert.apk
(It succeeded)
ADB INSTALL xdivert.apk

So, extracted a system app, and tried to install. [install failed already exists]

So we can easily pull system apps, but can't uninstall for now. Might be able to change the package slightly to install though.

This is progress.

You mean to alter and push via adb to attempt root?
Not sure yet. I don't know of any system app that natively has root permission, and I can only install to userland. But if there is an app that somehow magically has root permission, I will find it and use it. I can alter all I want, but root is far-fetched with pulling and installing.

Hey guys

Hey guys. It's just me. I'm sorry and happy to say that I have moved on to the axon 7. The Phoenix was too amazing to pass up and wow. But anyways. I'm still here to support and I was thinking. Would it be possible to unlock plbootloader similar to how the axon does it. I mean it's very logical and given that it's for ZTE. I would think it should possibly work well.

I have no idea what the "plbootloader" is, besides being a form of bootloader, and a google search just pulled a bunch of chinese listings. Mind explaining to us a bit? A little information can go a long way

Well I took a look at the Axon method, but it seems to require TWRP. If we had TWRP, we wouldn't need to unlock the bootloader unless I'm missing something.

Figures. They really need to stop playing hard ball with us on these phones. Considering they just lost a lot of money and most of us won't be buying another zte device unless we can root this phone.
I'm about to attempt the axon7 tool method. I highly doubt it will work, but I'm ready to brick.
