Google Instagram Installation Mystery

it's stupid play store compatibility filter. It's always wrong, tends to allow actually incompatible stuff to work and cause issues, or falsely flags specific devices it hates as not possible to work. I haven't depended on an app store since Android Market EOL'd, and i second trying to use the APK file from a site such as apkmirror or apkpure. It's been my go-to for years, and best yet, no surprise forced updates.

You can also choose which version you like. If I actually wanted Instagram, I'd use the last version that sported the old icon as I hate flat ui design anyway, and I hear the old app still works.

If you feel you need an appstore, try an alternative such as Aptoide. That's about as close to Android Market as you're gonna get today. There is also SlideMe if you're into the era of Android 2.x which was back when it was truly open and free of Google, or F-droid for only open-source apps.

Blurry Google Chrome webpage.

could be skeleton loading, as in not fully loading properly. Since my Spectrum Internet upgraded my modem, I often get skeleton loads/not fully loaded blurries because it changes my DNS server to some oddball 206.x.x.x server, forcing me to use static IP and set it to my router's own DNS instead.

without a screenshot, it's hard to tell. you can take a screenshot in Android by holding down power and tapping 'home' or if using gestures, holding power and volume down.

Purple Paint On Trees

I feel for anyone who is out of the loop though. Nobody picks up books of law and tries to find any new law that shows up, just like how nobody bothers to read EULAs. Who would? It is all in legalese. I mean how is anyone going to find this as a ''no tresspassing'' sign and not simple random tagging?

Contacts related issues

Hi Clementine_3,

Forgive me, but I don't see how that applies here. This will only prevent "additional" email addresses from automatically being included to an already established Gmail address list. In this context, what;s the difference whether they're added manually or otherwise?

Example: This is essentially the problem I've been trying to solve for ages. Let's say that I edited all my android phone contacts list to eliminates all email addresses. In short order, my Verizon cloud would, subsequently, involuntarily, re-sync all of whatever consists of my current gmail addresse with my phone contact list.

Root The one and only official SYSTEM-RW for Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (and other devices) by lebigmac

Tried it on 2 different pixel 4a5g. Bricked them both. Stuck on bootloader.
To get out of bootloop all you need to do is restore your original stock super.img and boot.img (and vbmeta.img if you want).
Sometimes when the bootloop is very stubborn, the only way to fix it is by flashing your whole original stock firmware ROM (same firmware version as the one you're currently running). As long as you don't overwrite or erase the USERDATA partition you should still have access to all your personal data.

Remove certain apps from Android 12

I've never seen a comprehensive list of apps and manufacturer-installed bloatware. The problem is that even if there were a generally agreed list of what actually is "bloatware" it would be hell to maintain the list: every manufacturer adds their own set of apps to a phone, this will change with major updates, may change with minor updates, and in addition carriers add their own crap. It isn't even necessarily the same for phones from the same manufacturer running the same version of Android. So keeping track of it and maintaining a list would be a major job.

But there's an important thing to know: not all system apps can even be disabled. The idea is that they are supposed to stop you disabling things that would have really serious consequences (e.g. crash the phone and leave you unable to log back in), though many manufacturers abuse this to stop you disabling their apps or even bloatware they've been paid to install (as Samsung did with some ordinary commercial third-party apps, in no way essential to Android, that they installed on my old tablet). But the point is not that manufacturers abuse this protection, but that it should not let you disable anything that would really break the system, which means that if you can disable it then it won't cause any permanent harm. Of course you may lose some functionality, but if you don't use that then it doesn't matter, and if you do you can re-enable it.

So basically, once you know what something does, and know it's not something you care about, then feel free to disable it. One caveat though: don't disable Google Play Services unless you are really sure, because there are a surprising number of things that depend on that and it's not just going to break Google apps but also a number of third party apps that use things it provides.

Installed Build Tools revision 33.0.1 is corrupted. Remove and install again using the SDK Manager

I have done a clean install of Android Studio Giraffe. I previously had Dolphin. I am creating a new project trying just a basic Empty Project with the Java.

I get the error
Installed Build Tools revision 33.0.1 is corrupted. Remove and install again using the SDK Manager

I have tried the solution recommended by @vikrant-pandey (and others) on this link, but I do not have a dx.bat or dx.jar d8.bat or d8.jar anywhere in my Windows 10 folders:
C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\build-tools\33.0.1

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
How do I uninstall and install 33.0.1 from the SDK manager?

