Are There Non-apparent Advantges To Newer Technology?

My current phone (Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact) has a Micro SD card. I get a report:

Internal shared storage...Used space 17.6 GB
Free space 4.04 GB

SD card Used space 36.5GB (mostly pics. of my grand daughter)
Free space 82.5 GB

So I guess I am good with 128 GB

As Hadron suggested I started checking tests of batteries and the S22 doesn't look that good. I need to look some more.

But I really wish I could find a smaller phone then even the S22.

Help Moto G keeps resetting.

I also hate auto updates, have a Motorola, and the same issue.

After much grief and aggrevation, I stumbled quite blindly onto a sort of solution.

I have a certain cleaning app, quite possibly the only trustworthy one, that can be set to automatically clean the device once a day.

After I allowed the auto cleaning to occur, the automatic restarts stopped!

My guess is that although the auto update is turned off, the junk still gets downloaded and will pester either you or the system itself until it gets installed.

These things are installed automatically during restarts, so there it is.

So what I figure is happening now is that the cleaner is deleting the update data soon enough after it comes in that my device has suffered only one or two restarts in the last few weeks- whereas it was happening multiple times a day before.

Try it and see if it helps you as well as it did me.

Now, @ocnbrze has a valid point about the age of the device.

This app may help, but the fact remains that you will need a newer device shortly.

You very well may have the same issue when the updates come through on a new device, especially if you turn off the auto-updates like I do.

So, even if you replace the device, I would still put this app on the new one and let it do its thing.

When you read the description, you will see why I say that it may be the only trustworthy cleaner around.

Also, if you don't know, F-Droid is the most secure appstore around- so don't be put off that the link is from a third party appstore.

Attached mouse won't power up

I tried this setup on another working Pixel 2 and it didn't power up either. I'm assuming something needs to be assigned in which case i'm out of luck. Can anyone confirm what needs to be turned on?
Yeah, I don't think it's an option you 'turn on' but rather the need to have some kind of driver/firmware installed in order for some external devices to work. In this instance it could be a driver could be required for the mouse or the OTG adapter/cable, or both. And it's matter where with Android something like a device driver is added via an app. So unless this is done back when the screen was working, that 'might' be part of the problem since testing this requires a Pixel 2 XL, and that specific brand of mouse and that specific brand of an OTG adapter/cable.

need to cast Android to pc through wifi, without lag

Please provide more details as your basic setup.
-- Are you trying to connect your phone to your TV using a WiFi signal from a router or from a phone hotspot?
If the former that will make interactions between devices more seamless than the latter.
-- What phone model do you have and which version of Android is it running?
Depending the phone, it may already include the sharing/casting features you need, without having to install third-party apps/services.
-- What is the make and model of your TV? Is it a smart TV (already includes its own existing, integral networking); or is it an older TV where you need to use an added, external dongle-type device (i.e. a Chromecast or a Roku) to add WiFi capability.

How can I make apps close when I back out of them?

I wouldn't bother with trying to constantly close apps, that's just micromanaging Android's memory management in a counter-productive way. You're not regaining usable RAM by doing this, it's just making your phone work that much more in the background to compensate for your actions. Or in other words, Android's memory management is much more advanced than we all think we are.

Root How to Root Insignia Flex

I'm attempting this on an NS-P11A8100. I'm *sort of* making progress. I get the unit to show in Device Manager, but it shows as a battery only, and no ability to transfer data.

I'm also using some of the instructions on http://grieve-smith.com/blog/2015/08/how-to-connect-an-insignia-ns-15at10-to-adb-on-windows/

Part of the problem, I think, is that this device doesn't give access to settings to enable USB data xfer. It's a really odd cookie. So I'm caught in a circle where I want to root, but need to transfer data to do so, but I can't because I'm not rooted, so I can't transfer data, which I could do if I were rooted...

*sigh*

Listed as a “Lurker!” That's funny.

Wear OS app to send SMS with single tap

That's correct, I wrote this originally just for myself but thought others might find it useful. I might try putting it on Google Play at some point but I've had to remove SMS functionality from apps I've published to Play in the past, even after I've provided an explanation to Google of why the app uses SMS messaging, so I thought it would be easier to just publish the APK files for now.
Cool, and now that you mention the SMS stuff, yeah, I remember they cracked down on that a few years ago. Makes sense. Good luck and thanks for sharing. This actually seems like something a teen could use as well as my son is beginning spring sports and staying after school.

Can Celeron (not Core) run Android Studio

I like to buy a celeron laptop...

https://www.amazon.com/PiPo-W14-8GB-Ram-128GB/dp/B08R29G3R9

can I run Android Studio with it? is it possible? thanks...

Here's the spec sheet for the CPU. My advice, don't get this laptop for Android Studio. You can get a used or refurbished laptop with much better specs at a comparable price.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...0-2m-cache-up-to-2-20-ghz/specifications.html

You need to be sure that whatever system you buy, the cpu must have "VT-x" and "VT-d" or "AMD-v" for AMD cpus which are for virtualization.

Also note, virtualization is only needed if your gonna use the android emulator in Android Studio. If your testing apps on physical devices then you can do without it.

Wear app to check UK train times

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately it's going to be difficult to help with the scrolling as I don't have a Galaxy Watch, I use a Fossil Explorist which doesn't even have a scrollable bezel. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic does look very good though so when my current watch packs up I would definitely consider getting something like this.

I don't have any plans at the moment to create a watch widget, although I might look at the "tiles" feature at some point (when I originally wrote Next Train there was no way to create these but it looks like this is now possible).

I've added a link to the Wear OS APK as per your suggestion.

Regarding the issue of the widget creating too many requests, I can only apologise for this - I did see this happen once a long time ago but I put in a fix and it hasn't happened to me since (I use a Google Pixel). Which version do you have? If you open the About page it should show at least version 29. If you see the option again please send me the app log files (there's a menu option for this) and I'll take a look.
