Try updating the driver in Windows device manager.. qfil reads it and diver suppose to updated to 9008 but I heard you can manually try 9006..If it exposes partitions, we might be able to go with a systemless root.

Hey guys
If you aren't helping, or at least trying to help, get out of here with the negativityYa. I read that. It was the headline news on my google app yesterday. Mine was they plead guilty and it involves Iran. And I honestly don't understand why? US sanctions for what? Not releasing product in Iran? I don't get it. But it's a hefty fine wow.
Trump is making China pay for I don't even know what. LOL.
And to those trying to root the phone, the bootloader is locked tight guys that's why no matter what you try, it ain't happening.
I'm working towards getting this phone open. Irregardless of who gets it done, it is still progress in the ZTE modding scene. I'm not going to sit on my ass and expect other people to do my job for me. If all you are going to do is try to discourage us, get out. We don't need it.LOL ok. If you want to waste your time, WOOOOOOOOW.
It sounds like they were shipping US made products into Iran illegally. We have sanctions against Iran. They were acting as a middle man to ship in products that we don't allow Iran to import from us.
What they products are. Who knows. As much tech as we outsource to China it could be just about anything.

Axon7 was locked and unrootable too, until someone figured out EDL mode and flashed TWRP, without even unlocking. So no, we don't need root to get things done.I get it if you want to bleed to root this phone go for it but my point is how can you when the bootloader is locked and signature keys are needed? Just trying to point WHERE you should focus on if you want to root it and don't even think early posters here have NEVER tried ALL the things you posted here coz they already did, MONTHS ago! k?

It does make me curious though. I haven't checked the 981s recovery, but my Desire had "mount system" natively, and a small script allowed ADB access so I could fiddle with the system point. I doubt ZTE allows adb via recovery other than sideload though.Nope. Not unless you know how to push recovery, or SuperSu through it.
We always have EDL to fall back on at least. It allows you to open a shell. You can't do much with it.
I posted a link a few pages back on the topic. The guy clearly said "bootloader locked", so it may be after the fact of relocking.Axon7's bootloader was unlocked for a brief moment. I actually don't know why they locked the bootloader again. But maybe the EDL mode worked when the bootloader was unlocked who knows.
Supposing EDL on the axon7 is the same EDL on 981, the guy who wrote Axon7 tools might have an idea of what specific command we need to shoot at it.I haven't had much luck with EDL. I had a script firing commands at ADB for about a week and never caused a crash or found anything new. I don't know if EDL would even give any feedback if it worked. It's worth a try.
There has to be a very slight difference. adb reboot ftm brings me to a splash that says FTM on it, while EDL is blank. I think EDL is a heavily stripped version of FTM designed for mass factory flashing, while FTM is the full version. Speaking of these, they should be open source yes? Reversing engineering the code should help.Possibly. I'm not convinced our EDL mode isn't just FTM either. I have seen more proof that makes it look like the same mode rather than 2 separate ones.
it's not another ftm but without the signed programmer you can't flash anything.Possibly. I'm not convinced our EDL mode isn't just FTM either. I have seen more proof that makes it look like the same mode rather than 2 separate ones.
So how did they do it on the axon? Unless I missed something, it's just a in house executable using adbit's not another ftm but without the signed programmer you can't flash anything.
