We would definitely need root to install twrp on this phone right now.Well I took a look at the Axon method, but it seems to require TWRP. If we had TWRP, we wouldn't need to unlock the bootloader unless I'm missing something.

You know a great deal more than I do. If there's something I can do to help, point me in the right direction.I'm about to attempt the axon7 tool method. I highly doubt it will work, but I'm ready to brick.
You the man, by the way.I'm about to attempt the axon7 tool method. I highly doubt it will work, but I'm ready to brick.
I'm at ends right now. TWRP is a massive priority, but I have no idea on how I would go about it, let alone anyone elseYou know a great deal more than I do. If there's something I can do to help, point me in the right direction.
Yes and no. We are trying the same things but different vantage points. I wish more people would jump in and help out.U def need root for twrp messi built us one not sure where to find it. But hasn't this all been tried before??
According to the axon method, root is NOT required.U def need root for twrp messi built us one not sure where to find it. But hasn't this all been tried before??
EDL mode seems to be key to ZTE devices. I wish ZTE would stop being difficult and just release factory tools.I've been so focused on root that twrp took the back burner. Maybe I'll start playing around with messi's twrp he made for us.
If it exposes partitions, we might be able to go with a systemless root.Alright, Axontools did not work. I did get in to EDL mode, but my phone could not be found. But, this is progress. EDL mode does work and apparently exposes the partitions.
That's what I was thinking. We have no way of reading/connecting to EDL mode though. That's out of my league. If it exposes partitions, we might be able to go with a systemless root.
Damn you zte!!!That's what I was thinking. We have no way of reading/connecting to EDL mode though. That's out of my league.
EDL is readable via axontools, but that only works on the Axon7. But this means someone has figured out the protocol. If we could contact/contract them, it'd be some major progressDamn you zte!!!
I'll do some digging and see what I find.EDL is readable via axontools, but that only works on the Axon7. But this means someone has figured out the protocol. If we could contact/contract them, it'd be some major progress

The kernel was posted a few pages back.Sorry. My wording was off but yes EDL mode is key and TWRP is needed in order for us to gain root. Apparently it's the new hung before gaining root. The Samsung and most 6.0 device and up does so. So we need to unlock bootloader first. Install TWRP the. Flash the root script. The method it shows that doesn't unlock the bootloader is more risky. I feel we need to compile the correct bootloader unlock so we can flash TWRP. The bootloader looking for signature verification which TWRP does not carry. So tomorrow after work I'll be seeing what can be done. ZTE must have the source files somewhere. It's PUBLIC info.
At least we have a focus now. That's better than just blindly attacking everything in sight.Sorry. My wording was off but yes EDL mode is key and TWRP is needed in order for us to gain root. Not the kernel necessary. But the source files that will allow us to unlock the bootloader
We have already had the source for quite some time.ZTEUSA does not release source. The only way we will get source for this phone is if it's leaked.
Yes.. I was going to say that. But it's good to see everything that has been attempted being tried by a fresh set of eyes.. someone might see something that got overlooked.. if we can get the right firehose file, we can root with qfil. And what's with the ZTE lawsuit? Is it possible it's karma for not giving us the bootloader unlock? Lol.. like you guys said.. they f*cked up and lost customers for life..U def need root for twrp messi built us one not sure where to find it. But hasn't this all been tried before??
