Cloak and dagger is different then sword/dagger./ One is a GPU hook, the other is an overlay glitch that is used primarily for malware and i could not see any use for it. The overlay method is what I use, apologies for all who messaged me, i need to iron one thing out before it can be sent. For some reason after reboot it gets a dalvik error. Haven;t seen one of these since iCS. Speending the day today debugging and pushiong a new git, will send a link to those who messaged me. Thank you for hanging tight guysm, doing my best - Wish Messi would weigh in, @SapphireEx you're first in line!

@freddimac - wrong place for that question. This is z981 Unlock methods only for ROOT ACCESS/Bootloader Unlock - Not Unlocking a phone number. We don;t mind helping, just go make a post in android general for that. A google search will probably reveal the same method.

Back ON Track - Got called in, ill be out at 8EST - Hopefully shortly after a working T-Root. After that I'd really like messi or another dev to take a second look at this dump tool im making to try and harvest what exactly the weird root is that DOES exist on this phone. I think that T-Root should point us in the right direction for what's going on with this device, what'g being hidden from eye, and what our next step is. I think that it's pretty ironic that an exploit used for keyloggers primarily and the such can be used on this device, perhaps there is something else that is backdoored on here that uses something similar for access?

Maybe i'm just a nut, but that's how I feel.

Don't call yourself a nut. I feel the same way

This is why since last year when it was discover bits of possible root on this phone. I kept thinking the quickest way for root would be thru a class action lawsuit. And we would get enough insight thru discovery. I have never heard of a phone come preRooted or that comes with a botch Root to block Root. It seems it is more to do with blocking true monitoring of what this phone does in the background then anything else. We already know ZTE is a corrupt company. They have agreed to pay millions because of it. And MetroPCS & TMobile are aholes by making us be at ZTE's mercy. Sue them all. Until they can provide full bootloader unlocking & root.

Anybody has a lawyer friend that can look into this ? I mean the Nougat fake update quotes should be enough to get the ball rolling. Maybe getting the state attorneys offices involve.

Just Google "zte corruption" or "zte illegal activities" and all kinds of shady stuff pops up. I'm positive there monitoring us and selling or data, maybe to the Chinese government. I think a law suit and motion of discovery is the way to go. Just need a legitimate reason other just wanting root lol.

To everyone who's bitching about not having root and criticizing ZTE, you don't have to use this phone. ZTE isn't forcing you to use their hardware. If you don't like the phone and/or the manufacturer, get a new phone. It's that simple.

I know this is off topic, but does anyone else's ZTE zmax pro have a weird magnetic spot on the right edge of the screen near the power button? And if so does anyone know why it's there?

If i can get access to actual code i can help a bit.

I tried forcing a change in kernel call to the gpu so i could post elevate a certain run as kinda like dirty c0w.

It would cause a reboot and never returned a result. Same issue is available in b20 as the kernel was never updated since b08.

The posts just above mine. Two people taking about corruption and lawsuits, blah blah. People really get all out of whack just because they can't root their phone.
Last time I check the US is not China, yet. And we consumers can demand that devices are not NSA/Peoples Republic of fine China mics or data sniffers. But hey. Your fine with anybody selling exploitative hardware. As long as they can't make you buy it. Well I got an opinion on that. If you think companies like ZTE should be allowed to expand here using tactics like that. I guess we disagree. I am not just complaining but pushing for a possible option to deal with the problem.

Right. I know wanting Root is not the end all. But on this type of cases only the lawyers of both sides make money. Consumers usually get a tiny award ($5-$10) bucks or something ridiculous. So I as a possible victim would want something I can actually make use of. An UnLock bootloader & Full Root to be able to monitor/index for any illegal activity as part of any settlement.

Can anyone de-odex the emode.apk that we have in our /System/priv-app/Emode/ directory? I am incapable due to lack of software and a computer.

Well, thats how you force them to open up their phone. There is some shady shit going on here and some people appear to intend on finding out what exactly and why. And why do you care? If you dont want to take part in it you do not have to. What does it matter to you what other people are doing, unless, of course, you have some sort of vested interest in ZTE. Or maybe China.

Lol what a shit show. Open your permissions, browsers and eyes. Google and Facebook are F***-on guilty of raking more data from your phones, including keywords from your SMS databases, than ZTE would ever hope to get.

If anyone has followed just a little bit of Android news over the last few years, you'd be aware of ZTE and Huawei combing through system data. You're all victims of MANY billion dollar industries collecting and selling your personal info, stop singling ZTE out lol......

Victim? Class action lawsuit? IT'S A $100 FOOD STAMP PHONE!!! Go ahead and wait 10 years for your $5 settlement. Don't throw it away, they'll want proof...

The smart thing to do is sell your phone now while it's still worth $50, and relax knowing you passed this big international data conspiracy to some other unfortunate soul hahahahaha....

Seriously. OMFG if y'all are that worried about it go buy a BlackBerry lol

Now can we at least get back to somewhat off-topic discussion instead of this crap?

You know, I come to a Root ZTE ZMax Pro thread so I can be told it's a Food Stamp phone. Didn't know. I also come to a specific phones thread to be told to buy some other phone. Love it. Thanks. I didn't know there where any other phones in existence. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle.

If all of the Temp Root options wash out & the promise of Nougat is proven to be false. Then, yeah, A lawsuit might be in order. Seen much more frivolous class actions around. That's the way things go in the US. The ZMax Pro is my first ZTE device & it will probably be my last. I find it to be an ok/good device for its Food Stamp price except for all the unknowns.

Please comeback to this thread next week with an update on what other phones we can buy...
I am really interested.

Typical pattern for this thread;

1. A person posts a promising new approach to obtaining root.

2. A couple of helpful people jump in and things start rolling.

3. Ten posts happen about the Bermuda Triangle being caused by ZTE, random discussion about space aliens, a couple LG Stylo fools show up to say "we have root, your phone is dumb", etc.

Repeat.

It's almost funny at this point.

It looks like some really interesting stuff is happening regarding temp root. Wishing you luck!

Does anyone have this app on there phone it just downloaded it's self it says it's from ZTE but All the reviews from ZTE devices below say it's malware that can't be deleted https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zte.zdm

interesting says its installed on my phone too on b13 on tmobile. think its legit tbh but im no expert. not sure if its related but on occasion when clicking links chrome has a b*tch fit and endlessly opens blank tabs till i close chrome.... odd behavior but budget phone so meh?

But if its Fake and malicious.
1.how did it get on devices
2.how did it get on devices.
3. profit?

Data mining on ztes part, just download an app disabler and disable it