[App][Free] Capture and Organize Real-World Colors for Your Projects

Maybe include Pantone colors, CMYK and RGB values also, since these are industry standards....
Thank you very much for your feedback,
RGB values are already available (You can choose in settings which values you are interested in, this avoids showing values you are not interested in and making the UI too busy), I will work on adding CMYK and Pantone

There are apps that copy one phone to another, but that won't let you reset the phone then copy stuff back to the same phone because once you reset the phone there will be nothing left to copy back. Hence you need to back up to either cloud storage or another personal device.

Samsung have some PC software called "Smart Switch" which can back up the phone to a computer. There's an FAQ on it here. Note however that it can't back up everything (as it describes in the "what can I tranfer?" section), so I'd advise taking a second backup of important stuff (e.g. copy what you can to a computer over USB, or to your favourite cloud storage, in addition). I can't give any additional advice on this app because I've never used it myself.

In principle some stuff can be backed-up with a Google account (probably a Samsung account too), but I didn't find that reliable 10 years ago (when I was playing with custom ROMs and so resetting every few weeks) and while it may have changed I never got into the habit of trusting it. Maybe someone else can advise on that stuff.

Stuck in Loop

It just keeps asking for the username password loop. I figured out the problem there, the tablet isn't listed as a device in the account she's using. Which brought us to another problem, google email addresses are disposable to her and she must have about 15 active on her phone right now. She can't even remember all the ones she's created and disposed of that might be on the tablet.

She won the tablet in a contest. It's been sitting, not being used for a while but now she wants to put games on it for her kids. I will try the hard reset.

Second thought, after reading the hard reset, that is how we've been resetting it. I was hoping we can flash on a new OS that would take it back to default but it sounding like a new tablet for the grand kids may make a good Christmas...
by doing a hard reset, you tripped google's FRP. it is designed to prevent thieves from stealing phones (or when a phone is lost and then found by some stranger) and then hard reset so that they can sign in to their own account and use the phone., this prevents that. when frp is tripped you need the original account info in order to sign in and use the phone. even if you flashed a firmware update, you will still need the original account info.

Restoring Note 8 from Factory Reset - SD Card: 'ready to transfer media files'

I've no idea what "ready to transfer media files" means, I'm afraid.
You and me, both. I did click one entry and it restored a Samsung Note to the Notes app.
Are you hoping to recover some of the apps you "moved", or have you just reinstalled them all and are planning to "move" them again? It's not completely clear from your post which is the case, and I've never heard of App Manager III so don't know for sure what it does.
I have restored many apps from the Play Store and after many hours have an almost? completely functioning phone. Photos, apps, most notes, --things are looking good.
When I do open an app, I must log in like it was the first time, but that's not too bad.

But unless your phone is rooted I have to assume it's just using the Android 2 style "move to SD" function, and as that only moves part of the installed app if that is what it's done you'll almost certainly have to just reinstall from scratch anyway
not rooted. reinstalling apps, ;)
Stuff like documents, music, DCIM on the SD card can just be left there. If you want camera images stored on the SD card you may need to change the camera app settings to tell it to write there as it's not the default - unless some of your settings were saved to some cloud account ad hence restored when you logged in again.

Stuff in the "android" folder is specific to the particular apps (all that "com.whatever" stuff is the actual package names for various apps). Many of those folders will actually be empty anyway, for others, maybe just try reinstalling the app and see whether it finds them? I've not had a removable card since Android 5 so don't know for sure how this will behave - I have such folders in my internal storage instead. But if there is anything particularly important there (e.g. WhatsApp backup and media folders) maybe take a copy for security before doing anything.
Will do. This has re-convinced me of the importance of backups. The first layer will be a SmartSwitch backup once I can run it.
Thanks for your input.

Luggage tracker

I'll wait until an android-wide tracker is available. [...] If Google ever release something and integrate it with Find My Device then they'll have the biggest network of the lot.
Seems Cihpo has you covered, they have trackers which work with Google's "Find My Device" for pre-order. I contracted Cihpo support to make sure I understood the page properly, and here's what they had to say:
Yes, every compatible phone (almost all recent Android phones) will be a part of Google's [Find My Device] network. You will be able to get an updated location whenever the Chipolo Point tracker will get in range of a such device.
This link (my affiliate link), according to Chipolo, gives a 20% discount. Just make sure you order the Chipolo trackers for Google's network! They also make trackers for Apple's network, and their own network.
